Rapid strata formation in soft sand (field evidence).

Photo of strata formation in soft sand on a beach, created by tidal action of the sea.

Formed in a single, high tidal event. Stunning evidence which displays multiple strata/layers.

Why this is so important ....

It has long been assumed, ever since the 17th century, that layers/strata observed in sedimentary rocks were built up gradually, layer upon layer, over many years. It certainly seemed logical at the time, from just looking at rocks, that lower layers would always be older than the layers above them, i.e. that lower layers were always laid down first followed, in time, by successive layers on top.

This was assumed to be true and became known as the superposition principle.

It was also assumed that a layer comprising a different material from a previous layer, represented a change in environmental conditions/factors.

These changes in composition of layers or strata were considered to represent different, geological eras on a global scale, spanning millions of years. This formed the basis for the Geologic Column, which is used to date rocks and also fossils. The evolutionary, 'fossil record' was based on the vast ages and assumed geological eras of the Geologic Column.

There was also circular reasoning applied with the assumed age of 'index' fossils (based on evolutionary beliefs & preconceptions) used to date strata in the Geologic Column. Dating strata from the assumed age of (index) fossils is known as Biostratigraphy.

We now know that, although these assumptions seemed logical, they are not supported by the evidence.

At the time, the mechanics of stratification were not properly known or studied.

An additional factor was that this assumed superposition and uniformitarian model became essential, with the wide acceptance of Darwinism, for the long ages required for progressive microbes-to-human evolution. There was no incentive to question or challenge the superposition, uniformitarian model, because the presumed, fossil 'record' had become dependant on it, and any change in the accepted model would present devastating implications for Darwinism.

This had the unfortunate effect of linking the study of geology so closely to Darwinism, that any study independent of Darwinian considerations was effectively stymied. This link of geology with Darwinian preconceptions is known as biostratigraphy.

GEOLOGIC PRINCIPLES (established by Nicholas Steno in the 17th Century):

What Nicolas Steno believed about strata formation is the basis of the principle of Superposition and the principle of Original Horizontality.

dictionary.sensagent.com/Law_of_superposition/en-en/

“Assuming that all rocks and minerals had once been fluid, Nicolas Steno reasoned that rock strata were formed when particles in a fluid such as water fell to the bottom. This process would leave horizontal layers. Thus Steno's principle of original horizontality states that rock layers form in the horizontal position, and any deviations from this horizontal position are due to the rocks being disturbed later.”)

BEDDING PLANES.

'Bedding plane' describes the surface in between each stratum which are formed during sediment deposition.

science.jrank.org/pages/6533/Strata.html

“Strata form during sediment deposition, that is, the laying down of sediment. Meanwhile, if a change in current speed or sediment grain size occurs or perhaps the sediment supply is cut off, a bedding plane forms. Bedding planes are surfaces that separate one stratum from another. Bedding planes can also form when the upper part of a sediment layer is eroded away before the next episode of deposition. Strata separated by a bedding plane may have different grain sizes, grain compositions, or colours. Sometimes these other traits are better indicators of stratification as bedding planes may be very subtle.”

Several catastrophic events, flash floods, volcanic eruptions etc. have forced Darwinian, influenced geologists to admit to rapid stratification in some instances. However they claim it is a rare phenomenon, which they have known about for many years, and which does nothing to invalidate the Geologic Column, the fossil record, evolutionary timescale, or any of the old assumptions regarding strata formation, sedimentation and the superposition principle. They fail to face up to the fact that rapid stratification is not an extraordinary phenonemon, but rather the prevailing and normal mechanism of sedimentary deposition whenever and wherever there is moving, sediment-laden water. The experimental evidence demonstrates the mechanism and a mass of field evidence in normal (non-catastrophic) conditions shows it is a normal everyday occurrence.

It is clear from the experimental evidence that the usual process of stratification is - that strata are not formed by horizontal layers being laid on top of each other in succession, as was assumed. But by sediment being sorted in the flowing water and laid down diagonally in the direction of flow. See diagram:

www.flickr.com/photos/truth-in-science/39821536092/in/dat...

The field evidence (in the image) presented here - of rapid, simultaneous stratification refutes the Superposition Principle and the Principle of Lateral Continuity.

We now know, the Superposition Principle only applies on a rare occasion where sedimentary deposits are laid down in still water.

Superposition is required for the long evolutionary timescale, but the evidence shows it is not the general rule, as was once believed. Most sediment is laid down in moving water, where particle segregation is the general rule, resulting in the simultaneous deposition of strata/layers as shown in the photo.

See many other examples of rapid stratification (with geological features): www.flickr.com/photos/101536517@N06/sets/72157635944904973/

Rapid, simultaneous formation of layers/strata, through particle segregation in moving water, is so easily created it has even been described by sedimentologists (working on flume experiments) as a law ...

"Upon filling the tank with water and pouring in sediments, we immediately saw what was to become the rule: The sediments sorted themselves out in very clear layers. This became so common that by the end of two weeks, we jokingly referred to Andrew's law as "It's difficult not to make layers," and Clark's law as "It's easy to make layers." Later on, I proposed the "law" that liquefaction destroys layers, as much to my surprise as that was." Ian Juby, www.ianjuby.org/sedimentation/

The example in the photo is the result of normal, everyday tidal action in a single incident. Where the water current or movement is more turbulent, violent, or catastrophic, great depths (many metres) of stratified sediment can be laid down in a short time. Certainly not the many millions of years assumed by evolutionists.

