Locomotive in the roundhouse at the Steamtown National Historic Site in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania. We were in Scranton for the day during our summer holiday. It was raining and I could not take all the shots I would have wanted to but the upside is that it created a puddle into which this locomotive is reflected. That goes to show that every cloud has a siver lining!

Locomotive dans la rotonde au Steamtown National Historic Site, à Scranton, Pennsylvanie

Illinois Central No. 790 is a preserved steam locomotive, the only Illinois Central Railroad 2-8-0 Consolidation type of its class to survive into the diesel age of train transportation. It is part of the Steamtown National Historic Site collection in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The Steamtown National Historic Site is a railroad museum and heritage railroad located on 62.48 acres (25.3 ha) at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W). The museum is built around a working turntable and a roundhouse that are largely replications of the original DL&W facilities. The site also features several original outbuildings dated between 1899 and 1902. The roundhouse was reconstructed from remnants of the 1932 facility.

A roundhouse is a building used by railroads for servicing locomotives. Roundhouses are large, circular or semicircular structures that were traditionally located surrounding or adjacent to turntables. The defining feature of the traditional roundhouse was the turntable, which facilitates access when the building is used for repair facilities or for storage of steam locomotives.

Early steam locomotives normally travelled forwards only; although reverse operations capabilities were soon built into locomotive mechanisms, the controls were normally optimized for forward travel, and the locomotives often could not operate as well in reverse. A turntable allowed a locomotive or other rolling stock to be turned around for the return journey.

Typical Amsterdam houses on the Rokin, reflected in a puddle...looks a bit as if the crust of the earth ends here and Middle earth starts, be careful, mind the gap :))

As usual, no Photoshop, simply a wicked reflection taken with my funkycool, stone-age old S700i mobile phone cam :)

Tourists on rented bikes, reflected in a puddle...

As you can see, these tourists look irritated, not because they saw me hunched over a puddle, snapping some wicked reflection shots (ok, maybe a little bit), but rather because they came to the best city in the world, assuming that they could have a wild time here with Sex, Drugs&Rock'n'Roll, only to find out that our government (well, the glorious local chapter of the Right-wing-religious-nutcases in charge) has outlawed anything that might have attracted visitors to Amsterdam in the past.

Even though we do still have some Coffeeshops and a (much smaller) Red-Light-District, you can't buy Magic Mushrooms anymore, you can't smoke a cigarette anywhere, can't drink a beer with your joint and by decision of the major all big dance events must be 100% drug-free...hell, you are not even allowed to stand up if you are drinking a beer on the terrace of a bar...no kidding!

I know it is our own fault, because even though everybody is complaining about the fact that our great leaders have put the bible back into almost every aspect of daily life, when the next election comes up, everybody will vote for Mr. Harry Potter&his gang of whacky weirdos again, for some reason I fail to understand, but I guess that's just me being an idiot :D

Oh yeah, to make up for all these losses, we've turned to killing people across the planet for fun...and they've called Tony Blair the lap dog of G.W. Bush!

Come and visit us before Amsterdam has finished becoming a boring small village that has nothing to offer that you can't find in your own hometown, hurry, they're working fast on the deconstruction of the mystical free city as you might know it from the tales of your forefathers&mothers ;-))

P.s. If I sound bitter, it's probably from all those hours of smoking&drinking in the cold wind outside of all those cool places where me&my friends used to have such good times in ye olde Amsterdam, I'll go and read the bible now, maybe I'll feel better then, haha :D

Biker in front of the 'Mozes en Aäronkerk' Church at the Waterlooplein in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle.

The church is one of my favorite buildings in the best city in the world, here are some previous shots: #1 and #2...

In case you were wondering what the title of this shot is about, let me explain...

I must have suffered from an outburst of social connectivity, inflicted upon my wicked self by those 3 loooong weeks of winter vacation that I've been enjoying (today is the last day...noooooooo!), or I just got bored, because I've joined all those famous social networking sites, add me as a contact, you know you want to :))

Check me out on the ever-so-famous Myspace, make me one of your Friensters, get chatty on Twitter, blog with me on Blogger or simply Facebook me :))

So go and waste your Sunday adding me to your friend lists, thanks :))

The world's biggest TV on the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle...

As you might know, the Dutch have a special relationship with their TV's, all movies are shown in their original language with Dutch subtitles, this enables the inhabitants of the best country in the world to learn foreign languages while chilling out on the couch :)

Usually, watching TV makes your brain go into some kind of 'Flat-line-mode' and facilitates a level of addiction that is comparable to Heroin, but not in Holland, here you'll learn something while watching the telly, if you like it or not, so if you enjoy being lazy while keeping your head trained&improved, you know what to do :)

It could be that our cerebral lobes are already so stuffed to the brim with all those legal drugs that you can (still) buy in the Netherlands, that some secret government agency has decided that they'll use untranslated TV to help us regain a level of consciousness/brain activity that'll allow us to at least support the local economy, through hard labor and excessive consumption (in several languages), even when our gray matter is mostly turned off ;-D

Here's Spearheads opinion about TV!

Before it became Cain Park, the ravine between Taylor and Lee roads was merely a wet, overgrown gully visited by only the most adventurous of hikers. In 1914, the Central Improvement Association of Cleveland Heights (then still a village) formed a committee to look into the possibility of turning the Dugway Brook ravine into a more formal public park. It was not until the 1930s, however, that Cain Park began to take shape. ~ clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/193

Father, daughter (or a kidnapped child) and buildings, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam.

