The grass is always greener (and probably mowed and doesn't have gopher holes) on the other side of the fence.
But I just fertilized today so talk to me in 48 hours to see if it's greener on this side.
French Toast, it's what's for breakfast!
Hello lovely clicky chicks! Can you believe my hard drive crashed on New Year's Eve? I swear I thought the Mayan Prophecy was coming to fruition! So low and behold, I had to wait for our return from visiting Steve's mom to have it repaired, and that threw off my entire 2nd week of the year.
So here we are, prompt #2. Let's get a rotation going of who posts when :)
#2/52 - Powder!
food | in the air | make-up
During the school week, we are always rushing to get out the door. Although we load up with a hearty breakfast, we don't usually have time for French Toast. Thank goodness for weekends! We particularly love cinnamon raisin French Toast, and this weekend we even added banana to the egg batter*. Have fun capturing your powder!
* Recipe to be shared in a post this Friday on my new blog: ClickyChickCreates.wordpress.com
De fietstaxi in Rotterdam is een leuke manier om je door de stad te laten vervoeren. Voor korte ritjes is de fietstaxi sneller dan de gewone taxi's.
Self explanatory I think. I miss taking regular photos, but can't quite see myself pulling off a 365. In some respects a 52 could be far harder, the temptation to defer to another day seems great. And the feeling that the quality should be higher, when in fact a 'that'll do' might creep in...
Not sure I like all the flickr changes since I last posted, but guess I'll get used to them.
This is a pillar holding up the A4. Taken on a morning when it actually wasn't raining.
Assignment was to create an awesome sandwich image for predesigned ad layout.

What a coincidence. Diana made an entry about my brother Bobby and this weeks Project 52 theme is "relatives".
I will take the opportunity to talk about another brother of mine: Joseph Patrick Junior, or simply: JOE.
It is amazing how few people actually are aware of Joe's existence. Apparently, Mario Puzzo wrote a book entitled "the fourth Kennedy" which is about a fictive fourth brother. Ahm, well, we actually were 4 brothers, (Joe, me, Bobby and Ted) so normally, a fictive one would be "the fifth Kennedy".
Even a lot other people who claim to have studied my life are not aware of Joe's existence.
This is really odd, because when you study, especially my childhood and youth, Joe can hardly be bypassed.
Joe was my older brother and the first born child of our parents. Joe was strong, healthy, brisk, very intelligent and determined to be first one any time and everywhere. The perfect son of his daddy who didn't hope for anything other than a son like this.
Me, well, I was not so healthy, not so intelligent and not so strong like Joe. Joe loved to fight and was very aggressive toward me during my childhood; He permanently challenged me into fights and matches I never could win. I was spanked by him and beaten so often, that it almost killed me. He was my fathers favorite son and destined to become a hero, make an amazing career and yes, become President of the United States.
During WW2, Joe was a volunteer for a risky mission: Flying a plane full of explosives into that German base at the French Coast, where the terrible V2 missiles were kept. Something went wrong and instead of jumping of in the last minute, the Plane exploded with Joe on board.
My Father got the news, prohibited us from crying and then locked himself in a room where he could cry alone. After this, I had to live Joe's life and achieve all the things, Joe was originally planned to do. It was not easy. Try to live the life of another and in the same time, trying to live MY life and MY dreams.
I wonder how many people actually connect with Joe Kennedy Junior. Probably a lot less than those who do with me or Bobby or even Ted.
Diana once did have a Dream with him : Joe was very bitter and said to her that in the Kennedy Family, the oldest child was assigned to educate the younger siblings and since he was the oldest, he somehow had the burden of responsibility for the rest of us. He said to her that he was simply overchallenged by this responsibility and since I wasn't an easy child, he reacted with violence when he was at wits end. All while I had halfway the opportunity to find my own ways during my life, he never had this chance and did what others expected from him, until his early death. So he feels quite screwed.
Its not easy for me, too. I somehow made Joe responsible for me having to live in his shadow, for the fact that my parents preferred him over me and for all the violence I suffered from him. In the other hand, I also love and admire him and I feel sorry that his life was pretty much wasted, at the very end.
Relatives: You can't choose them, unlike friends.
He is my other half and definitely my soul mate. We are opposite in so many ways, yet fit together like perfect puzzle pieces. We balance one another out and I can not imagine my life without him as a part of it
Voltamos!
4 days each day - year 2
1th week - free/livre
So there's a place in K-Town that recently opened up. They serve mainly waffle pizzas.
This one in particular is the avo pizza. It contains avocado (naturally), chicken breast, onions, and chipotle sauce.
Gimmicks like this don't usually live up to the hype, but this is a very delicious exception.
Another sport photo. I like how this one does capture a bit of the explosive sport badminton is.
There is more a sense of movement and activity as apposed to my previous rally photo.
Too bad his left arm is not completely in focus, but I do like that you can see the movement of his racket and right arm.
I'm wanting to film a project for uni at the reserve across from my house, so yesterday I went on a location scouting trip. I hadn't been over there very much recently, and even then when I've been I've only gone on the track to the reservoir and back. This time I went in a completely different area and loved it. I got surrounded by a ton of butterflies, but only having the 18-55mm lens meant I couldn't get a decent picture - and now have an urging to go visit the butterfly house at the zoo! I did however get this really nice picture of the bush. It was hard to get the exposure right because of the sun, and I also realised that I had rubbish in the bottom of the picture so I took a few, but in the end I just did an Auto Tone and cropped it in Lightroom and got this which I am really happy with. I thought about putting it into black and white, but decided to leave in colour - I think the different shades of brown and green are essential to the picture. There are lots of other photo opportunities in the reserve, I'll be making sure to go back another time during the year.
Incidentally, yesterday was Red Hill Show day, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I won Best in Show for the second year running! I also got another first, three seconds and a third! Really surprised myself after entering the exact same photos at Berwick and not winning a thing. Having said that, I would have chosen one of the other entries to win - I thought it was amazing and would love to take a similar photo. It's all someone's personal opinion though I guess. Now I just have to choose which ones to enter into Melbourne - I had 10 in Berwick/Red Hill, but their entry fees are $2 compared to $10, so I'll have to only choose 2 or 3 I think.
I thought I would send the tree off with a bit of a celebration. This is the end of my 2012 tree project. Although, it wasn't the most challenging, I did photograph the tree everyday I was at home. I have gone back to look at the 52/1...Celebrate...two sets that I dedicated to the tree. I am pleased to see the changes that a daily photograph can document. If you have a chance check out the sets, "tree and tree...vol.2 " Wishing all my flickr viewers a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!
We had our home rewired yesterday and in 15 hours we have lost power three times. First came half an hour after the electricians left, then 9pm last night, then 8am this morning. So, looks like a possible fault. Just great.
Apart from that, this past week has been extremely stressful, disruptive and dusty. I wish I could explain the living conditions but it's hard to without witnessing it first hand. Living out of boxes, walls broken, floors broken, dirt, dust, the list goes on. I thought I had sufficiently prepared myself for what was about to happen but no, no, no.
I've had three pre-6am starts this week. Very long days especially when you get back at 5pm, clean up, eat, try to relax and then before you know it you have just a few hours sleep before you have to get up again.
The main big work has been done but there's plastering to be done, floors to be repaired and a huge tidy up. I don't think those basics will be completed for at least another 2 weeks and that's before we've even begun to think about redecorating and laying new floors.
It's rather apt that this weeks photo is number 13 of 52, don't you think.

