Sketching Stuff Challenge: Sketch a Dream Trip.
Did you know Egyptian blue is considered the first synthetically produced color, created around the same time the Great Pyramids were built? I like to imagine how magical it must have seemed then, a color literally invented by human hands. My painting for this challenge is an imaginary journey to an ancient blue pyramid where Egyptian magicians practiced their mysterious arts inside their shimmering, secret structure—still standing today, of course, just cleverly hidden away.
For The Sketching Stuff challenge this month Charlie O’Shields’ uses an exercise from his book, ‘Sketching Stuff Creative Activity Book – Create Like a Kid Again!’ Instead of guiding us through a specific painting process, he focuses on the six “creative superpowers” introduced in the book and how they can help you paint a place—whether it’s somewhere real or entirely imagined.
I’m also working on a review of the Lightwish Binder Travel Set with a Ceramic Mixing Area and took the opportunity to play around with the paper while dreaming up this little adventure.

Not sure what prompted me to do this one, maybe the Level 5 water restrictions we now have? Possibly some photos I was looking at the other day. Anyhoo, it came to me as I was going to bed and I just had to work on it the next day.

Remembering water aplenty, before the earth turned dry and the disappearing green mask revealed the red dust below. The background is a piece of embroidery canvas painted by hand (quite literally, I used my hands rather than a brush!) with felt and buttons stitched on top. I don't actually like the red frame, but until I find a darker colour this is it...

Someone mentioned below about the greenery in our garden, despite the restrictions. We made a decision 2yrs ago to stop watering and simply let everything die that required water. We lost a lot of plants, but the ones that are drought tolerant survived, and so we still have a lovely garden. The lawn is another story! Its a great big dustbowl!
The people I feel sorry for are those who make their living out of the land. Naturally the farmers who have been doing it tough for so many years, but also the people who mow lawns, plant nurseries, gardeners, turf layers. They are all having to find work elsewhere to supplement. Its amazing how much we all rely on water...

Nimbus II
My entry into Eurobricks' May 4th contest in the ‘Imperial Ship’ category.
I’ve wanted to build one of ECHenry’s designs for some time and the build prompt from the contest provided the perfect excuse! Likewise, I often lurk among these forums so this contest provided the impetus to finally sign up.
This MOC is based on ECHenry's idea for a fighter called the Nimbus II: a ship that bridges the design between the Republic Nimbus-class V-wing and the Imperial TIE fighter. EC Henry writes:
“This fighter was the successor to the Nimbus-class V-wing. Most notably, the Nimbus II lacked the shield projector nose of the earlier V-wing. This left the Nimbus II almost completely unshielded, but it significantly improved speed, maneuverability, and power efficiency. The Nimbus II would be a common sight for the first several years of Imperial rule, before it was largely replaced by the more robust and more maintenance-friendly TIE fighter.”
As soon as I got my hands on the new Pagani windscreen elements, I wanted to give this cockpit combo a try. It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine how this design might later morph into that of the iconic TIE fighter.
There are a few details that I’m rather pleased with: the little greebles in the engines which are I think I made pretty accurate to EC Henry’s original design, as well as the wings which have the black panels reminiscent of the TIE solar panels on one side and flat grey on the other.
Finally, I squeezed a little functionality into the model: turning the gear between the thrusters at the back of the craft will rotate the wings into flight or landing position. Luckily, there’s just enough friction in the mechanism to keep the wings vertical when they need to be.
