This was largely an experimental shot, which only works when the sun is not shining. Here we see 182521 (front) and 189938 (rear) rounding the curve with a loaded intermodal freight heading south to Italy on the afternoon of the 6/5/17

Another spot for lineside photography - here we see Lokomotion locomotives 193772 (front) and 186442 (rear) round the curve on the outskirts of Matrei Am Brenner on the evening of the 2/5/17. For info, 151055 could be found on the rear powering for banking purposes.

In rather dull and wet conditions, we see RTC 189 918 head north through St Jodok on the afternoon of the 6/5/17. The weather was not very good on the day in question, so had to make the most of the climatic conditions. It was very busy with freight though.

All black double headed MRCE locomotives 193668 (front) and 189998 (rear) passed through Langkampfen on the afternoon of the 8/2/19 with a loaded intermodal heading towards Worgl and beyond.

Still loco-hauled (for now), here we see top and tail OBB Taurus locomotives 1116 054 (front) and 1116 194 (rear) both powering round the curve in Haus In Ennstal on the afternoon of the 22/2/25 with EC217 from Saarbrucken to Graz Hbf via Salzburg and Selzthal.

Here we see Lokomotion owned Vectron 193771 at Kufstein after working the 16:09 service from Munich. The loco is waiting to run round the stock. Taken during a brief period of sunshine

A brand new spot for lineside photography at the time of taking this image. Here we see ZSSK Skoda locomotive 350 008 working the 05:07 service from Kosice to Bratislava hl.n. on the morning of the 28/8/24. The train was captured passing through Nezbudská Lúčka-Strečno from the top of the local amusement park called "Panorama Park", which is a 15 minute walk from the local train station.

**For information, there is only small window of opportunity to capture trains from this vantage point in in the morning before the sun starts to move round - get there early and be prepared to stand on a very steep embankment, which can be tricky**

Here we see a "going away" shot of a pair SJ X2000 tilting trainsets working the 13:14 service from Goteborg Central to Stockholm Central on the bitterly cold afternoon of the 28/4/24. The power cars were 2027 (front trainset) and 2015 (rear trainset). The train was captured passing through Jonsered, Sweden.

Here we see 156497 working the 12:30 service from Leicester to Lincoln Central (2L89) on the afternoon of the 17/12/20, which was captured at East Midlands Parkway.

Passing in the nick of time for the failing sun, here we see Deh4/4 luggage van 23 working an additional Glacier Express on the afternoon of the 27/12/22. Concise details on the origin and destination of this Glacier Express are currently unknown - the train was not in the timetable.

On loan from DB Cargo, here we see 66061 lead sister DB Cargo locomotives 66098 (middle) and 66067 (rear) through Acton Bridge at teatime on the 7/8/20 with an Warrington Arpley to Basford Hall empty ballast train, which I believe ran as 6F50 (tbc)

Sporting its new "Backbone" livery, here we see DB Cargo locomotive 90039 heading south on the ECML through Colton Junction on the evening of the 7/8/21 with the returning 17:17 UK Railtours charter from Alnmouth to London Kings Cross, which ran as 1Z92.

This was the first time of snapping trains at this location, which had been on the to do list for a while, which was reached via a pleasant 8 mile cycle ride from York.

For info, 67006 was on the rear of this consist for ecs purposes.

Here we see 56081 leading a convoy of two barrier vehicles and 50049 on the rear. The 56/50 were due to haul a new unit from Derby, but it was not ready, therefore the 56/50 returned south to Wolverton with just the barrier vehicles.

The short train ran as 5Z27 from Chaddesden Sidings to Wolverton instead of the original working, which was captured passing through East Midlands Parkway.

On the morning of the 28/12/16, RhB railcars 51 and 52 were captured in a very very cold Ospizio Bernina working the 10:48 from St Moritz to Tirano service

OBB locomotive 1144 276 was captured passing through Fieberbrunn in Austria on the morning of the 9/2/20 working IC515 from Innsbruck to Graz.

With limited time available to capture loco-hauled trains on the RhB before they are replaced by units, this new location was visited.

Here we see RhB Ge4/4 locomotive 633 with the 11:41 service from Scoul-Tarasp to Disentis/Muster (RE1236), which was captured passing through Trun on the afternoon of the 10/2/22.

Here we see DB Cargo locomotive 60010 passing through Barrow-Upon-Trent on the chilly morning of the 17/3/21 with 6M57 from Lindsey Oil Refinery to Kingsbury Oil Sidings.

Lunchtime exercise treat at another new location with the pushbike. Here we see GBRF locomotives 73963 (front) and 73961 (rear) pass through Duffield at lunchtime on the 18/1/21 with the 13:16 Derby RTC to Crewe LNWR (1Q41) test train via the Northwest region including the Merseryrail network.

Please note, this shot was only possible due to the dull winter conditions. If the sun had been out, it would not have worked tat this location.

Here we see Ceske Drahy (CD) locomotive 242227 crossing Peace Viaduct in Dolni Loucky, Czech Republic on the morning of the 24/2/22 with the 10:34 service from Zdar nad Sazavout to Hustopece u Brna (Os4613)

EN : SBB Cargo’s Re 620 035 (ex Re 6/6, 10,600 hp, Bo’Bo’Bo’) leads unit oil train 66116 Cornaux – St-Triphon along the shore of Lake Geneva near Veytaux-Chillon. The 1,900-ton consist of tank cars carries fuel from the Cressier refinery near Cornaux (Canton of Neuchatel) to Tamoil’s distribution terminal near St-Triphon (Vaud).

The train is seen here between Veytaux-Chillon and Villeneuve. In the background stand the famous Château de Chillon and the A9 motorway viaduct, completing a classic Lake Geneva rail scene.

EN - North of Schwyz, the Gotthard line runs past the striking twin peaks of the Grosser and Kleiner Mythen. In the foreground, two classic Gotthard locomotives, Re 620 086 (ex Re 6/6 11686) in SBB Cargo livery and Re 620 018 (ex Re 6/6 11618) in red, double-head a northbound freight after crossing the famous alpine route.

The combination of twin locomotives and twin mountain summits is a reminder of the close link between Switzerland’s rugged landscapes and its powerful railway tradition.

For this shot, I went for a slightly wider angle to include the little red buildings on the right handside of the image, which are a typical feature of the Swedish landscape.

Here we see a going "away" shot of a pair of SJ High Speed Tilting trainsets being worked by power cars 2027 (front trainset) and 2025 (rear trainset) with the late running 14:24 service from Göteborg Central to Stockholm Central (train 438) on the bitterly cold afternoon of the 25/4/24. The train was captured on the outskirts of Hallsberg, Sweden during a brief sunny spell.

For information, I saw train 438 quite a few times during my visit to Sweden and it was often worked by a pair of X2000 high speed tilting trainsets.

Here we see OBB locomotive 1144 208 propelling REX1515 from Worgl to Salzburg on the afternoon of the 30/12/22.

** For info, shortly after this shot had been taken, the sun was lost to the mountains for the remainder of the day due to the time of year. Very limited daylight hours for this location during the winter months.

Here we see 90045 & 90048 with 90043 & 90042 DITL pass Sedgwick in Cumbria with 4M49 from Coatbridge to Basford Hall on the 16/7/17. It is very unusual to see 4 class 90s on this train - the rear two failed the day before and were heading back to Crewe for repairs.