Critique request:
I am not sure why I could not get the edge of the plexiglass to "disappear" on the left of the subject - do I need more light to blow it out? Does the lighting on the subject seem too dark? Especially the dark green leafs in the back of the image and the cucumber in the front left?
My indoor studio space is 7ft x 6th, with a 7 foot ceiling, so space is a huge issue with all of my setups

Foto-Buddies Project 52, Week#13: Framing
Taken at a church in Mendez, Cavite. Propped Fiji against a wall for three reasons: to frame the subject (as foreground frame--then the door served as background frame), to stabilize my shaky hands, & to create the pretense that I'm just taking a macro shot of the wall so as not to alert my subject.

For quite a long time now that images containing sparkles coming from Steel Wool fascinate me... I’ve always found them easy to produce, but I lacked practice... Until one day two friends joined me in an astronomical observation night… Thank God for clouds, because for the first time I was able to try spinning Steel Wool. And let me tell you... IT ROCKS!!! Oh and it isn’t as easy as it looks... Lesson learned… :)
Regarding the pictures, well, I couldn’t make up my mind which one I liked best, so today I post two shots (one is down below) from that cloudy overcast night of astronomical observations with Vitor Ferreira and Nuno Tavares.

I've decided to do a Project 52 this year and have joined in the My Four Hens Project 52 group. Each week a theme will provided (which you can follow but do not have to). This week's theme is "Resolution". Very fitting for the beginning of a new year. I've decided that my resolution is to get my tennis shoes off the rack and on my feet... leading me out the door and into exercising. So far so good. Today I completed week 1, day 1 of the Couch to 5k program.
A wind has blown the rain away and blown the sky away and all the leaves away, and the trees stand. I think, I too, have known autumn too long.

Story Telling: Self-Portrait - Take a picture that tells us who you are, without actually showing your face.
After concluding the 2011 365 Project (check it out here), I thought I would take a little break from regular photography assignments. Well, turns out, I either like the structure in my life or perhaps I'm just slightly masochistic because I'm throwing my hat into the "52" ring. For me, 2011 was a lot about composition and storytelling. This year, I'd like to improve my technical skills. Task #1 is to learn a little bit more about lighting. I've started reading most of the books pictured above and hope to continue on this path of learning. (Yes, I'm much too distractible to read only one book at a time).
This photo was taken on my kitchen table with a black blanket as a backdrop. I used my new flash cable to take the flash off the camera and fire it from 45 degrees to the camera's left. That is all I know about lighting at this moment in time but I plan to change that in 2012.
