August 2004: Several of LTT's vehicles were in resident at St Helens Transport Museum until 2004. Some had moved to Blackpool in 2003 but the two most delicate (Ribble 2687 and Blackpool 246) stayed put. The Museum finally could afford to replace its the defective roof which had caused its closure several years before and needed emptying. It thinned its collection and happily we were succesful in our bid for sole surviving rear entrance PD2 346 - seen here still in the yellow livery used by the Illuminations Department.
246 is alongside while we prepared it for its move to Blackpool. It was later towed round to the main building and then brought to Blackpool by low loader.
Known as salmon tins, this flush glazed batch of 35 Leyland bodied PD2/3's (3265-99) was delivered to MCTD between May 1951 and February 1952. The first 65 (3200-64) were MCW bodied to the Manchester streamlined style and all apart from 3224 passed to SELNEC PTE in November 1969.
This one appears to be JND 697 (3261) when quite new, so the pic is very likely circa 1952. It is working the trunk Manchester (Stevenson Square) - Hollinwood - Oldham - Waterhead route joint with Oldham. Oldham town centre looks pretty grim in this view where George St meets High St. The last tram passed in August 1946 but the track mostly remains among a patchwork of stone setts and tarmac.
This smart all-Leyland PD2 was new to West Riding, in 10/1948. It is seen here on the A638 Aldams Road, having just left Dewsbury Bus Station, when operating a heritage journey on a return trip to nearby Ravensthorpe, for the Dewsbury Bus Museum Open & Running Day on 17/11/2013. Apparently, this was the first day of carrying passengers for forty years after undergoing extensive restoration, which is a credit to her owners. Behind is Arriva Yorkshire, 1900 YJ58FHA, a Heckmondwike based ADL Trident 2 Enviro 400, new to Arriva Yorkshire West, in 10/2008. The smart green lined out livery of the PD2 contrasting with the drab turquoise livery of Arriva. © Peter Steel 2013.

Blackpool PD2/27 bus 330, Warbreck Hill Road, opposite Armadale Road, Blackpool N.S. November 1972
I seem to remember that the bus had slid down the hill on black ice and the driver Mick Pass managed to stop it just short of a large hole in the road. I was on my way to college at the time and just happened to have my camera with me.
1973 was my last year as a student conductor at BCT and this was one of the buses i worked on that summer season.
The bus was taken out of passenger use in May 1974 and was used as a DTV 1974 - June 1976. It left Blackpool Transport in July 1976

'89' RFE 416 Leyland Titan PD2-41 with ROE 61 Seat Body built in 1961. Lincoln Corporation purchased the very first Leyland Titan in 1927 (TD1 Chassis No 70001 ) and continued to buy Titans until 1968 (PD2-37) Since 1941 all Titans bought were bodied by Charles H Roe of Leeds, this being one of a batch of four delivered in 1961 and the last rear platform bus in service.
Withdrawn in 1977 it was quickly purchased for preservation and is displayed in the second livery style it carried by the mid 1960s. (It was delivered in a non standard colour scheme using a Leeds City Transport Green and a deep Cream). This model is to the traditional specification with a manual gearbox, vacuum brakes and is 7' 6" wide - most models particularly by the time this example was built were 8' wide.
I went to pick the kids up from school this afternoon, and as i approached the bus station I saw a red roof sticking up above the market hall, this is what was on the other side. So there I was no camera 2 kids and a PD2, thankfully, fellow flickrite sum micron was on hand to lend me his camera allowing me to get a couple of record shots.
