So there's a place in K-Town that recently opened up. They serve mainly waffle pizzas.

This one in particular is the avo pizza. It contains avocado (naturally), chicken breast, onions, and chipotle sauce.

Gimmicks like this don't usually live up to the hype, but this is a very delicious exception.

Week 3: Round

Another sport photo. I like how this one does capture a bit of the explosive sport badminton is.

There is more a sense of movement and activity as apposed to my previous rally photo.

Too bad his left arm is not completely in focus, but I do like that you can see the movement of his racket and right arm.

I'm wanting to film a project for uni at the reserve across from my house, so yesterday I went on a location scouting trip. I hadn't been over there very much recently, and even then when I've been I've only gone on the track to the reservoir and back. This time I went in a completely different area and loved it. I got surrounded by a ton of butterflies, but only having the 18-55mm lens meant I couldn't get a decent picture - and now have an urging to go visit the butterfly house at the zoo! I did however get this really nice picture of the bush. It was hard to get the exposure right because of the sun, and I also realised that I had rubbish in the bottom of the picture so I took a few, but in the end I just did an Auto Tone and cropped it in Lightroom and got this which I am really happy with. I thought about putting it into black and white, but decided to leave in colour - I think the different shades of brown and green are essential to the picture. There are lots of other photo opportunities in the reserve, I'll be making sure to go back another time during the year.

Incidentally, yesterday was Red Hill Show day, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I won Best in Show for the second year running! I also got another first, three seconds and a third! Really surprised myself after entering the exact same photos at Berwick and not winning a thing. Having said that, I would have chosen one of the other entries to win - I thought it was amazing and would love to take a similar photo. It's all someone's personal opinion though I guess. Now I just have to choose which ones to enter into Melbourne - I had 10 in Berwick/Red Hill, but their entry fees are $2 compared to $10, so I'll have to only choose 2 or 3 I think.

I thought I would send the tree off with a bit of a celebration. This is the end of my 2012 tree project. Although, it wasn't the most challenging, I did photograph the tree everyday I was at home. I have gone back to look at the 52/1...Celebrate...two sets that I dedicated to the tree. I am pleased to see the changes that a daily photograph can document. If you have a chance check out the sets, "tree and tree...vol.2 " Wishing all my flickr viewers a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!

We had our home rewired yesterday and in 15 hours we have lost power three times. First came half an hour after the electricians left, then 9pm last night, then 8am this morning. So, looks like a possible fault. Just great.

Apart from that, this past week has been extremely stressful, disruptive and dusty. I wish I could explain the living conditions but it's hard to without witnessing it first hand. Living out of boxes, walls broken, floors broken, dirt, dust, the list goes on. I thought I had sufficiently prepared myself for what was about to happen but no, no, no.

I've had three pre-6am starts this week. Very long days especially when you get back at 5pm, clean up, eat, try to relax and then before you know it you have just a few hours sleep before you have to get up again.

The main big work has been done but there's plastering to be done, floors to be repaired and a huge tidy up. I don't think those basics will be completed for at least another 2 weeks and that's before we've even begun to think about redecorating and laying new floors.

It's rather apt that this weeks photo is number 13 of 52, don't you think.

Critique request:

I am not sure why I could not get the edge of the plexiglass to "disappear" on the left of the subject - do I need more light to blow it out? Does the lighting on the subject seem too dark? Especially the dark green leafs in the back of the image and the cucumber in the front left?

My indoor studio space is 7ft x 6th, with a 7 foot ceiling, so space is a huge issue with all of my setups

Foto-Buddies Project 52, Week#13: Framing

Taken at a church in Mendez, Cavite. Propped Fiji against a wall for three reasons: to frame the subject (as foreground frame--then the door served as background frame), to stabilize my shaky hands, & to create the pretense that I'm just taking a macro shot of the wall so as not to alert my subject.

For quite a long time now that images containing sparkles coming from Steel Wool fascinate me... I’ve always found them easy to produce, but I lacked practice... Until one day two friends joined me in an astronomical observation night… Thank God for clouds, because for the first time I was able to try spinning Steel Wool. And let me tell you... IT ROCKS!!! Oh and it isn’t as easy as it looks... Lesson learned… :)

Regarding the pictures, well, I couldn’t make up my mind which one I liked best, so today I post two shots (one is down below) from that cloudy overcast night of astronomical observations with Vitor Ferreira and Nuno Tavares.