The composition of strata formed in any deposition event. is related to whatever materials are in the sediment mix, not to any particular timescale. Whatever is in the mix will be automatically sorted into strata/layers. It could be sand, or other material added from mud slides, erosion of chalk deposits, coastal erosion, volcanic ash etc. Any organic material (potential fossils), alive or dead, engulfed by, or swept into, a turbulent sediment mix, will also be sorted and buried within the rapidly, forming layers.

Stratified, soft sand deposit. demonstrates the rapid, stratification principle.

Important, field evidence which supports the work of the eminent, sedimentologist Dr Guy Berthault MIAS - Member of the International Association of Sedimentologists.

(Dr Berthault's experiments (www.sedimentology.fr/)

And also the experimental work of Dr M.E. Clark (Professor Emeritus, U of Illinois @ Urbana), Andrew Rodenbeck and Dr. Henry Voss, (www.ianjuby.org/sedimentation/)

Location: Sandown, Isle of Wight. Formed 16/01/2018 This field evidence demonstrates that multiple strata in sedimentary deposits do not need millions of years to form and can be formed rapidly. This natural example confirms the principle demonstrated by the sedimentation experiments carried out by Dr Guy Berthault and other sedimentologists. It calls into question the standard, multi-million year dating of sedimentary rocks, and the dating of fossils by depth of burial or position in the strata.

Mulltiple strata/layers are evident in this example.

Dr Berthault's experiments (www.sedimentology.fr/) and other experiments (www.ianjuby.org/sedimentation/) and field studies of floods and volcanic action show that, rather than being formed by gradual, slow deposition of sucessive layers superimposed upon previous layers, with the strata or layers representing a particular timescale, particle segregation in moving water or airborne particles can form strata or layers very quickly, frequently, in a single event.

youtu.be/wFST2C32hMQ

youtu.be/SE8NtWvNBKI

And, most importantly, lower strata are not older than upper strata, they are the same age, having been created in the same sedimentary episode.

Such field studies confirm experiments which have shown that there is no longer any reason to conclude that strata/layers in sedimentary rocks relate to different geological eras and/or a multi-million year timescale. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PVnBaqqQw8&feature=share&amp.... they also show that the relative position of fossils in rocks is not indicative of an order of evolutionary succession. Obviously, the uniformitarian principle, on which the geologic column is based, can no longer be considered valid. And the multi-million, year dating of sedimentary rocks and fossils needs to be reassessed. Rapid deposition of stratified sediments also explains the enigma of polystrate fossils, i.e. large fossils that intersect several strata. In some cases, tree trunk fossils are found which intersect the strata of sedimentary rock up to forty feet in depth. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/08/Lycopsi... They must have been buried in stratified sediment in a short time (certainly not millions, thousands, or even hundreds of years), or they would have rotted away. youtu.be/vnzHU9VsliQ

In fact, the vast majority of fossils are found in good, intact condition, which is testament to their rapid burial. You don't get good fossils from gradual burial, because they would be damaged or destroyed by decay, predation or erosion. The existence of so many fossils in sedimentary rock on a global scale is stunning evidence for the rapid depostion of sedimentary rock as the general rule. It is obvious that all rock containing good intact fossils was formed from sediment laid down in a very short time, not millions, or even thousands of years.

Carbon dating of coal should not be possible if it is millions of years old, yet significant amounts of Carbon 14 have been detected in coal and other fossil material, which indicates that it is less than 50,000 years old. www.ldolphin.org/sewell/c14dating.html

www.grisda.org/origins/51006.htm

Evolutionists confidently cite multi-million year ages for rocks and fossils, but what most people don't realise is that no one actually knows the age of sedimentary rocks or the fossils found within them. So how are evolutionists so sure of the ages they so confidently quote? The astonishing thing is they aren't. Sedimentary rocks cannot be dated by radiometric methods*, and fossils can only be dated to less than 50,000 years with Carbon 14 dating. The method evolutionists use is based entirely on assumptions. Unbelievably, fossils are dated by the assumed age of rocks, and rocks are dated by the assumed age of fossils, that's right ... it is known as circular reasoning.

* Regarding the radiometric dating of igneous rocks, which is claimed to be relevant to the dating of sedimentary rocks, in an occasional instance there is an igneous intrusion associated with a sedimentary deposit -

Prof. Aubouin says in his Précis de Géologie: "Each radioactive element disintegrates in a characteristic and constant manner, which depends neither on the physical state (no variation with pressure or temperature or any other external constraint) nor on the chemical state (identical for an oxide or a phosphate)."

"Rocks form when magma crystallizes. Crystallisation depends on pressure and temperature, from which radioactivity is independent. So, there is no relationship between radioactivity and crystallisation.

