TESTS of KENTMERE 400 120 size in home-made PYROCAT HD Staining Developer . I rated film 320 ASA and gave 17 mins @ 20oC -- there seems to be a High FOG LEVEL in the rebates . I CUT the film so next test will be with my 510-Pyro formula. I was LUCKY we had some SUNSHINE at LAST to test the Contrast. CAMERA was ROLLEIFLEX T with 16-on kit 1/250th @ f6.3 with x2 Yellow Filter - did not do anything to photo!
Photographed December 2018 / Ricoh 500 35mm rangefinder camera with RIKEN RICOMAT 4.5cm/2.8 lens. Film was Kentmere 400 metered ASA 200 developed in PYROCAT-HD sodium carbonate version (5ml A + 10ml B > 600ml , 7min, 20*C). Negative was digitalised via a Pentax k3 DSLR and a Schneider Componon-S 80mm/4 enlarging lens on adjustable helicoid extension tubes. The image was edited on an iPad mini using the Snap Seed application.

I tried to lighten up my old back's load by bringing a medium duty carbon fiber tripod on this trip. There was a little bit of wind on the canyon rim, and if you pixel peep the original full size scans of these Bryce Canyon images, it's apparent they are NOT sharp. So next time it's my heavy tripod, or I spring for an expensive heavy duty carbon one. Sigh...

I needed a quick test roll for the newly acquired Nikon F5 to test the transport and metering and grabbed an old roll of Rollei Retro 400S. I never took to the film although as usual many praise it. What I forgot was it was not iso400 in my testing. Various sources have it as Agfa Aviphot Pan400S or more likely the 200 version but perhaps it has aged in storage and slowed. Whatever it didn't do well in the Pyrocat HD but then again that is due to retire, the small amount, never a good thing, left in the 1L A bottle, so the combination produced "interesting" results, the fixer is end of life care as well so this weekend is sorted mixing new chemicals.

Photographed November 2018 / KW Praktiflex 35mm SLR (2nd generation with M40 lens mount) & Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 5cm/3.5 🔺T lens. Film was KENTMERE 400 metered ASA 200 developed in PYROCAT-HD (5ml A + 25ml B > 600ml, 7min @ 20*C). Negative scanned in a JUMBL scanner box unit; image processed and finished in Flickr. Cropped to 16:9 aspect. Notice how this little Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 5cm/3.5 lens (late 1940's) 'draws' or renders the image; the optical engineers at Zeiss were getting it right.
Last week I acquired a Kodak Special Six-20 6x9 folder, with the Anastigmat Special lens. I'd been looking for a decent one for awhile (most have bellows like a sieve) and this one seemed like a decent candidate for restoration. (This is the camera: flic.kr/p/2mHW4G3)
This roll of test film was Tri-X 400, exposed at just under 200 ASA. The exposure here was 4 seconds at f11. The film was processed in Pyrocat HD.
The negatives are acceptable for an 80 year old folder of this caliber, but not as sharp as what my Medalist II produces. Still, its a perfectly usable camera.
Addendum: Today - 24 hours after making this photo - I can no longer access this part of the riverbank, as its under water. Probably be inaccessible until next May or June now.

For the first time I shot doubles of the latest images, processing the second of the two sheets for a longer time. I'm getting the ducks in the row to start alternative process printing shortly - both Cyanotypes and Argyrotypes. Should be fun!
