There's always a great sense of excitement every August in the weeks running up to the Lathalmond Bus and Transport rally near to Dunfermline in Fife.
Preparations are made with friends from far and near for the special occasion and the two day event never fails to deliver fun for all the family. This year once again my friend and enthusiast Peter Barclay came to visit and we met up with several others in Dunfermline to catch the special
vintage service to the formal naval base a few miles from the town. Some of the hills pose a few heavy moments for the old beasts doing the shuttle, providing many a memory for the older enthusiast especially!
Step onto the sacred ground of Lathalmond and suddenly you can forget everything else going on in your life...for a day anyway! There's just so much to see and do. Internal trips on a myriad of old and new vehicles, buses, cars, vintage trains and lorries too. An excellent announcement
service relayed in speakers all round the grounds are made, mostly by the eloquent voice of Gavin Booth no less. Hundreds of stalls of every bus and train memorabilia imaginable fill a complete hanger and there are museums and workhouses packed with information and nostalgia.
Everything is presented excellently and the week-end is a credit to the oganisers.

This PD2 is from a batch of ten, 161-70(CEO948-57), that were new to Barrow, in 10/1958. Two are preserved, this, and sister 169(CEO956), with the Barrow Transport Group, with 169 being restored in the later livery which is of more cream and therefore less blue. Sister 165(CEO952) is still in existence, albeit in open-top form with an open-rear staircase. 170, restored to original livery and fitted with coloured destination blinds which were a feature to Barrow Corporation Transport, is seen here at Grand Prix Coaches, Brough, Cumbria, about to for Kirkby Stephen(West) Railway Station when operating a heritage service for the Eden Classic Vehicle Weekend, on 31/03/2013. Behind is preserved Clydeside Scottish - RM835 WLT835, a Park Royal bodied AEC/PRV Routemaster R2RH. New to London Transport(RM835) in 07/1961, passing to Clydeside Scottish, in 1986, this nice example is preserved in Clydeside Scottish livery, having been one of the many Routemasters to have operated in the Glasgow area at de-regulation. © Peter Steel 2013.

1948 built Leyland Titan PD2 HFJ 144 takes part in the Exeter Twilight Buses event on the 11th November 2012. This was an Exeter City Transport bus up to 1970 when it was briefly owned by Devon General. The Exeter “Twilight” Vintage Bus Evening brings Exeter City Transport, Devon General and other historic buses back to the streets of Exeter after dark. Exeter bus and coach station was used as the hub of the event in the afternoon where most of the vehicles are parked prior to taking up their duties. There were some thirteen different routes organised for the vehicles to operate around Exeter. I always get lost on the roads when I have to drive in Exeter, and that's in daylight. I have no idea in the city where this photo was taken. Hopefully Paul Barlow will help me.
The most only thing of waiting for now is the waterslides from the fox's transfers and this bus will be updated soon.

When in the face of falling receipts, bus operators were forced to embrace One Man Operation (as it was then known), it left many traditional bomb-proof front engined double deckers redundant virtually overnight. In the light of such a waste of resources a few operators experimented with modifications which would allow this type of traditional bus to be used in the new manner. Of course any such arrangement was never going to be entirely successful but several persevered.
