Had to deliver a machine past Mareeba to a coffee plantation. They have now diversified to papayas. The admin section overlooks the packing so they kindly let me take a photo.
The Seattle Flickrites have a weekly challenge for a topic, and this week is 'Heat.' Many people will not remember that 'Heat' is a term used for a firearm, often called a 'Heater.' So, 'Packing Heat' means you would be carrying a concealed weapon.
My weapon of choice in this shoot was a Rock Island Armory Match Grade 1911-A1 semi-auto pistol. It carries 8 rounds in the magazine and 'one in the pipe.'

A vacuum packing machine is becoming increasingly popular as people are starting to buy large quantities of food. In the tough economic conditions of the present day, people are purchasing products in bulk quantities and reduced prices at stores, farmer markets and supermarkets in order to save money. With the intention to reduce the possibility of spoiling, you must either consume the food soon after you purchase it, or you need to store it. A vacuum packing machine can help store food for a long period of time in a safe and efficient manner. However, there are some disadvantages associated with a vacuum packing machine that need to be taken into consideration before purchasing.

First Sunday in August, and decent weather, inspired a trip to the Irvine Valley College monthly fleamarket. Having recently adopted a "If I can't wear it or eat it, I don't need it" mantra *, I came away with all of my money, and a few photos to share.
* Records are the only exception to the rule - but I rarely find albums reasonably priced at the flea markets - but I look anyway.
This would make a kick-ass name for a rock band, as well as killer artwork for their first album cover.

I’m preparing for my next journey and as I prepare, the main part of the preparation isn’t packing bags; it’s not trying to figure out how to get from place to place; it’s not even worrying about where I’ll stay. The main preparation for this has been trying to figure out how to tell you that I love and miss you and it not be just words.
You mean the world to me and you always will. You need to know that, son. You need to know that I have done everything in my power to get you back in my life, but there have been many things that have stopped me and still continue to stop me. Please don’t ever feel like I deserted you or that you weren’t good enough to be my son, because that is the furthest thing from the truth. You are an amazing little boy and will grow up to become a great man, who is destined to do remarkable things. I know it. I believe it.
Your dad is doing some things that might not make sense to some right now. I’m doing stuff that people might say isn’t “normal”. Son, you need to learn very early on (and I hope and pray that you do), that there is no such thing as “normal” and chasing after “normal” will get you absolutely nowhere in life. Be yourself at all costs. Do what your intuition tells you to do. Learn to ignore those that try to manipulate situations to make them appeal to you. You are smarter than the games that those people will play.
Son, life is hard, but it’s very livable. You can do it and you can do it and live it in a way that life isn’t just livable, but it’s lovable. Slow down and take it all in. Learn to appreciate the seemingly small things. Once you do that; the things that you once thought were big will become meaningless as the small things become what you live for.
You’re surrounded with people in this world; never get to the point of believing that you are alone or that you’re the only one that matters. You aren’t. The most important thing in the world is love and without anyone to love or to love you, you have nothing. You might have money in the bank and be surrounded with things that make you feel happy in the moment, but without people to celebrate these things with, you have nothing. Make as many connections with positive people as you can, challenge the things that you know are wrong in the world, and never ever give up on being the person you’re supposed to be and doing the things that YOU know you’re supposed to be doing.
I leave for this journey really soon. I am sacrificing a lot to be able to do it, but I know the outcome will be worth it. This journey, like everything I do, is dedicated to you. Just know that I love and miss you so much. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about and wonder how you are. I have faith that you’re being taken care of and I will continue to work to get you back in my life again soon. I promise. Until then; keep smiling, playing, and living every moment to the fullest. Life’s much better that way.

In preparation for CARES, PNNL staff pack up the radar wind profiler and sodar outside the Atmospheric Measurement Laboratory. These instruments measure wind speed and direction at different altitudes.

We follow a similar routine every morning, which includes spending about an hour packing medicines and vitamins for the day's clinic. These are all donated, and include painkillers, medicine for acid reflux, allergies, hypertension, some antibiotics, vitamin and mineral supplements. Often the medicine is inadequate when compared to our modern first world hospitals, but for these people it's the only choice they have.

I need to get some regular colored pencils...I tried using a bit of color on this...but since the are watercolor pencils, it mostly washed away with the paper of course.
