The probability of having achieved human-level AI before a certain date implied by the answers to the Winter Intelligence conference survey. Respondents gave not only their estimates for when it was 50% chance of human-level AI but also 10% and 90%. Fitting a triangular probability distribution to each answer, the resulting average probability density gives an estimate of the collective belief.
The probability density in the past is due to tails of the component distributions being forced to extend before the present by certain answers.
Most of my apple plantings have been selected on one simple criterion: can I buy this variety of fruit at the market? Growing fruit that you can buy is an economic argument. Growing fruit which you cannot buy is about the value of your labour offset by pleasures of the flesh that can't be bought. The background principles of food miles, environmental benefits, cost, awareness of the chemicals used and so on remain constant whether you buy a rubbish apple with an annoying oval-shaped sticker declaring your apple to be an apple or if you picked it from just over there.
You are patient! Righto. I've also selected fruit which ripens early, mid and late season. Commercial orchardists want everything off in as tight a window as possible. Cold storage, chemical dips, waxing, gassing does the rest for that supply chain. It's ugly and I don't want to talk about it. I'm upset by just that meagre description. My methodology is old-school, so it suits old apple varieties. I can, with no excessive effort and benign seasons, supply my table with fresh apples for seven months of the year. Their heritage is mixed: mostly English, sprinkled with French, Latvian and a dash of USA.
I don't have any Australian-bred apples — sorry Granny Smith and Geevston Fanny. But I do have this little deviant: the Freyberg. Being a new kid on the block, and a product of New Zealand's self-confident can-do approach to things, it is well documented as a grandchild of my previous post of the Ribston Pippin. Records show it was bred in 1934 but wasn't released before the breeder died. Indeed it languished in research stations until 1959 when it was commercially released. This is in great contrast to the old varieties, some with documented heritage back to the 16th century — that's the deviation.
Let's draw breath and think about that. New, it is, in a commercial sense. But its DNA is ancient. I'll run this past you. When the known world was ravaged by Yersinia pestis, my grannies survived the pandemic; obviously and improbably. Centuries on, and an unimaginable number of couplings between other survivors — who were often translocated by circumstances to be improbably within coupling distance — has resulted in these fingers writing about a cross between apple varieties as though it is remarkable. It's not, in the sense of being a natural thing exploited, but in the other sense, really worth thinking about.

The formula for Theoretical Probability of an event is several of approving outcome separate by amount of total outcomes. The probability, P(E), E (event) is the fraction of times we can expect E to occur if it’s repeat the same experiment over and over. The probability of an event is the ratio of the amount of outcomes approving to the event, to total amount of equally outcomes. This is the classical theoretical probability.

