Sigma DP3 Merrill : Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro

In the late afternoon of a dark and rainy day, a shaft of sunlight provides a wonderful illumination for these beautiful flowers.

Fire in the fells - A wonderfully calm and serene dawn sees the Langdale Pikes lit up as though they are on fire, perfectly reflected in Blea Tarn.

The intense sunrise light catches the Langdale Pikes beautifully and makes for a magnificent scene across the wonderfully still water of the tarn.

Bolt of the Day

At 1AM, a line of storms moved through. I grabbed my GoPro and set it up under my deck. Within a minute this strike occurred about a quarter mile away.

Exposure 30 seconds. Note rain drop frozen as the lightning lit up the scene. About 0.24 inch fell between 1AM and 2AM (8/7).

On a day where for once the weather conditions did not dissappoint, the sun shone perfectly through a low lying mist, producing these beautiful sunbeams. The effect was over quite quickly, as the sun soon burned away the mist, so I was quite fortunate to be there to photograph it - doubly fortunate for my other half, who was with me on this occassion. Naturally, this made it all the more special, having someone there to share it with.

Drift is always eager to "help" in the garden ... he'll run after a leaf, a bit of grass or whatever he can find that lies around. On a walk it also can be just about everything ... a stick, a plastic bottle, a beercan ... I even saw him running after an empty plastic cookie package that flew away in the wind ;) If you keep "it" up high in your hand he can perfectly focus on it and lie still for a macro shot of his eye, as you can see here :)

The species was introduced around 180 years ago by British Colonial communities.

A spectacular seascape and sunset at Kallur in the Faroes, at the northern extremity of Kalsoy island. If you look closely you can see the lighthouse perched on the hillside dwarfed by the dramatic sea cliffs below - hopefully this gives some sense of scale to the landscape which is breathtaking! The golden light was just beautiful on this evening, illuminating the grasses perfectly.

I found this dahlia today lying at the edge of one of the neighborhood gardens - stem broken - so I rescued it and gave it a home for the next few days while it is still in bloom.

It's taking Cider a bit to adjust to his new brother, Charlie, who arrived on Friday. Cider has been tolerant, but is not showing to much brotherly love at this point. He is, however, making it perfectly clear where Charlie is in the pecking order.

Are you enjoying this weather? I know it’s rainy here in Chicago but I love it. There is nothing like these first spring rains! I feel good just listening to it. To finish off these Saturday I will leave you with this mono frame from March of this year. What do you think?

Work was chaotic and way too busy today which left very little time for a lunch break (honestly my lunch break was walking between two buildings to get from one meeting to another) so I wasn't able to go searching for spring colours.

Luckily Fyero was perfectly perched when I got home from work and I was able to grab a very quick shot of her that I actually really like. I love when she perches like this and can never have enough shot of her like this.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Hello everyone! ;)

Yesterday's photoshoot was a success! :)

I had been worried because the three guys that got in contact with me to do this photoshoot were freaking me out, saying that the singer had had such a tough life and he was always too serious, he never laughed and that the photos needed to be dinamic and youthful, because he is 20 and looks like he's 35 in the photos, that he was not photogenic, that this... that that, that they had done a photoshoot with another photographer and the photos were awful and no good for use whatsoever...

Also, the guy promoting the singer - he's the one paying for the photoshoot - was fighting prices with me and I had already given a discount, but he wanted 1/4 of my original price and there was no way in hell I was going to accept that. He got mad (even though I didn't say anything about "no way in hell" in our conversation lol) and he said that the other photographer had done the photoshoot for free and that there was another that wanted to do the same, to which I replied: "Yes, the same free photos you got, that only got you to spend time and couldn't use a single one of the photos because they were not near good enough, and the same would be true with the other one, thing is you want MY photos and MY price is this."

See? I got mad and got a bit cocky and then I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to deliver hehehe :P

When we got to the location - an abandoned skeleton of a building - the singer was in a good mood... and he would sometimes frown, but I was atentive to that, also Lílian Morita (my make-up artist and lighting assistant for most of the time) was there and we were cracking jokes full throttle which made him give me the sweetest expressions. Also, he'd get a bit embarassed in the begining when I said that this or that was "PERFECT! What a sweet smile! That's great, keep it up" but he soon got confident and very relaxed and the whole thing was just great from the begining to end. And by the end of the day my brother joined us, helping with security (another abandoned place) and lighting (I am nothing with my lighting assistants, seriously!)

So that's it, and I might share a few photos with you very soon :)

We've been losing Grandma for years. Stroke, after stroke. None large enough to stop her pain, all perfectly placed to pull her further and futher away from us and into her ailing body. Her brain has become a sharply divided territory. Her ability to communicate has been reduced to frustrated cries and nonsensical half-sentences. And though she rarely spoke Italian in her adult life, now she ocassionally comes out with near-perfect sentences in her mother's tongue. (Although I know there must be a neurological explanation for this phenomenon, I like to think that my great-grandmother, a woman she cherished & admired, is whispering comfort to her. Nothing the rest of us says seems to help much.)

She no longer reliably knows my name, but the sight of my face still brings a smile to hers. And when I tears started to roll down my cheeks, she sighed & said, "I know." A clarion moment in an otherwise tortured visit.

We lost her a long time ago, but we've never stopped loving her. I know we'll never get her back, so I just hope she finds peace soon.

(for Rose Civita, with love & hope. I long to hear your laughter.)

Nigella damascena (Love in the Mist)

Love in the Mist belongs to Ranunculales, the same plant family as the ‘Buttercup’. The flowers bloom in a variety of colours including white, pink and purple but it mainly blooms in different shades of blue. The plant produces seeds after the flowers bloom at the end of summer. If any of the plant is ingested, it can cause serious illness and may even cause death.

it takes a while to get this look

A mild and sunny Saturday in East-Westpahilia encouraged us to start our mill-project. Our area is covered with more than 40 mills, perfectly restored and maintenanced by volunteers. Our goal is to picture the most beautiful of them in the next couple of weeks. We finished the day with a breathtaking sunset lakeside in Bad Oeynhausen.
