This is almost what I wanted. I think I can improve on it by making the individual pieces of the memorial clearer, and by more dramatically controlling the area of sharp focus. I did use front swing to try to match the plane of focus to the plane connecting the flag on the right with the star-wand on the left. But I might have fared better with a wider aperture (this was f/16), and perhaps even with some more unconventional movements.

One of my favorite places in all of the South to go visit is Savannah, GA. With each trip, I find myself concentrating more and more on the presence of those gorgeous live oaks so carefully preserved throughout it's downtown area.

One afternoon while Lauren was paying a visit to the Blick Art Materials, I took the 8x10 for an exploratory visit downtown. Every few blocks, there's a new square with it's own personality and stunning live oaks. Washington square was the easiest of them all to shoot, my best guess is because all the previous compositions had been made during lunch hour.

I finished shooting this scene but left the camera on the tripod while I looked around, trying to decide where to head next.. I noticed that little cloud had drifted over the sun at the last moment, scrambling to get another exposure before the sun came back out. I needed to switch to vertical to get it in but luckily the RB67 makes that as simple as it could be.

The overall softness here is not due to the lens - it's down to the fact that it was raining intermittently, and absurdly muggy, and my glasses kept fogging up, making fine focus something of an ordeal. In the end, though, I think it suits the subject.