Consequently, radioactivity doesn't date the formation of rocks. Moreover, daughter elements contained in rocks result mainly from radioactivity in magma where gravity separates the heavier parent element, from the lighter daughter element. Thus radiometric dating has no chronological signification." Dr. Guy Berthault www.sciencevsevolution.org/Berthault.htm

Melinda Crane, Moderator,Chief Political Correspondent, Deutsche Welle-TV asking Paul Romer, Professor of Economics, Stern School of Business at New York University, a question during the Plenary: Creating Liveable Cities in a Changing Urban Landscape, taking place during the 2014 Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum “Transport for a Changing World” on 22 May 2014 in Leipzig, Germany.

At a series of ten public town halls, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill answered questions from approximately 1,000 Missourians at forums in mid and northeast Missouri last week.

McCaskill held ten town hall forums in California, Tipton, Versailles, Elson, Ashland, Moberly, Macon, Monroe City, Paris, and Mexico.

“I’m a better Senator for hearing from Missourians face-to-face, and it’s their powerful voices I carry with me when I return to the Senate to fight on their behalf,” McCaskill said. “Holding town halls is one of the most important parts of my job, and it’s really an honor for me that hundreds of Missourians came out and had their voices heard.”

Along the way, McCaskill heard from Missourians of all ages and backgrounds, including a group of retired coal miners who thanked her for her fight to protect their pensions, a fellow cancer survivor, a combat veteran who discussed ways to improve health care, a farmer concerned about agriculture regulations, and a number of Missourians who asked for solutions to help heal partisan divisions.

McCaskill, who held eight town halls across the state earlier this year, has hosted in-person public town hall meetings in Missouri throughout her time in the U.S. Senate.

Public town halls with Missourians have been a hallmark of McCaskill’s time in the Senate, including her recent town hall tour across the state. During debate over the Affordable Care Act—at a time of heightened demonstrations against the law—McCaskill held a series of highly publicized town halls, including in traditionally conservative areas of Missouri, to hear directly from Missourians about their concerns and respond to criticisms. In 2014, McCaskill logged more than 1,000 miles around the state on her “McCaskill on Main Street” series of public town halls.

McCaskill has also toured the state with town halls aimed at military veterans and seniors—and has hosted individual town halls, such as one she hosted last year with then-U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack focused on the opioid epidemic.

Williamsburg - A William & Mary student asks Mark Warner a question at the Mason School of Business

The scam works like this:

A person, usually woman, begins corresponding with a stranger online. Let's call the first person Myrtle Crumpet. The stranger claims to be a "UN Doctor" or "UN Peacekeeper" from the USA (or Canada) and is working in Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen or some other hotspot. They have a very Western-sounding name: Dr. Michael Smith. Captain William Jones. Myrtle really likes Dr. Smith or Captain Jones - whatever. The pictures he shares show that he is very handsome. He's single, or divorced. He tells her that he's not allowed to use video chat, for security reasons, he can communicate only with text. He also can't make a video and share it with her for security reasons or because his camera is broken. He's being very brave wherever he is - he might even have started a little NGO on the side, to help local people outside of his job. But he's so lonely, and he tells Myrtle that her messages give him hope, and he may even say he's falling in love with her. But he needs a few thousand dollars to take an "emergency" vacation, because the UN is late with his paycheck and he can't pay the fee right now. Or he needs a few thousand dollars to help a very sick child, and there is a rich donor who is going to help, but that rich donor is just a bit tied up now. He asks Myrtle if she could wire the money - he will ABSOLUTELY pay it back. And he may even have a text message or voice-only conference call with her to marry her, and send her certifications that Dr. SMith or Captain Jones and Myrtle are now husband and wife, and he will fly to her SOON, just as soon as she sends that money!

But this man isn't real. He's a scammer. He is not a doctor nor a captain, he's not in Iraq or Syria or wherever he claims to be, he's not with the UN, and he and Myrtle are NOT married. He's spun this tale in order to get her to send him money - money she will never, ever see again.

Above is a screen capture of questions on Quora from people trying to find out if the person they are corresponding with that says he's a doctor in Syria or a UN Peace Keeper in Iraq is real. It shows just how pervasive this scam is. Also see my related photos - images sent to me by a woman in the Philippines who was almost taken in by such a scammer. She's in the Philippines. She found me on Quora, because I am constantly answering questions there to try to keep people from being taken in.

U.P. Breaking News: K. I. Sawyer Latest KC-135 Emergency Landing/Raising Safety Concerns

The following exclusive information was not reported yet by Upper Peninsula TV stations and other media.

Many safety questions remain and a military plane is officially grounded after an emergency in the skies over Marquette County, Michigan on Tues. July 8, 2014

The emergency landing of a KC-135 refueling tanker is the latest in a series of similar hydraulic incidents involving the aging fleet of Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing, Upper Peninsula Breaking News has learned.

Veteran Investigative Reporter Greg Peterson has the story:

upperpeninsulabreakingnews.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/u-p-b...

youtu.be/tocLjvEslBA

-----

Essentially a flying gas station – this Air National Guard KC-135 is grounded – following an emergency that has happened at least 5 times in the past two years to KC 135 refueling tankers from the 128th Air Refueling Wing in Milwaukee.

