This week’s theme, Broken, was a fun prompt and one that had me out exploring old and new places. I ended up choosing a photo that is from a place i’ve explored for years and one that I have photographed many times, all in different ways.

This “broken” greenhouse is in my neighbors yard and was built in the early 1900’s along with the garden surrounding it. The garden and obviously the greenhouse started to crumble years ago until my neighbor invested the money into restoring it. They left the greenhouse as is for a reason unknown to me. Even though its broken down, falling apart, and filled with glass from when it was in use, I love the way the ivy has taken over and the rust has begun to discolor it. Part of me wishes it had been restored, but the other part loves to look at it and think about what it was like in use. Not to mention its one of my favorite places to take pictures.

I am afraid this task has been planned for the wrong week.

Spring flourishing has already gone, you missed the spot covered with white and pink flowers of peach, cherry and prune trees.

We also had cloudy weather here this week.

What a pity!

Low on time and good weather this week. My attempt at a pattern shot with a cheese grater and macro lens.

Lighthouses, a symbol for moving forward and navigating our way through rough waters. I happened to be in the perfect spot to photograph this week's project 52, Nantucket.

I was not very inspired by this week theme... however this is one of my favourite city square in the area.

Looks like its right there! Where is my ghost writer to write a good description?? :-)

This was taken somewhere near Palm Beach North of Sydney. We were heading back to Sydney and the sun was setting so I jumped out and took a few photos.

In other news we got our daughter a Canon 1100D, so hopefully she starts taking some good photos!

This is photo #11 in my Project 52

A quick catch up photo this week with a macro lens and some 100s and 1000s. Slight level adjustment in Ps.

She always has such a tough time closing those peepers. Her big sister on the other hand is in dreamland in minutes, atop her giant pile of pillows. :)

Edited with PTM creamy soy latte and cotton candy.

Taken at the Winchester Fireworks display tonight.

When I downloaded this from my camera I was amazed that the exposure time on this one was 3.2 seconds. I was shooting hand-held!!!

Weak link to this weeks theme of Skies. Well you do throw them in to the sky so I think it should count :-)

DDCC Project52 2014

This is my first attempt at Lego photography, thank you to my nephew for the figures and models.

I captured this picture "from the hip" looking into my living from my bedroom. I love layering and framing my subjects and this time, though not purposeful, I used my finger to do so.

This week is supposed to be a self portrait theme. Decided to take my specs instead as the self shots made me look more like a serial killer. I now have the upmost respect for those Flickrites who do this day in day out!

HMBT! (will be catching up later)

This week's picture sorta sums up the past week. Caught the worst flu ever and spent literally 5 whole days on the sofa! Felt like death...actually wanted to die at one stage! Melodramatic I know, but it was that bad!!! :P :D lol

Anyway, I'm determined never to get this sick again! No skimping on my yearly flu jabs from now on and eating well, sleeping well and exercising without fail!

[Event] On the local news they informed us that the sun had a small flare explosion and the flare would travel and interfere with our atmosphere on Tuesday, Aug. 3 night. This could then possibly bring out some of the northern lights (which it never did.. but it did farther north in Canada).

Well staying out late that night, we had few clouds, yet there seemed to be cloud lightning flashes every few minutes that night through 1am. No northern lights, but I did try getting some star trails. With low battery (whoops) I knew I only had a few shots. This photo was 3 stacked @ 5 minutes with 100 ISO (to keep the noise lesser then a single 15 minute exposure). Since I had it on auto balance, I made sure the color temp in post-process matched then added a Cooling Filter (80). As you can see, I let about 20 seconds pass between each shot to view the image. This caused those slight gaps between the star trails (top right)

(she's actually wearing a paper airplane charm like in the music video)

It has been about 3 years so thought I would revisit something I used to love doing! Bit rusty with the first few shots especially with my 'whatever I could find around the house' set up.

Each shot is so different and you can make out some pretty cool things in the smoke!

Visiting Legoland, we were invited to make a 'cake' for the park's dragon mascot, Ollie, celebrating the park's 20th birthday.

I'm Lucy and currently I live in Berlin. I love photography, but I run when I see a camera pointed at me. Or hide. Even if the one who pointed it is myself. I've never done a project like this, and I hope it will help me improve and keep myself organized.

My resolution this year is to seriously invest more time photographing my family and friends. I slacked way too much in that area last year; life's special moments are way too precious not to capture!

When I saw the theme list for Project 52 I thought the chances of seeing a rainbow during the week I was supposed to take one were pretty slim! But one month into the year I was driving home and saw this one in a particularly unphotogenic section of countryside, took it and the picture has sat on my computer desktop waiting for posting. The light was terrible so the only way I could think to bring out the rainbow was to apply some rather cliched selective colouring!

(Sorry my posts are kind of delayed! Been super busy with school. Well, on a brighter note, it's summer! So it's time to catch up on my Project 52!!!)

Taken at Aklan, Boracay.

steveston@nite

The neighbourhood I live in, is a corner of Richmond, BC (a suburb of Vancouver) called Steveston.

The town is named after one of the original settlers here, Manoah Steves.

Rich in maritime heritage, Steveston was home to one of the largest commercial fishing fleets in North America, as well as having very productive fish cannery and boat building industries.

Here is a Wikipedia article with some more information.

This is a shot of a small portion of the main drag in the village, Moncton Street. If you watch the TV series "Once Upon a Time", this may look familiar. The show is shot here, where Steveston stands in for "Storybrooke". The film crew covers these business signs with fakies to complete the illusion.

----

This year I'd like to experiment a bit more with processing, lighting and some other stuff.

For this shot I am experimenting with Photomatix for some HDR processing. In the past I was using "Enfuse" and then PSCS5 for exposure blending.

I am trying to keep things looking "realistic", hence the slight blow-outs of the store windows, since well, they should be :). Still working out the sliders and stuff.

I have a few more HDR series from this early morning photo excursion that I can play around with and will hopefully post in the next few days.
