This week I wanted to work on classic portraits. After several low key portraits I wanted one without a black background.
My wife volunteered to model first time - which I really perceived as a compliment - as she is my biggest critic on every discipline.
Strobist:
7ft umbrella behind camera straight on. Octabox from camera left to light background and give some rim light. White foamboard below chin.
[Event] On the local news they informed us that the sun had a small flare explosion and the flare would travel and interfere with our atmosphere on Tuesday, Aug. 3 night. This could then possibly bring out some of the northern lights (which it never did.. but it did farther north in Canada).
Well staying out late that night, we had few clouds, yet there seemed to be cloud lightning flashes every few minutes that night through 1am. No northern lights, but I did try getting some star trails. With low battery (whoops) I knew I only had a few shots. This photo was 3 stacked @ 5 minutes with 100 ISO (to keep the noise lesser then a single 15 minute exposure). Since I had it on auto balance, I made sure the color temp in post-process matched then added a Cooling Filter (80). As you can see, I let about 20 seconds pass between each shot to view the image. This caused those slight gaps between the star trails (top right)
Taylor Swift song lyrics from "Out of the Woods"
Ooh, your necklace hanging from my neck
(she's actually wearing a paper airplane charm like in the music video)
It has been about 3 years so thought I would revisit something I used to love doing! Bit rusty with the first few shots especially with my 'whatever I could find around the house' set up.
Each shot is so different and you can make out some pretty cool things in the smoke!

Visiting Legoland, we were invited to make a 'cake' for the park's dragon mascot, Ollie, celebrating the park's 20th birthday.
I'm Lucy and currently I live in Berlin. I love photography, but I run when I see a camera pointed at me. Or hide. Even if the one who pointed it is myself. I've never done a project like this, and I hope it will help me improve and keep myself organized.
My resolution this year is to seriously invest more time photographing my family and friends. I slacked way too much in that area last year; life's special moments are way too precious not to capture!
When I saw the theme list for Project 52 I thought the chances of seeing a rainbow during the week I was supposed to take one were pretty slim! But one month into the year I was driving home and saw this one in a particularly unphotogenic section of countryside, took it and the picture has sat on my computer desktop waiting for posting. The light was terrible so the only way I could think to bring out the rainbow was to apply some rather cliched selective colouring!
Project 52: Rainbow
HCS!
(Sorry my posts are kind of delayed! Been super busy with school. Well, on a brighter note, it's summer! So it's time to catch up on my Project 52!!!)
Taken at Aklan, Boracay.
I have the feeling that bridges have this power of making you to want to cross them, to see what’s beneath them (who hasn’t stopped on a bridge, to look down?), to see what’s on the other side. Maybe it doesn’t invite you to travel, but it does spark a desire in me to explore.

My last week was pretty much about listening to The Notwist.
Started with a concert on monday and ended with listening until my ears fall off on sunday.
Awfully great band. <3
Jag startar 2016 som jag gjorde 2015, med ett självporträtt. Jag önskar er alla ett bra foto år.
I start 2016 as I did in 2015, with a self-portrait. I wish you all a good photo year.
Foto-Buddies Project 52, Week#40: Composition - Low Angle
The next task in my Project 52 "Composition" series is low angle.
This just encourages one to consider shooting from a lower than usual angle to get an interesting perspective. Here's Mr. Sparks' well-worn pair of Pony sneaks. They have since passed on to the other life. Thank you, Pony! You served Mr. Sparks very well. :)
Looking up :) I certainly didn't think this DIY mobile would fascinate our little girl as there is no music or lights, but it seems as though our 10 week old really enjoys the simplicity of it.

My sons keyboard - as you can see from the dust it doesn't get used much! This was taken last night, the cleaner has been today so it's all nice and clean now. Honest.
These mirrors always get me.

I took some photos down at Maroubra beach today during a short pause in the rain. It was fairly windy and a lot of sea spray blowing at me. So I didn't stay too long.
This photo is #10 in my Project 52
run around in a panic realising that I have a 3 hour marathon of formula 1 coverage to watch later and hadn't taken a picture. So this is me trying to grab a quick picture before the girls went to bed.
I'm a big fan of Chihuly and I am always so amazed by his colorful abstract glass work. While in Seattle, I got to go to the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum. There in the Glass Forest was the perfect chance to capture my abstract prompt. I lowered the shutter speed down to 1/20 and shook the camera a bit while shooting. I LOVE how it turned out.

I played around with the colours. Removed most except green which I saturated. Might not look very natural, but I like the effect.
Project52 Week #8
Subject: Stack it
Well this week's theme has given me a few headaches, not so much thinking of what to do, but with my first efforts of a large tower of books, very wobbly. When you are lying underneath them trying to focus and frame your shot, then timber...ouch!!
I've had quite a few ideas when I stumbled on these straws and thought they would make an interesting subject for my stack it theme.

Any comments, hints, tips or constructive criticism would be appreciated.
We shot in the studio today and broadcast it out on Vokle. It was a lot of fun and we took questions and walked through two different looks.