That's right – at least 5 times in the past two years – a KC-135 from the 128th has developed hydraulic problems resulting in emergency landings at airports around the Midwest.

The tankers are all about 50 years old.

In fact in June 2013, a reporter for Milwaukee Television station WISN TV-12 investigated a rash of KC-135 emergency landings after hydraulic warning.

Upper Peninsula Breaking News called the 128th's public affairs office to verify this important safety problem.

With overcast skies, the three-member crew of this KC-135 declared a hydraulic emergency:

Chief Don Hutchens, Forsyth Township Volunteer Fire Department:

Emergency officials from across Marquette County responded to the plane's call for help – fearing it might crash while landing – which would have been catastrophic.

The KC -135 was among several planes from the 128th Refueling Wing that have been practicing touch and goes on K.I. Sawyer's long runways.

Now the Marquette County Airport, the once vibrant K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base was a Strategic Air Command base – constantly on alert - with bomber crews ready to fly in moments.

This reporter has had the pleasure of riding on two KC-135 Refueling Tankers – as show in this photo when I worked at WLUC TV-6 in Marquette.

We refueled F-16 Jets over Lake Huron.

Then this reporter became one of only a handful of civilians to ride aboard a B-52 Bomber – this while I did features stories for the Mining Journal newspaper.

I was given this official coin of the Sawyer bomber wing and a patch – after as 12-hour flight that included Fourth of July Parades and an airshow in Grand Rapids.

This reporter hopes the officials at Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing get to the bottom of this hydraulic issues before there is a tragedy – as the large number of emergencies on this flying gas station is scary to all involved.

Military plane makes emergency landing in Indiana

www.wisn.com/news/south-east-wisconsin/milwaukee/Military...

A plane from Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard is grounded and undergoing repairs after an in-flight emergency Tuesday.

For the fourth time in two months a KC-135 from Milwaukee makes an emergency landing, this time in Indiana.

The flight crew lost control of the hydraulic system and made an emergency landing in Indiana.

It's the fourth in-flight emergency in recent weeks involving four KC-135 refueling tankers.

Each of the planes is about 50 years old, which has some wondering if the aging aircraft are as safe as they should be.

What Is Theosophy?

The Secrets of The Universe Laid Bare By The Accumulated Wisdom Of The Ages

The question “What is Theosophy?” must have risen to the lips of some thousands of persons during the last three or four years, if the world is anything like what it used to be, and it is only reasonable to suppose that in nearly as many instances as the question has been put the answer has not been forthcoming, or, at least, that no satisfactory solution has been proffered. From the vastness of the subject and its utter newness to Western minds this state of things is not very much to be wondered at, but apart from that, the extreme difficulty of giving anything approaching an intelligible explanation of the word to minds permeated with WEstern ideas and moulded by Western thought and associations is so great as to render the task well nigh hopeless. Theosophy was unknown to Western intelligence – except in the form of the wildest and most improbable narratives, and those of the most fragmentary character – till some 14 years since, when Madame H. P. Blavatsky, a Russian lady who had spent the greater part of her previous life picking up strange stores of still strangers knowledge among the speculative peoples of the far East, settled in New York, and commenced the diffusion of her ideas in regard to her occult knowledge. Her most active disciple was a Colonel Olcott, in conjunction with whom the Theosophical Society was formed for objects stated below. A singular fact came out in reference to this very singular organization not very long ago; it appears that Madame Blavatsky, the president-founder, is practically the Theosophical Society one and indivisible, for while the members may be expelled to any extent, the president-founder cannot be removed, the consequence being that notwithstanding the possible loss of every single member, the society can never suffer annihilation as long as Madame Blavatsky lives, the wishes of the rest of the organization to the contrary. Theosophy has apparently produced the first and only society which it is impossible to suppress or abolish. Madame Blavatsky is now located in London, where her teachings have been met with more amusement than reverence, but the president-founder appears proof against any amount of that kind of “argument,” and disposes of it as being of as little value as the wanton smoke-curls of the weed she loves so well. Among the orthodox and the indifference – who may be placed upon pretty much the same plane as far as honest inquiry is concerned – theosophy has made no convert, but in the ranks of the ever-increasing class of speculative thinkers who have been forced to abandon the old traditional creeds the “new” gospel has received a large number of earnest followers, perhaps the most noticeable being Mrs. Annie Besant, whose succession to theosophical ranks proves – if it proves anything – that there is “something in it” worthy of investigation. In America, where the cult has taken a firmer root, the theosophists claim Edison, the great electrician, as one of their disciples, and his certificate of membership is enrolled among the society’s archives.