Yet again a title that seems totally unrelated to the actual picture...but this time I have some kind of explanation, at least ;-))

In my humble opinion, the dad has a certain bohemian appearance, he could be some kind of poet that is rushing to his favorite Poetry-Slam bar as soon as he's dropped the girl off at the local Sweatshop Ballet lessons ;-D

Please excuse the blurriness of this shot, I just liked the faces too much not to post it!

P.s. Of course, as usual, no Photoshop or tricks, just a puddle, a mobile and a wicked Reflectah in the best city in the world :)

Thanks God it's Friday, have a great start into the weekend!!!

Puddle reflection of a Ferris wheel in the Westerpark in Amsterdam. I've added a bit of contrast, for the rest it's an unedited mobile shot...actually, I'm not even sure if I added contrast, I've checked the original shot and it looks pretty much identical...maybe the smart people among you can find out by looking at the pictures properties or something, I wouldn't know what to look for :)

Do you know Ferris Bueller?! You should, he could save your life one day ;-)

"Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. " Ferris Bueller

"Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people."

Ferris again!

A church in a foreign country, reflected in a puddle...

Me& a couple of million of Dutch people went to a foreign, neighboring country with a slightly different approach towards Christmas last weekend and it was very nice, lots of food that you can't buy in the Netherlands and tons of new smells, sights&sounds (well, the sounds not so much, Dutch was spoken almost anywhere in the streets, it almost felt like being at home far away from the best city in the world) :))

Water puddle reflection:

I couldn't resist taking this shot. The many different lines and textures made it an easy decision. The colors were just the icing on the cake.

went over to the lakefront this morning to grab some sunrise shots and the the soft golden tones during sun up didn't disappoint...there was no explosion of colors of any sort but the golden tones were really beautiful this morning...i scoured the length of this part of the lakefront for puddles, from Oak Street Beach to North Avenue Beach and i only found 2 and this puddle was the better of the duo...set my timer on delay and placed the camera on the ground right by this puddle and hoped for the best...more sunrise shots to come and some early morning blue hour shots from Kinzie Street Bridge as well...pls. Amsterdam downtown shoppers and buildings, reflected in a puddle.

People regularly stare at me when I do my wicked reflection thing, they just can't figure out why a handsome young man like myself (hehe ;) would sit next to a puddle and behave like a madman, while I could be out there, supporting the local economy with spontaneous outbursts of consumer-lust...in all fairness to myself, I have to add that just a few days after this shot was taken, I went out and bought 2 pairs of supersexy Levi's pants and some sneaky cool Adidas :))

Almost weekend!

These two passerbys initially waited until I took the picture. However they were intrigued to what I was messing around a puddle. We got chatting about what I was aiming to do and soon they wanted to be in the picture. Therefore they let me take the photograph as they moved across the view of the University of Birmingham buildings.

Typical Amsterdam Houses reflected in a Puddle

I came across this puddle about 20 minutes after watching a video on Street Photography on the Creative Live site. The photographer was in Seattle and he did a couple of these types of shots. It was fun to come across a puddle so soon after seeing that video.

Typical Amsterdam building&bikes, reflected in a puddle, saturation&colors edited a bit with ThumbsPlus, but no Photoshop and other tricks, just another natural, wicked reflection of the best city in the world :)

Even though this looks like a relaxed moment, check out the poor dude holding up the balcony, that's a shitty job if I've ever seen one...and I bet it doesn't even pay that well, hahaha ;D

Puddle reflection of the Royal Palace and the 'Nieuwe Kerk' church in Amsterdam...

Royal families and the various churches have been connected and involved in many questionable activities throughout the centuries, and I like it that it looks like they're both sinking into the puddle, serves you right, you evil people ;-))

Typical Amsterdam houses reflected in a puddle. This is a twin shot of one of my first wicked reflections ever, taken almost 2 years ago, and at the same time one of my most successful pictures so far, it was printed in the local magazine NL20 together with an interview with yours truly :))

I was really lucky yesterday, in between the hail&snow showers the sun kept poppin' up, allowing me to capture some of my favorite Amsterdam spots with my real cam, lucky me :)

Just some Buildings reflected in a Puddle in Amsterdam

My favourite kind of weather - when the sun comes out after the rain - great for puddle reflections! This caught my eye on the way to work this morning - St Mary Aldermary church reflected in lots of mini puddles on the pavement. Got a couple of reflection shots up on the highwalk too :)

Busy day at work, with an initially very frustrating then very constructive meeting this afternoon. Quite a busy evening too, cooking dinner, taking in an Ocado delivery and attempting to catch up on my photos (as ever).

Try to figure out which Side is the Reflection ;-)

Tram, biker and buildings, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam.

This biker seems to run/bike away from something, maybe it's just Me&Mobie, or maybe it's the Mob...or not! I think I am reading too much into his body language, which seems a bit flight'ish to me ;-)

Are you aware that 'Fight or Flight' is one of the main principles your brain operates on?! Wicked!!

I've created a shirt with this picture, yay :))

12/10/12 Oxford - puddle reflection.

decided to play around with some HDR processing on some old shots...this frame i originally posted some time ago and really loved the cloud coverage and the puddle reflections, so when i HDR'd this one, i decided to play with the sliders a bit more than usual and came up with this one...i tend to lean towards a more natural looking HDR with my images but this one i think came out a bit cool...pls.