Strobist:

YN-467 seguro na mão a 1/2 com gel roxo (3/4 disparos na lateral do barracão) e lanterna com Led XML-T6 para iluminar um pouco o chão, lã de aço para as faiscas.

Strobist: YN-467 handheld at 1/2 with a purple gel (3/4 shots at the side of the shed) and a XML-T6 Led torch to light the foreground a bit, Steel Wool for the flying sparkles.

A wind has blown the rain away and blown the sky away and all the leaves away, and the trees stand. I think, I too, have known autumn too long.

Story Telling: Self-Portrait - Take a picture that tells us who you are, without actually showing your face.

After concluding the 2011 365 Project (check it out here), I thought I would take a little break from regular photography assignments. Well, turns out, I either like the structure in my life or perhaps I'm just slightly masochistic because I'm throwing my hat into the "52" ring. For me, 2011 was a lot about composition and storytelling. This year, I'd like to improve my technical skills. Task #1 is to learn a little bit more about lighting. I've started reading most of the books pictured above and hope to continue on this path of learning. (Yes, I'm much too distractible to read only one book at a time).

This photo was taken on my kitchen table with a black blanket as a backdrop. I used my new flash cable to take the flash off the camera and fire it from 45 degrees to the camera's left. That is all I know about lighting at this moment in time but I plan to change that in 2012.

snow has been dumped on us here in sc for the last couple of days. we of course have been in and out and i loved the way our boots were all kicked off at the door. so, i lined them up and snapped away. thought it was a fun different take on "together" for week 2! i used ptm new freebie action "jubilee" and a free scratch texture i found online.

Foto-Buddies Project 52, Week#50: X10 Adv. - Pop Color

The next task in my "Fuji X10 Advance Feature" series is the x10's "Pop Color" feature.

This is a super useful feature, but it renders an unnatural color to human skin, so I think it is best used only on landscapes and objects, like the subject of this photo.

"Sundot Kulangot," which is a Filipino snack/dessert, can be literally translated in English as "Poke Booger." This is because you will need to poke the inside of the coconut shell to get the "kalamay." "Kalamay" is a confectionary with booger-like consistency made of coconut milk and sugar. I came across this very Pinoy food in Bohol, but I understand this can be easily found all over the Philippines. (Yey! I'm done with my "Fuji X10 Advance Feature" series!)

This weekend I'm mostly on my own as the lovely wife is off to AnimeIowa. So I started poking around AllRecipes.com to see what I could make for dinner. Given that we've gotten a fair number of tomatoes from our CSA share and that tomatoes tend to trigger an acid reflux attack on the lovely wife; I decided to hunt for a recipe to use up a bunch of tomatoes. I'd thought I'd seen a quick/easy stuffed tomato recipe recently, but couldn't find that. After a bit more searching, I ran across this recipe for Four Cheese Margherita Pizza which sounded good. So I went to the grocery store, got some ingredients and whipped it up. My version was tastier than the recipe sounded. *grin*

30/52 - Negative Space

I could easily say my kids are my weakness, but honestly he is my true weakness. He has been since we first met when I was 16. When we were younger we went our separate ways, but it's like the old saying: " If you love someone let them free, if they come back its meant to be." Well, we did find one another again 14 years later. There was an intense connection, neither one of us could live without. He's so smart, sweet, fun, hilarious, crazy, charismatic, passionate, and a big giant kid. He is my husband, my true love, best friend, soul mate, and biggest weakness 100%. <3

My New Year's resolution each year is to read more books than I did the year before. In 2011 I read 42 (yes, I kept track). My hope this year is to read 50. Of course, I am behind on this goal already, since I am starting the year out with a book that is over 1000 pages long. Maybe the next one will be shorter :)

Other goals: Keep a gratitude journal, learn how to use my external flash (why does it intimidate me so much??) and do lots of arts and crafts with my daughter.

Week 3 of my 52 weeks project. Taken last week, but only just edited.

I've added a little texture to add depth to the image.

The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn't matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark.