The subject was laid before the Croydon Socratic Society on Tuesday night, at their usual meeting at West Croydon, by no less an authority than Mr. Herbert Burrows, who, in addition to being a highly-valued friend of the society and a fellow socialistic worker with Mrs. Besant, is also an enthusiastic theosophist and a brilliant young thinker in more than one branch. The Socratics are a more than ordinarily hard-headed body, but it was plain to see that on Tuesday evening there was a lack of sympathy with the subject that boded trouble ahead, as the sequel showed. Mr. Burrows first spoke of the difficulties of handling a subject which comprehended the concentrated knowledge of the East extending over a period of possibly 20,000 years in about forty minutes, and expressed the opinion that he was quite prepared to find at the concussion fo the lecture that his hearers only matter of doubt was as to whether he was a fool or a madman, or a combination of both. He then passed on the deal with the question in the way most suited to the assembly, namely, from it scientific aspect, and remarked that theosophy was utterly and entirely opposed to the Darwinian theory, and that it dealt with the more recondite forces and laws of nature in respect of which Western investigators were as ignorant as Newton’s child upon the seashore, aye, and more so, because, to speak figuratively, they had not even the knowledge to pick up the stones. Wisely keeping clear of the phenomenal portion of his subject – for theosophical wonder-working, even if it were possible to him, would be no more convincing of the truth of theosophy than the working of a material miracle was proof of any sort of moral truth – he explained in passing that theosophy claimed to be the underlying truth of which all the great and varied religious systems were but the exoteric side, and that the Theosophical Society had been founded to accomplish three objects, (1) To be the nucleus of a universal brotherhood; (2) To promote the study of Aryan and other Eastern literatures, religions, and sciences; and (3) To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the physical powers latent in man. Now, Western science failed to accomplish the latter object in some very essential particulars, and that principally because its investigations were conducted on imperfect lines, while theosophy, working upon an entirely different lines, not only agreed with the conclusions of the Western scientist, but could find a passage beyond the dead wall which blocked the path of all our scientists at a certain point, and beyond which wall no single Western investigator had yet been able to penetrate. What was the reason of this? Possibly because Western scientists started on too limited a basis. Personally he had long ago been led to the conclusion – from the study of Huxlye’s treaties on protoplasm forces, and from Professor Huxley’s own showing the material physical sciences of the body proved rather a barrier than an assistance to the study of the powers of nature. For example, when a note of music was struck it was accompanied by numbers of other miner sounds which it was impossible for the ear to distinguish because of its inherent of its inherent defects, while at the same time the existence of the minor notes had been demonstrated ad nauseam. A defect of this kind must prove an obstacle to true investigation because of its misleading results. If that were the case man practically knew nothing at all about the forces which were behind those of which we do know or fancy we know something. This naturally led to the conclusion that if our senses were only refined and acute enough it would be possible to perceive and understand the unseen forces of nature. On the other hand, the scientists of the West, everyone of them, however profound their investigations, were met at one point in their inquiries by a dead wall which they found it impossible to pass, in a very large class of phenomena, which they found to be absolutely inexplainable by their modern science.

Theosophy boasted that it could pass this wall by reason of the storehouse of actual mental knowledge, not mere theory only, which had been stored in the minds of a few men in India and of late years in Tibet, and handed on from one to the other for thousands of years. These men were investigators themselves, and they made a secret of their knowledge for obvious reasons, because by virtue of their knowledge there were few of the processes of nature that were secret to them; they asserted that they could explain phenomena whose solution was regarded as hopeless, and that simply and entirely by their knowledge of the laws of nature. In these things they owned no supernatural influences – there is no personal god in theosophy, which is purely pantheistic – but could give a rational explanation from the phenomena of nature, according to the laws of nature, though doubtless not according to the laws of Western scientists, and by this means they claimed to obtain a clue to both the spiritual and physical nature of man. The western scientist, up to a certain point, could state how certain phenomena were manifested, but the theosophist went further, and could tell why these things were. Science was absolutely unable to explain phenomena such as hypnotism, clairvoyance, and mesmerism to anything like an adequate extent and while he knew the majority of people dismissed these things as a result of trickery and fraud, they were nevertheless established facts, and rapidly establishing themselves as practical agents of surgical treatment. Apart from that theosophy could give a clear and adequate reason why for these things, and until people could give a better explanation it was both foolish and unphilosophic for people to deny that theosophy could do so.

Mr. Burrows then divided into an intensely interesting disquisition with regard to the numerous laws of nature whose existence and demonstration is known to our modern scientists, but which have entirely baffled them in their efforts to comprehend and tabulate the same. For instance, by means of a definite arrangement of a violin, a turning for, a strong light, and a sort of sheet suspended after the style of a “magic lantern” sheet, it was found that a note of music possesses distinct and unmistakable colours, which vary with different notes. Another instrument, the pendulagram, demonstrates that a musical note possess force. The apparatus is constructed upon vibrating principles, and is fitted with a universal-jointed pen. Upon a certain note being struck certain spiral curves are recorded by the pen. Strike another not, and a different class of spirals is produced; strike the first not again, and the spirals are produced similar to those registered on the first occasion. Now, why are these spiral? That is what theosophy alone can tell, and the man who has this knowledge can practically control the forces of nature! The materialist failed to surmount the wall that stopped him, and why? Partly because he failed to recognize that there was no rigid line of demarcation between the spiritual and the material part of man. Judging by the state of clairvoyance, when the physical material senses of man were in a certain sense paralysed, the intelligent, spiritual, mental faculties of man were sharpened. Man dealt in two worlds, the outward visible world, and the inward invisible world. The latter could only come into play when the other was deadened, or, in other words, purified and refined of the presence of the material outer world. Taking another line, he showed that the theosophist and the Western scientist, by widely differing methods, agreed, step by step, that under the whole nature lay some widely-diffused basic force, and that while the Western could only tell the relation between things – as in the molecular theory – the theosophist could explain the essence of the things themselves, or rather, could get behind the relation of the things and explain why they were so related. This method, produced to its natural conclusion, must lead up to the explanation of the spiritual nature of man, and thus theosophy was seen to comprehend the great truths that underlie all the great religions of the world.

