Well overnight we had a mixture of hail, sleet and a little snow.
It didn't really stick, it did make things look pretty, and it made things mighty slippy!
Finnish snow, it is not.
Took an evening flight to Germany as I've got a meeting in the morning. Comfortable flight out with my Times and Kindle to keep me company.
I don't know how many times I've driven the 5 between SoCal and the Bay Area. It's tied to my memories since I still consider myself an LA boy even though I've lived so long in the Bay Area. It's a freeway that we just want to get past. But it's also about leaving home. And coming home.
I recall my first time experiencing this barren landscape sitting in my dad's brown Datsun station wagon to visit our kaka in Vallejo. Since then, I driven up during college and had my car break down. I've enjoyed singing along with Radha Champaneria to MP3s on a massive pre-iPod MP3 player. And now we speed along with 3 kids and 2 dogs in the back switching between DVDs and songs the kids can sing along to.
I don't know how many more times I'll drive this road. But it's always going to hold memories for me and it's always going to connect two important places for me.
Nope, I had never heard of this concept before getting a little photo tip e-mail from Nick Kelsh today. I HAD to give this a try, though the success / effort ratio was out of balance. I need photography lessons. AGAIN. Nevertheless, the idea is super enticing and I will find my Bokeh again one of these days :)
This was in Winter Park, FL. It was a shopping area with open hall ways from the street. For this shot I had them stop about 15 feet in from the opening to the outside. This created a large diffused light source. The tile had a strong yellow tint to it, so I thought the strong yellow against the blues would be nice.
By the time I get home from work (or skiing), I often don't have good light to get great action photos of the girls, so for my Project 365 on those days, I've tried to find stuff around our office to photograph. Luckily my co-worker is a packrat and I can find all sorts of interesting stuff.
Day 14: Pasta night. With the burner on high and the water boiling, I tired to capture the steam coming off the water and the orange glow of the burner.
Is that a g-g-g-ghost? This was fun -- I've always wanted to do a "ghostly" shot and this assignment gave me the incentive to actually try it. Took quite a few attempts to get the timing right for a semi-transparent figure. Wish I had a white dress; I couldn't bring myself to dash around a public cemetery in a white sheet!

Day 292: I decided to play around with some lighting tonight and lite up my much used nalgene bottle.
Today's Project365 is of a statue in Sturt Street in Ballarat.
I was driving up the street tonight and noticed that the green lighting in the background would add a little extra to the shot.
Shame about the pole directly behind the statue.
From fbbg.org.au:
Statue of Hebe 1899 Sculptor: B Raggi, White Carrara marble
The plaque reads:
"Presented to The City Council of Ballaarat by John Permewan J.P. 1899"
Unveiled 3 April 1899. This wealthy gentleman of the firm of carriers Permewan & Wright, was also an investor.
2014 Project 365 - Day 005/365 - It's Gettin' Cold Down Here, so Put on All Your Clothes!
The absolute best thing about Memphis weather is that even the weather forecasters put question marks over their predictions.
Today, we had a short warm spell with rain, and then began the rapid temperature drop to the predicted 'Arctic levels' (8 degrees Fahrenheit). At time of this posting, we are at 25 degrees (feeling like 11 - says weather app). I held out hope earlier today that snow would actually accompany this cold jag, except the temperature dropped after the rain stopped, so it didn't. Snow tease accompanied by a deep freeze instead.
I had a very busy day today, but I still did photograph - a cold scene, and a mostly empty milk shelf at the grocery store - Memphians will appreciate. If only I could have beheld an empty bread shelf!
"Bucky" - a little reminder of my other home up there in the "Great White North".

I know my husband love me because he lets me drag him along to art galleries. :) This building was fascinating to me. To be honest, I came not because of the art, but because of the building. We did check out the art while we were there. Our favorite was a band called Supertramp (www.youraga.ca/exhibit/up-north) and they had set up videos on four surrounding screens of them playing a piece out in the snow surrounded by mountains. It was beautiful!
Day 44 / 365 (#410)
Over a foot of snow overnight, with a couple inches more to come. So, snow tunnels were made.

#32: Cheap fags. Soon all fags will look this if this ridiculous new "grey packets for all" legislation gets passed.