The following is excerpted from The Gypsy Moth in Oregon (1986), by the Oregon Department of Agriculture:
"The first established infestation of gypsy moths was discovered in Salem, Oregon in 1981. Over 1,000 male moths and 400 egg masses were found in a 20 square mile area. A 4,000 acre area, encompassing all of the egg mass detections was sprayed with carbaryl in the spring of 1982. About 200 moths were traped outside the spray area following the eradications program. In 1983, delimination trapping was used in the area to pinpoint the residual population. This was followed by a second eradication spray program in 1984 using Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) on 8,470 acres where the residual population had established. The 1985 trapping results show that the Salem infestation is virtually eliminated. Established infestations of gypsy moths were also detected in 1983 in Corvallis, Gresham, and two sites in west Portland. An eradication spray program using B.t. was conducted in each aera in 1984 followed by mass trapping in the core area of each spray block. No moths were caught in any of these areas in 1985. ...
In 1984, four new gypsy moth infestations were uncovered. Three were small localized infestations in urban areas with a history of gypsy moth catches. The fourth infestation was considerably larger covering about 1,200 square miles of Land County and represnts the largest gypsy moth infestation in the western United States. ...
The Lane County infestation discovered in 1984 actually consists of three major infestation sites with a scattering of moth detections at low numbers for several miles around each site. The infestation centers were located near Franklin along Territorial Road, at Hawkins Heights in Eugene, and near Cedar Hills Road in Pleasant Hill. Moth catches in these areas ranted from 20-900 per trap site and egg mass densities ranged between 50-1,000 per acre. The infestation center near Cedar Hills Road appears to be the oldest and may have been present for several years. This site is in a rural area not routinely surveyed for gypsy moths due to the lower probability of moth introduction there. However, Highway 58 is routinely surveyed, and although the Cedar Hills area is only two miles south of it, traps along Highway 58 remained negative unti 1984. A few moths were detected in Lowell just east of the infestation center in 1982 and 1983, but extensive trapping and egg mass searching revealed no infestation prior to 1984. That year the gypsy moth population in the area underwent a tremendous increase, expanding into the urban and recreational areas which ere regularly surveyed. Escalation of the trapping program into the rural and forested areas surrounding the original introduction site revealed the exten of this expansion. Nearly 16,000 male moths were caught in or near the communities of Pleasant Hill, Dexter, Lowell, Lost Creek, Jasper, Fall Creek, Westfir, and Oakridge. An additional 111 males were caught near Dorena Lake, Creswell, Cottage Grove, and Cottage Grove Lake. With the exception of Lowell, no gypsy moths were caught in the above communities prior to 1984. ..."

I chose this location for the probability of running water in the river and the chance to play in mud, but this particular location sorta smelled like cow poop. Oh well..

so, mister koppa ( proprietor of the heavy duty press ) and i ended an exciting evening for two middle-aged guys by playing a round of yahtzee.
it came down to the final two turns of dice rolling and neither of us had rolled an "any yahtzee" ( defined as all five dice have the same value during a player's turn of three rolls of 5 dice).
mister koppa got a yahtzee in two rolls on his turn and i promptly responded with a yahtzee in two rolls on my turn. neither of us had ever seen anything like that happen. ever. and it made me wonder what the odds were of it happening.
most of the yahtzee probability sites seem to agree that the odds of rolling an any yahtzee after two rolls is 1.3% or about 1 in 75 turns, which means you might rightly expect to get a yahtzee on two rolls about every 6 games ( with 13 turns per game ).
but what are the odds of rolling two successive yahtzees in two rolls? isn't it 1.3%*1.3% or 0.02% or 1 in 5,000 turns?
if so, that's just another night of improbability in the driftless region.
and, yes, i won.

When we are solving Conditional Probability Examples ,we deal with two events, say A and B , sometimes these events are so related to each other , that the probability will depend on whether the other event has already occurred. Conditional probability can be defined as the probability of an event given that another event has already occurred.
Let’s consider an example for Conditional probability: Consider a card game, suppose a player needs to draw 2 cards of the same suit to win, out of 52 cards there can be 13 cards in each suit. If the first player draws a heart, and the player wishes to draw a second heart. If one heart has already been chosen, then we only have 12 hearts remaining out of 51 cards.

Luray, VA (Page County)
According to historian Harry Strickler, the town of Luray, laid out in 1812, "was established in all probability for the purpose of having a central and inviting place for a county seat in the event a new county should be established," an eventuality that came to pass in 1831. Prior to Luray's establishment, the hamlet of Mundellsville had developed at a mill site less than a mile up Hawksbill Creek from Luray, but Luray was the first legislatively established town in the Page Valley, separated from the core areas of Shenandoah and Rockingham counties (of which Page County was then a part) by Massanutten Mountain. Shakespeare’s Titania was the Queen of the Fairies, and was in all probability a reference to the mother goddess of Pagan belief. Jealous Oberon, her consort and the Fairy King, ordered mischievous Puck to spill potion into her eyes as she slept in her bower: This would make her fall in love with the first creature she saw upon awakening. This turned out to be the Hapless Bottom, an actor rehearsing for a play in the woods. He happened to be wearing the head of an ass at the time, and it is this bizarre vision that Titania falls madly in love with.