At this stage the speaker left the relatively-scientific part of the question – which is at once its explanation and its raison d’eire – and passed on to deal with the teachings of theosophy, which is much more easy to follow. The very name is a clue, for “theosophy” (knowledge of or about God – the term God being universally accepted, not in the sense of a personal anthromorphic God, but as including the whole of both the known and the unknown) implies knowledge or wisdom respecting the absolute. It is sometimes also called the wisdom-religion because it professes to have had from time immemorial the knowledge of all the laws governing the spiritual, the moral, and the material. The reason why this knowledge has not been imparted to all is obvious – a man with such knowledge would have the lives and interests of his fellows who were not equally enlightened entirely at his disposal. The existence of three abnormal powers has been recognised, as a matter of fact, in plain, practical, prosy Germany, where stringent laws have already been passed against the exercise of hypnotic powers – such as those demonstrated by the Rev. Arthur Tooth at Woodside the other day – by unqualified persons. It is easily seen that if such laws are necessary to restrain the persons who do not fully comprehend the feeble powers they undoubtedly possess, the necessity would be vastly greater in the case of persons who have exhaustive knowledge of far greater powers. Hence in the interests of the race, the theosophists say, the knowledge is jealousy guarded in a few minds, although it is acquirable by anyone who will go through the long and tedious mental, physical, and spiritual training necessary to that end, for theosophists hold that the knowledge they possess can only be obtained by the careful refinement of the spiritual entity from the obscurations of the material physical, a process involving purity of word, thought, idea, and action. It is claimed that the theosophist has ascertained by actual experience that man, instead of consisting simply of body, soul, and spirit, is a septenary, or seven-partite being. The first division is the physical body, which acts as the vehicle for all the other principles; then there is the vital principle common to all animals; and the next is the astral, or the double or phantom body. Theosophists believe that the adept (a person who has attained to the higher knowledge) can separate his higher spiritual principle from the physical, and travel whither he will in the guise of the astral body, leaving the physical in a state of trance. The fourth, which forms the last of what is called the lower principles, is the seat of the animal desires and passions. Teh three higher principles consist (1) of the mind or intelligence (which has two aspects, one towards the lower and one towards the higher) ; (2) the spiritual soul, which forms the vehicle for (3) the spirit itself. Now, with regard to this “spirit” may be introduced one of the vital principles of theosophy. It is believed as an actual fact that the spirit in man is the only real and permanent part of his being, the rest of his nature being variously compounded, nad consequently always resolving into other compounds. The spirit of every man is said to spark fo the Divine Whole, whence it comes by cyclic or evolutionary procedure through every form of matter till it reaches its highest form – self-consciousness – in man. From the human enthrallment the spirit, according to its efforts while in that condition, passes at the death of the body towards the higher (i.e. towards re-absorption in the Divine Whole), or else downwards into the lower forms of matter, thence to “work out its own salvation,” or return to self-consciousness in the human. In its upward course the divine spark is u undergoing repeated incarnations through the vegetable, mineral, animal, and human states ; in each of these it is latent, but it is only manifest in man. The spirit retains its individuality during the whole progress from its origin to its reunion to the Divine, and exists successively in various races and planets.

The discussion that ensued beggars description from the fact that nearly everybody who spoke seemed to have failed to grasp the bearings of the subject. This was only natural under the circumstances – the explanation of a single page of a theosophical “educational” tract is sufficient to make a man’s hair curl if he has not been initiated – but the lecturer dealt lightly with his critics in his reply. The latter, by the way, did not commence till nearly 11 o’clock, and was principally devoted to the removal of misconceptions. From a quantity of propagandist leaflets – on of which (“Karma as a Cure for Trouble”) strangely reminded one of a patent medicine puff – it was seen that the practical side of theosophy is of no little importance from teh social point of view. One of the essentials to spiritual development is “the entire eradication of selfishness in all forms, and the cultivation of broad, generous sympathy in and effor for the good of others,” and another stipulates for “the careful performance of every duty belonging to one’s station in life, without desire for reward, leaving results for Divine law.” Apart from this, theosophy professes to explain the contrast and unisions of the world’s faiths and the common foundations underlying them all ; the existence of evil, suffering, and sorrow; social and individual inequalities, contrasts, and antithesis; accidents, misfortunes, and untimely deaths; the failure of conventional religions to greatly extend their areas, reform abuses, reorganize society, expand to the idea of brotherhood, abate discontent, diminish crime, elevate humanity, and adequately realise in individual lives the ideal they professedly uphold. These form only a small portion of the large order theosophists are ready to fill, but if they can only get believers in their strange tremendous system to go heartily in for spiritual development on the lines mentioned above, there are plenty of folks in this world who will be glad to find a place for them.

