Fell asleep early like an old man this Friday night, and was lucky to wake up in time to take something, anything. I ended up with this picture inside the microwave oven. Quite similar to yesterday's efforts too but it was take something in a few minutes or fail, so took the former.
I don't know how many times I've driven the 5 between SoCal and the Bay Area. It's tied to my memories since I still consider myself an LA boy even though I've lived so long in the Bay Area. It's a freeway that we just want to get past. But it's also about leaving home. And coming home.
I recall my first time experiencing this barren landscape sitting in my dad's brown Datsun station wagon to visit our kaka in Vallejo. Since then, I driven up during college and had my car break down. I've enjoyed singing along with Radha Champaneria to MP3s on a massive pre-iPod MP3 player. And now we speed along with 3 kids and 2 dogs in the back switching between DVDs and songs the kids can sing along to.
I don't know how many more times I'll drive this road. But it's always going to hold memories for me and it's always going to connect two important places for me.
Because this chubby dad wanted to pose for the camera.
"Want a sexy pose?" *pose*
god damn you, dad.
This was in Winter Park, FL. It was a shopping area with open hall ways from the street. For this shot I had them stop about 15 feet in from the opening to the outside. This created a large diffused light source. The tile had a strong yellow tint to it, so I thought the strong yellow against the blues would be nice.
We spent our first night of holiday in the Premier Inn, at Newcastle Airport.
There was a bit of a mess-up with the meal, which was a shame because everything else to do with the hotel was simply excellent. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms very clean indeed. Breakfast was great, and overall the hotel offered extremely good value for money.
The hotel was less than five minutes walk from tea airport, and so in the morning we went for a walk to scout out the route. When we realised that checkin was open, we went back to the hotel and grabbed our cases. we checked out of the hotel and walked to the airport.
On the way I grabbed this picture, shooting into the windows of the building currently being built between the hotel and the airport. You can see me, holding the SLR and Sigma 18-200mm lens.
Checkin went smoothly, we did some shopping in duty-free, and got on our aircraft. The flight to Geneva was trouble-free, we got onto our bus without difficulty and soon were being driven to Flaine.
The first part of the journey, along the A40, was perfectly pleasant. But when we turned off onto the small local roads that would take us to Flaine... wow! I've never seen quite so many hairpin bends so close together in my life! Full marks to the driver for getting us there without a scratch on the vehicle!
Eventually we got to Hotel le Totem, where we had an absolutely delicious meal before retiring to our rooms. While the rooms might not have been to the best of standards, they were clean, and the exquisite food made up for any shortcomings in the room.
Now, it was time to ski!
JUNE11@Chuck E. Cheese's: They blindfolded me and took me to this horrible place. Haha. We got pizza and 100 tokens which we used to get the squirt guns. In the parking lot we had a water fight. We all look so stupid in this picture but it was the most fun I had in a long time. Thanks you guys.
Is that a g-g-g-ghost? This was fun -- I've always wanted to do a "ghostly" shot and this assignment gave me the incentive to actually try it. Took quite a few attempts to get the timing right for a semi-transparent figure. Wish I had a white dress; I couldn't bring myself to dash around a public cemetery in a white sheet!

It was 20 degrees Celsius - gorgeous day. Went on a nice walk with Mary and Hank. I got the itch - can't wait for warmer weather to be here and go on longer walks again!
Day 292: I decided to play around with some lighting tonight and lite up my much used nalgene bottle.
Today's Project365 is of a statue in Sturt Street in Ballarat.
I was driving up the street tonight and noticed that the green lighting in the background would add a little extra to the shot.
Shame about the pole directly behind the statue.
From fbbg.org.au:

The plaque reads:

Well it's not me! That's why I'm stillup at going on midnight, farting about on the computer whilst Pam is snoozing. Shes been working really hard at work lately, it's the end of the month. That means bring homebig boxes of files and doing report things on the computer for most of the night. I'm chief in charge of brews whilst this goes on. Then it's all done and the snoozing commences. Then I get hold of the computer and arse around for a while. Take a picture and snooze too. Another day tomorrow...
Phil.
Well this is double trouble!
I was trying to take a photo of my dear old Mum's slippers.....I decided to do a pic looking down on them, and realised my feet could be included in the pic.....odd or interesting, you pick.
The funny thing is my feet look kinda small - in reality, Mum takes a size 6 and I take a size 8 shoe.
"Bucky" - a little reminder of my other home up there in the "Great White North".

#32: Cheap fags. Soon all fags will look this if this ridiculous new "grey packets for all" legislation gets passed.
