This was an experimental capture to see if there was a shot from this location at this time of day. Here we see RhB Allegra unit ABe8/12 no.3502 rounding the lake in Ospizio Bernina with the 15:40 from Tirano to St Moritz at teatime on the 28/8/17

Here we see FS Trenitalia power cars E414.xxx (front) and E414.xxx (rear) arrives into Mezzocorona for a short stop on the afternoon of the 20/2/25 with what I belive to have been IC611 from Bolzano to Bari Centrale. Unfortunately I was unable to ID the front and rear powercars of this IC train.

Freightliner Class 90 locomotive no.90041 was photographed just as the sun was rising on the cold and frosty morning of the 30/4/16 working the diverted Highland Sleeper 1M16 near Hixon between Stone and Colwich Junction on the morning of the 30/4/16. This train would normally have travelled from Crewe via Stafford, but the line was shut due to engineering work.

First time of trying this shot, so a bit of a trial and error as to where best to frame the train. Anyway, here we see 90044 lead class member 90045 just as a pet cloud arrived with the (SO) only working of 4M83 from Coatbridge to Basford Hall.

For info, this was a tricky train to capture due to the way it is pathed on the WCML south of Lockerbie. 4M83 passed Eden Loop 2hrs early, so one assumed it would keep running, but this was not the case, so the original location for snapping this train i.e. Cumbria would have worked due to being looped south of Tebay. It passed Euxton right time (not the planned location).

Virgin Trains Super Voyagers class 221/1 cross Dutton Viaduct over the River Weaver as the sun was falling behind me on the evening of the 31/3/16. The units were working 9S93 from Euston to Edinburgh via Birmingham

Freightliner intermodal locomotive 66548 was captured passing Lancaster Crossing in Stowmarket on the afternoon of the 20/4/19 with what I believe to have been 4L90 from Lawley Street to Felixstowe.

90044 leads 90043 DIT with the 10:35 Coatbridge to Basford Hall on the afternoon of the 27/9/14. Both 90s were expected to be powering, but I believe 90043 suffered technical issues at Beatock where it was delayed for 60mins. The loco's have been snapped passing Winwick Junction just as the sun went in for a few minutes.

Here we see 431 001 (V43.1001) working what I believe to have been the late running EC143 from Wien Hbf to Zahony and beyond on the hot afternoon of the 18/8/24.

Unfortunately, the sun was not quite on the nose for this fine workhorse, but as it was passing, it seemed rude not to take a record shot.

London City Airport DLR Station, London, England

This is a first visit for me to this station. Not the biggest station in the world but very symmetrical and its what I like :-). Had to wait a little while to get this shot as there were quite a few people slighting from the trains as they come into the station to go to the airport, I was quite surprised considering the size of City Airport.

I always really enjoy taking images of something new and fresh for myself so was well chuffed when I come across this station. I slightly desaturated the whole image in post production and added a little bit of green toning and then boosted the blues and yellows for the blue arches and yellow handrails. I think this would also look quite good in B&W conversion.

The only thing that has really annoyed me is in the white part of the glass canopy there seems to be quite a bit of noise. After closer inspection in LR4, its not on the original image that I have uploaded and seems to have appeared on Flickr so I put it down to the Flickr compression algorithms.

When I was at this station and waiting to go back into London I had a random thought on what percentage of the stations on the underground network I have visited. I feel although that I have taken many photos at them I bet the percentage is still quite small. I should do a project and pick one line and take an image at each station along the length of that line, that would be quite interesting.

Anyway, that was my random Monday thought. :-)

Information

London City Airport DLR station is a station on the Docklands Light Railway which serves the London City Airport. It opened on 2 December 2005. It is located on the King George V branch. Until the extension to Woolwich Arsenal, this station was the reason for this branch. It continues to be an important station on the DLR. Trains run westbound to Bank in the City of London and eastbound to Woolwich Arsenal. The station is in the London Borough of Newham and is located in Travelcard Zone 3.

The station (like many Docklands Light Railway stations) is elevated. It is also fully enclosed. There are two entrances to the station and the platforms are connected by escalators and lifts to an intermediate level with a direct link into the airport concourse. Main access to the station for local passengers and mobility impaired customers is by a lower level subway.

It has a direct covered connection with the adjacent airport terminal building. Although the station maintains the DLR philosophy of design, it makes concessions to cater for airport passengers, including a fully enclosed waiting room on the central island platform and, unusually for the DLR, a manned ticket office. There is a crossover west of the station which allows trains from Poplar and Woolwich Arsenal to reverse here during periods of disruption.

MCM BAX19 Constantí - Barcelona Can Tunis

Marienplatz U-Bahn Station, Munich, Germany

Back to Munich now, I have been sitting on this image for a while, when I first got on back on the computer I was not sure if I liked it or not but now I do. It seems to have grown on me, don't you find it odd that your perspective on certain images seem to change over time, sometimes for worse and sometimes for good. There are images I took a few years ago that I am not so keen on nowadays but when you do look back at your early stuff on Flickr or any image sharing facility it does show you your photographic journey. You often can see how your imaging editing styles change and composition techniques get better over time, would you agree? Have you seen this in your photographic progression?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Location Information

München Marienplatz is an important stop on the Munich S-Bahn and U-Bahn network, located under the square of the same name in Munich's city centre. The S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3, S4, S6, S7 and S8 intersect with the U-Bahn lines U3 and U6. The station is one of the most frequently used stations in the network, with up to 24,400 people transferring and 8,000 passengers entering or exiting each hour. In 2007, 175,400 used the station daily on weekdays, including entries, exits and transfers.

In October 1966 construction was started, finishing in October 1971 as part of the new S-Bahn network for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Until early 2003 there were almost no further refurbishments done at the station. From 2003 to 2006, the platforms of the U-Bahn were widened to expand passenger capacity and were lifted by 4 cm to secure same-level boarding.

Under the Zweite Stammstrecke ("Second main line") tunnel project, Marienplatz station is to be connected to a second station further north, Marienhof, via the enlarged subway access tunnels on the fourth level.
