I write this with a heavy heart. The last couple of years have found me with a progressively debilitating spinal column and joint problems. If it were just me, I would never ask, but I have 2 young daughters that look to me for support, so I have to swallow my pride...
If you are in a position to help, I have setup an account to accept donations, even as little as the price of a coffee. Anything would be greatly appreciated. See my "About" page on Flickr for the link. Thank you.

Maximo Fernandez

The "QR code for the place" on the wall outside the window is a new-born relic of the past, after six months of monitoring the lives of the residents, as China has completely abandoned its anti-epidemic restrictions.
Theoretically, each customer was supposed to scan the "QR code for the place" with his/her smartphone, which then displayed a so-called "health QR code": if it was green, it meant there is no problem, if it was yellow, the customer would be refused and, if it was red, everyone, whether the customer with the red QR code or the shop assistants who were present, would be arrested and taken to a concentration camp for quarantine.
I’m so fucking happy all time
Also, I’m really good at telling lies
My friends they always call me for advice
But they don’t know
I’ve been crying
For the past seven nights
This happens every single time I’m drinking
Like I can finally hear the thoughts I’m thinking
Fake bitch, fake bitch
Running from her problems
But she makes it look so good when she ignores them
And she puts them on a shelf
And she whispers to herself
It’s okay, bitch
Don’t ever change, bitch
Sorry that I didn’t say goodbye
Life’s a bitch, but so am I

This was a mistake in exposure as I am having problems with the connection between my Canon 5DSR and the Sigma Art lens and it overexposed the shot quite dramatically. I did intend to bin the shot but then played around and quite liked it - very much a Marmite shot!!
Nr. 1 Fomatone 132 (Charge 080348-01) in Meritol.
NR. 4 Überbelichtung +2 Blenden (30+30+10+800 ml ) Entwicklungszeit 7 Minuten – Ergebnis: heftige Snowballs.
All previous attempts to chemically solve the snowball problem have not been as successful as hoped. The special developer for Fomatone worked with some earlier batches, but with the latest batches, frustration returned.
Tests conducted over the last few days indicate that the current batches can no longer cope with severe overexposure. To determine the degree of overexposure, the first step is to produce a conventionally developed print.
From left to right.
No. 1 Fomatone 132 (batch 080348-01) in Meritol.
No. 2 A batch of Fomatone at least 25 years old (014326/1 exp. X.2002) Overexposure for lith 3.5 f-stops, (15+15+5+700 ml) Development time 8 minutes.
No. 3 Fomatone 132 (batch 080348-01) overexposure +1.5 f-stops (30+30+10+600 ml) development time 6.5 minutes – result: slightly more colourful than Meritol, but no real lith effect. A more diluted developer (as in No. 2) would result in a longer development time with expected snowball formation.
A longer exposure time is required for higher colour saturation, but this then requires a higher developer dilution or more slowing Lith D.
No. 4 Overexposure +2 f-stops (30+30+10+800 ml) development time 7 minutes – Result: severe snowballs.
Conclusion: Fomatone lith prints with high colour saturation, as was once commonplace, are currently not possible.
This leaves only Foma Retrobrom for colour lith prints from current production.
No. 5 Retrobrom 152 Overexposure 3 to 3.5 f-stops (30+30+10+800 ml) development time 10 minutes – snowballs can also appear with this paper, but only with longer development times or stronger overexposure.

One of the main challenges of planning a trip to Yosemite Valley is efficiently managing your time to cover the multitude of photo opportunities at this park. You have this fear of missing out while at already famous and well-established locations. I have always felt that every single viewpoint of the valley deserves the best possible light. The problem with the best light approach is that you will probably need a year to cover all the excellent photographic opportunities at Yosemite. Plus, Yosemite Valley is one place where the mood and beauty of a location drastically change in different weather conditions. Every time you visit, it is not easy to forego a site you already photographed instead of something new.
Hanging Valley viewpoint is a location that has the unfortunate luck of being close to Valley view. Often photographers pass this viewpoint in their hurry to get to the valley view and secure a parking spot. Also, the parking lot for this spot is tiny. Another trouble is Yosemite’s one-way traffic policy making it almost impossible to get to this location after shooting sunrise at valley view as you will have to complete the whole drive to get back here.
During our visit to the valley in the winter of 2015, I managed to secure a parking spot at the Hanging Valley viewpoint just before the sunset. The light had some great warm tones, and the Cathedral Rocks were being spot lighted with the best kind of side lighting. I included the Merced river as the foreground for the image and took a quick panorama image of the mountain peaks. As luck would have it, some low-lying clouds in front of the rock cliff give the picture a little x-factor along with the golden light.
Last year I got to go on a great photo trip with a friend and his son. They brought along an old film camera to shoot black and white images. His son was setting up for a reflection picture here at Owens Lake. The only thing missing was great clouds.
I learned a lot about the lake on this trip. I always thought the lake was closed to the public when driving by because of all the large trucks driving along the roads in the lake. I thought they were mining a mineral. Wrong, the trucks are spreading water along the lake bed to keep down the dust. The city of LA lost a law suit because they divert the water that naturally goes to the lake bed and it became a dust bowl causing a lot of health problems to people living on this side of the Sierras. But you can drive on the roads and the lake is open to the public. When we learned that, off we went to take pictures.

