Did you know, although legend has it that Mrs. O’Leary’s cow started the Great Chicago fire of 1871, one of America’s biggest infernos, historians doubt it happened that way - or at least that Mr.s O’Leary was involved? The fire most certainly started near the O’Leary’s barn, but drought, high winds & lots of wooden buildings made conditions right for a fire. Anti-Irish sentiment was high, so an Irish scapegoat was welcome to be blamed for the 300-some deaths, and 100,000 + left homeless. Years later, a reporter admitted to making up the story. The Chicago City Council officially exonerated Mrs. O’Leary in 1997.

The CPKC Holiday Train arrives at Union Station in Kansas City, MO, it's fifth visit to town overall and third since the merger with KCS. Operating as CPKC train 02H, they'll pull past Penn Ave Interlocking on Main Track 4 of the KCT East-West Corridor and then shove into Exhibition Track 28, preparing for concerts by Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde beginning at 1800.
The train arrived in Kansas City the evening before Thanksgiving, and this day, they're operating from CPKC Knoche Yard to KCUS, returning back to Knoche via a complete loop around downtown promptly after concerts. They'll continue south down the former Haywire before sunrise tomorrow.
This boxcar features a lighted mural paying homage to "Rudy", part of the now retired Kansas City Southern Railway Holiday Express, which lasted for 23 years beginning in 2001. 11/28/25.

Nonostante le mutilazioni e i ritocchi che nel corso dell’Ottocento ne hanno modificato significativamente l’aspetto, l’opera è certamente una delle più misteriose e suggestive della Pinacoteca, fonte di inesauribile fascino per la profusione di elementi decorativi e per la compiaciuta esibizione di scorci illusionistici con cui Crivelli impreziosisce l’intera composizione, senza peraltro dare vita a uno spazio credibile e prospetticamente misurato: una ineguagliabile testimonianza dell’originalità con cui Crivelli rielabora i principi cardine del Rinascimento centroitaliano.
La Madonna, dall’ovale innaturalmente perfetto e dalle lunghissime mani sofisticate, offre al Bambino una pera che forse simboleggia la dolcezza della Redenzione. Le due figure sono sotto una pergola costruita con rami intrecciati dove stanno frutti allusivi alla Passione e morte di Gesù. La candela, fermata sul gradino da una goccia di cera, il vaso di fiori e i frutti sul gradino sono immaginati come offerti da chi osserva, che in questo modo è coinvolto nello spazio dipinto.
The panel came to Brera from the cathedral of San Domenico at Camerino together with a significant group of works: the panel with Saints Ansovinus and Jerome, not recognized at the time as part of the same polyptych and ceded to the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the Camerino Triptych and the Crucifixion, long thought to belong to the same decorative complex.
According to the most recent hypothesis, the Madonna della Candeletta was originally the central compartment of a polyptych with two rows of panels, commissioned in 1488 for the high altar of Camerino Cathedral by the chaplain Bartolomeo di Angelo Consuli and probably damaged by the devastating earthquake that destroyed the cathedral in 1799.
In spite of the mutilations and retouches that significantly modified its appearance over the course of the 19th century, the work is certainly one of the most mysterious and evocative in the Pinacoteca, a source of inexhaustible fascination owing to the profusion of decorative elements and the somewhat self-satisfied display of illusionistic foreshortenings with which Crivelli embellishes the entire composition, but without creating a credible and measurable space in perspective: a matchless example of the originality with which Crivelli reworked the cardinal principles of the Central Italian Renaissance.
The Madonna, her face an oval of unnatural perfection and her slender hands a model of sophistication, offers the Christ Child a pear, possibly symbolising the sweetness of Redemption. The two figures are set beneath a trellis of woven branches whose fruit alludes to Christ’s Passion and death. The candle, held on the step by a drop of wax, and the vase of flowers and fruit on the step are intended to look like offerings from the observer, who is thus prompted to interact more closely with the painted space.