Tricks of the Mind | March 2013TRICKS OF THE MIND - March 2013

Hi,

A question we're often asked is what is Mind Magic? Mind Magic is using magic (of the conjuring variety) to create the illusion that you can read minds, influence people and demonstrate paranormal & extraordinary powers, e.g. ESP, moving objects with the power of your mind and predicting the future.

It is sometimes called mentalism, although we use the term Psychological Artistry, and has been shown to be popular in the programmes of Derren Brown and other magicians. The workshops we run not only reveal these often guarded tricks and secrets, but merge them with psychology and neuroscience so that we can use and apply these approaches in therapy, coaching, business etc. For more information on these workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/

All of our workshops, Sleight of Mind Set and The Fascination all use Mind Magic tricks, tools and techniques and Psychological Artistry. There is one overriding theme within them all; that is the Show Not Tell principle. The Show Not Tell principle is all about making people experience and feel the message rather than just be told. The Show Not Tell principle is about engaging through emotions, not just logic and reasoning. The intellect finds the logic to justify what the emotions have decided.

To see more information about The Fascination, please see mindsways.com/the-fascination. For more on Sleight of Mind Set workshops, please go to mindsways.com/SMS/ and for more about the Show Not Tell principle, please look at mindsways.com/SNT/

TRICKS OF THE MIND

The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of the tricks have on people. On the workshops and in the packs we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them and turn them into effects is where the real power lies.

Delivering these effects, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the minds of others. To see what other's have said about the workshops, please see mindsways.com/about/what-people-say/

To see a few interesting examples of how magic can be used in communication, please see mindsways.com/the-fascination# PsychologicalTED

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?

To start with there are many definitions of psychology, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think". Next is the Artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:

Creating connection, rapport and emotions

Telling stories

Gaining and holding attention

Producing insights

Displaying human nature

Cognition

Show, Not Tell

Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)

Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Psychological Artistry is where science and art meet Mind Magic.

Psychological Artistry is a route to form:

New Ideas

New Voices

New Questions

New Perspectives

New Expressions for our Passions

New Experiments

Expanded horizons

Emotional Engagement

Using Psychological Artistry is a way to express your personality, it:

Improves personal delivery

Increases your visibility

Enhances personal image and style

Powerful differential

Creates presence and raises profile

Increases perceptual awareness

Learning Psychological Artistry and Mind Magic is all about gaining access to valuable and guarded secrets.

Interesting examples of how all is not as it appears are the McGurk effect and Prof. Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect", a well-known Fred Astaire clip and Rory Sutherland's Perspective Is Everything talk. Please take a look here or go to mindsways.com/SMS. These illustrate both the power and the approach of Psychological Artistry. I would love to know what you think.

MINDFUL ILLUSIONS

Understanding how powerful a role illusions can play in our life is extremely important. We can get dragged into the illusion that we cannot change ourselves, and this can affect us very deeply. We have to keep in mind that these beliefs are based on neuro-pathways that have wired themselves together in our past, and though they may even dominate our thoughts now, brain plasticity means we do not have to have this in our future. To see more about this, please mindsways.com/SMS#InfiniteMind

The SNT kit, which you get included in the price for the Sleight of Mind Set workshop, clearly illustrates that this previous wiring does not have to equal the future. It clearly shows us that we cannot believe what we see, but we see what we believe. For more on the SNT kit, please see mindsways.com/SNT/

THE ART OF CRITICAL THINKING

Our mind is our greatest strength, but is also the root of many of our flaws and weaknesses. We are emotional beings and do not always follow logic and critical thinking. However, logic and critical thinking are learned skills that still play an important role in our lives. This is another benefit of learning about Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry, because logic and critical thinking are skills and abilities that can be deliberately practised and developed through Mind Magic.

We all have flaws in thinking, including;

Logical fallacies

False assumptions

Unreliable memories

Rule of thumbs thinking

Beliefs through illusions

These fallacies are all used and highlighted by magicians. Learning and understanding Mind Magic is about applying a rational and logical system to our emotional situation. It is this ability that allows you to demonstrate you value, engage people on a deeply interesting level and help others which dramatically increases with your understanding of Mindful Illusions, Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry.

About the archive:

The Nicholson Museum holds over 1800 glass-plate negatives taken by Woodhouse while in Greece in 1890s and early 1900s. A small portion of the archive also includes photographs of his family in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The collection documents important archaeological sites, significant landscapes of the Greek mainland, contemporary buildings and the people he met along the way. His archive is a rich resource capturing many sites pre-archaeological excavation and before modern industrial development. Some of the photographs were published by Woodhouse in his book 'Aetolia: its geography, topography, and antiquities' published in 1897. His desire to capture Greece on 'film', was simply put in his introduction: "History only attains its full value by borrowing actuality from geography and topography". The archive shows his love not only for the sites but also for the people and spirit of Greece.

About the project:

We are asking you to contribute to our documentation of this collection and assist us with the identification of the hundreds of different monuments and places in Greece. The title of each photograph will include the museum registration number (NM2007.##.##) and may already include a place name where museum staff or Woodhouse himself have titled the image.

All of our flikr contributors will be acknowledged when the collection is published through our online collections at the completion of the project.