For the little treecreeper it was not so easy to fly back to the nest, because the visibility was strongly limited by the nesting material.

Out on the pontoon boat cruising the marsh edge, didn't see any soras or bitterns but had several great blues.
Really like the eye focus abilities of Canons R7.
Ardea herodias
Great Blue Herons congregate at fish hatcheries, creating potential problems for the fish farmers. A study found that herons ate mostly diseased fish that would have died shortly anyway. Sick fish spent more time near the surface of the water where they were more vulnerable to the herons.

Citirail power has been showing up more on Norfolk Southern lately, reportedly in the service of BNSF and paying back horsepower hours to NS. One of the stripe-nose GEVOs ended up on the front of NS 36Q, running from Linwood, NC to Allentown, PA last month.
On any other day this would be a hot chase for railfans but air problems in the cold plagued this train, and after multiple stops the crew outlawed after only about 60 miles. NS 747 ran around it outside of Shippensburg with a pair of commemorative paint AC44C6M's and a heritage unit leading and the buffs followed.
Amtrak No. 3, the Southwest Chief, is about to curve through the mile 706.2 semaphores near Robinson, New Mexico, on May 20, 1999. Apparently some power issues further east on the trip has required the assistance of Burlington Northern EMD SD60M No. 9276 to pilot the train west.
The other night for my photo of the Ferris Wheel, I mentioned frustrations I was having with getting the IR remote shutter release working. I was determined to fix it or ditch it....and fix it I did. In celebration we had a Mexican dinner down at Redcliffe where I shot this scene of the quite low light on the Jetty across the road. It was only 6.00pm, we got away early. Winter!
I had just told a friend that I had stopped using extender because I had problems with the AF. After seeing samples from other photographers, I decided to try again and it does work. I was probably me who did a bad job originally. This one is part of a crew that is making holes in the siding of our house. Hard to stop them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wild Sorrel flowers, Meadow Sorrel, Sour - Rumex acetosa (Polygonaceae)
When its raw leaves are bitten into, they release a distinct lemony flavor.
Warning
Meadow sorrel contains oxalic acid. It is therefore not recommended to eat it in large quantities, especially for people with kidney (kidney stones), liver, or joint (arthritis, etc.) problems.
Parts Used :
The leaves
can be added raw to salads or covered with chocolate to make delicious lemony snacks. They can also be made into lemonade. Traditionally, they are prepared in soups or sauces to accompany fish. In the latter case, cultivated sorrel is more often used.
Due to problems with the leased slug set that is normally assigned to the SAPPI job, Pan Am ran the 77 on instead, along with the normal mill switcher, GP15-1 406. SAPPI-3 is seen at Fairfield crossing US Route 201, about to enter the Waterville yard at CPF111 with about thirty cars in tow. Unfortunately, this was the final day it was assigned to the job, but with continuing issues involving the slug set, it hasn't been too uncommon for Pan Am's remaining GP9s to find their way onto the job, which used to be on of their strongholds years ago.

As if one more image of a tree weren't enough I feel I must go on with my quest for a correct colour balance or at least the one in my head. My problem is it takes days and sometimes weeks for me to mentally sand down the veneer of any image and see it for what it really is.
Now I'm quite sure you can never 'make' a great image but I've reason to believe you can bring one out if you've messed up the exposure to begin with. Of course it doesn't make you any better in regards to the technical side of photography but it does seem to help you look for better compositions next time you're out there and to learn to trust your own instincts.
Thank you for passing through this beautiful wood with me :)

The northbound I-5 corridor stacks, ZLCTM, makes its way across the Central Valley as it roars through Sheridan, CA. If this was 2020 this would’ve been a normal occurrence, however, over the past few years the ZLCTM has seen itself take the former WP to the west of the SP out of Stockton since it’s faster. Today though was a bit different since the train’s second motor, UP 6318, was having problems. After listening to the radio it sounded like the unit was having a fuel leak. This would cause UP 7071 to be put on in its place, and after the regularly scheduled crew change that normally would happen in Sacramento, the train got on the move again. But unfortunately for the crew, they would notice that the train’s two DPUs, an AC44 and SD70M, were having problems the moment they left the yard… how convenient. This became an even bigger problem as it was the AC44 with issues, meaning the SD70M may had also had issues acting as a DPU due to 70Ms having unusual DPU capabilities. After meeting with the Rocklin Rocket at the first siding north of Roseville, the train would stop for the Rocket crew to inspect it, and ultimately after talking with dispatch about what to do, the train would leave with two DPUs without working dynamics. During this whole time several trains were backed up including, MGRRV, MPDRV, INPOA, and the Z’s counterpart ZBRLC.
