Hazelnut and Catkin look on as Steph and I begin to pack for the Japan trip. (No, kitties, we can't bring you guys with us!) We leave on Sunday... so four days. Man oh man oh man, am I excited and nervous! It will be an adventure.

Nobelius & Co Nursery were a very famous business in the Hills and they owned a large estate near Emerald Lake. Their products were loaded into train from the Packing Shed and the associated siding for dispatch all around the State of Victoria.
Now the building has been restored into a function centre for use by the railway.

I'm really excited to get my Flickr going again because this semester, I'm studying abroad in London, England, for three months. I leave in eleven days and I have been so busy packing.
I just picked up a lovely 28-135mm lens at the local camera shop after reading several reviews that this is the best all-around travel lens. I cannot wait to try it out in Europe! I got a great deal because technically it was a "used lens," even though the first owner had it for only two weeks before he decided he wanted a longer zoom. With a student discount I got it for $230! It's in perfect condition...it still had the original bubble wrap and everything. I've been having fun playing around with it and so far... and I'm in love. The images are gorgeous, and this is coming from someone who only shoots prime lenses. I took this shot with my new lens, and I wouldn't have been able to guess it came from a zoom lens.
More recent purchases for my trip: A 16 GB CF Card (1,567 Raw Images, and I'm used to about 100), a one terabyte external hard drive (time to empty out my MacBook), a new camera case, and a soft pouch so I can carry my camera in my bag when I need to. My camera is getting spoiled!
Packing up the last bit of stuff into my luggage. I'm proud of myself that I'm only bringing back a couple of new things with me. :-)

Yesterday just seemed like one of those days when there were lots of packages
arriving on my doorstep. As I went through the boxes, I decided to take some of the
enclosed packing materials and stitch it all together in a multi layered ATC: vinyl & zipper (Pottery Barn) , brown kraft paper ( MisterArt) , string/wire ( local nursery).

Packing hand luggage can be an exercise in itself, it's important to pack only the essentials for travelling on the plane.

Packing herring barrels for shipment to the Baltic, a scene at Arbroath quay some 130 years ago. In the background is the slipway which was later utilised when the Lifeboat shed was built. In the herring season at that time Arbroath Harbour bustled with activity. The last time herring was landed in any quantity in Arbroath was 1953.