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins Holds Second Town Hall Meeting to Address Police Shootings

(Dallas, TX – September 9, 2014) Officer-involved shootings and confrontations with police have been in the forefront of news reports across the nation and in North Texas – leading to criticism of law enforcement’s handling of these disconcerting cases.

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins aims to bring the community together to discuss solutions to improve the criminal justice system by hosting another town hall meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Friendship West Baptist Church, 2020 W. Wheatland Rd., Dallas, Texas. The nationally recognized pastor of FWBC, Frederick Haynes III, will moderate the town hall meeting. Pastor Haynes is currently involved in the coordinated effort to bridge the gap of distrust between Missouri residents and the Ferguson Police Department in light of the recent Mike Brown shooting.

As a result of the concerns surrounding the use of excessive force, we want the community to be confident that Dallas County is taking proactive measures. DA Watkins recently announced the creation of the first ever Civil Rights Unit at the Dallas County DA’s office to independently investigate police shootings and provide additional oversight.

“The plan right now is for one prosecutor and one investigator to go to the scene of any officer-involved shooting and conduct follow-up interviews with witnesses. The new Civil Rights Unit will help expedite the process of getting the case to an independent grand jury,” said DA Watkins.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown and Sheriff Lupe Valdez will once again co-host the town hall meeting to answer questions and discuss plans of action designed to prevent police misconduct. “The keys to public trust are transparency, honesty, and community engagement. We are committed to continuing our ongoing dialogue with the community to foster improved relations with the citizens that we serve,” said Chief Brown.

The National Bar Association and J. L. Turner Legal Association members will be present to provide additional information to ensure everyone knows their rights. The goal of the town hall meeting is to encourage positive interaction regarding policing, so citizens will respect the badge – rather than fear it.

Max: "...But, I mean, how does he carry all of those presents? His sleigh would have to be the size of an aircraft carrier!"

Benny: "Sigh...I don't know Max. Now let me work!"

Max: "And if it is the size of an aircraft carrier, how do just nine reindeer pull it? They must be really strong!"

Benny: "Maybe..."

Max: "And how does he travel all around the world in just one night?"

Benny: "I don't know! ....It's just...magic...ok?! Just magic. Now leave me alone!"

Max: "...Does he have like a time turner like Hermione Granger uses in Harry Potter? Because then he could always switch the time back and get to everyone's house in one night. ...But I didn't think time turners were real..."

Benny: "Will you just be quiet?!"

Max: "I mean, this whole 'Santa' thing is just really hard to believe. What if he's not real? Then I wouldn't have to worry about being good all the time! That would be great! ...But then, who gives me presents on Christmas day?"

Benny: "I DON'T KNOW! GO ASK YOUR MOTHER!"

Max: "Well, I did, but she told me to go ask you these questions."

Benny: "Sigh..."

Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Chairman, H.E. Festus Mogae, outlined the three defining questions that face South Sudan – Peace, Relief and Inclusivity

At the opening of JMEC’s plenary meeting on 15th March 17 in Juba, the Chairman said, “Whether by design or default, a war is being waged around this country and the security and humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.”

“How do we stop the fighting? How do we stop innocent people dying of starvation? And how do we ensure that the interests and concerns of all South Sudanese communities are fully represented and considered?

Regarding the new reports of and intense fighting between the government forces and the SPLA in Opposition in Fangak and the Equatoria, with worst incidents reported in and around Kajo-keji, the chairperson of the JMEC, Festus Mogae, said there must be “accountability for these violations.”

“It is not acceptable and I strongly condemn the violence, the killings, the human rights abuses and the destruction of homes by all armed groups across this country,” lamented Festus Mogae

“Those responsible must be held accountable,” he stressed.

USO provides a hearty meal for free

By Victoria Choi

USAG Humphreys Public Affairs

CAMP HUMPHREYS – Every other Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. until the food runs out, the United Services Organization, or USO, here provides a free program called “Lunchbox.”

This year, all USO free lunches are sponsored by the Exchange New Cars Sales and desserts are donated primarily by military spouses, like Michelle Sibinski, the wife of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael J. Sibinski, assigned to Company C, 302nd General Support Aviation Battalion. Michelle also works at the Camp Humphreys Commissary as a cashier.

“I have been in that situation when you don’t have anything and I just want to give back to my community what I have now,” she said. “This is a small community here, and pretty much everyone knows everybody, and, you know, doing these little things makes a big difference, especially, for those who are far away from home and family. Little closures like this help a lot and warm everybody’s heart.”

A group of volunteers led by Kap Brown, the USO duty manager, made all the preparations for the event and were serving a hearty meal for several dozen Soldiers.

“It is a lot of fun and it is very rewarding to give back,” said Rosie Majka, an Army wife who has been volunteering at the USO since last April.

The event has received very positive responses from Soldiers.

“I think it is a really great community outreach that USO is doing, and I know that the Soldiers definitely appreciate it,” said Staff Sgt. Brian R. Simon, assigned to 4-58th Airfield Operation Battalion.

The next USO Lunchbox is scheduled for Jan. 23. They will have hotdogs and desserts. For those who would like to donate something or have any questions, contact the USO at 753-6281.
