Taken at Worthing Bus Rally 25/7/2010. Leyland Titan PD3/4 with NCME convertible body in open top form is ex Southdown MS No 410 (410DCD) new in May 1964.
On the right is LRV992 Leyland PD2/12 with Metro-Cammell H30/26R body new in April 1956 as Portsmouth Corporation No 100, converted to open top and renumbered No 2.
This PD2 was from a batch of ten, 161-70(CEO948-57), new to Barrow, in 10/1958. Two are preserved, this and sister 170(CEO957) with the Barrow Transport Group and 165(CEO952) is still in existence, albeit in open-top form with an open-rear staircase. Seen here fuelling up on the A6 ,near Milnthorpe, while on it's way to a rally at Burtonwood. The bus is covered by the local North-West Evening Mail. I think this was a sponsorship for a local event. Photo taken in 05/1978.
The film used was a Boots Colourslide II, with a Halina 1000 camera.
I would request, as with all my photos, that they are not copied or downloaded in any way, shape or form. © Peter Steel 1978.

It was purchased for preservation in July 1973 in by the Mile Cross Transport Collection, and was purchased by the Leeds Regent Preservation Group in 1985 before passing to the Keighley Bus Museum Trust where this photograph was taken

This bus is working the special " PLA " service ,within the Royal Group of Docks . It ran from Royal Victoria Docks , (Just over the long footbridge from Custom House Station ) , to Manor way in King George V Docks .
It was ran irregularly for the benefit of PLA and other workers in the Docks .
At this time I worked for B R in the Royal Docks , Goods Offices , that were situated approximately behind where I took this shot from .
To put this in perspective .This is now where the EXCEL Centre is built .
( Don't get me going on the stories of my working time in the Docks for B R )
This all-Leyland PD2 was new to Southport Corporation in 1947 as fleet No.84. It was modified to convertible open-top in 1962 and passed to Merseyside PTE in 1974 becoming No.184.

August 2004: Several of LTT's vehicles were in resident at St Helens Transport Museum until 2004. Some had moved to Blackpool in 2003 but the two most delicate (Ribble 2687 and Blackpool 246) stayed put. The Museum finally could afford to replace its the defective roof which had caused its closure several years before and needed emptying. It thinned its collection and happily we were succesful in our bid for sole surviving rear entrance PD2 346 - seen here still in the yellow livery used by the Illuminations Department.
246 is alongside while we prepared it for its move to Blackpool. It was later towed round to the main building and then brought to Blackpool by low loader.
Known as salmon tins, this flush glazed batch of 35 Leyland bodied PD2/3's (3265-99) was delivered to MCTD between May 1951 and February 1952. The first 65 (3200-64) were MCW bodied to the Manchester streamlined style and all apart from 3224 passed to SELNEC PTE in November 1969.
This one appears to be JND 697 (3261) when quite new, so the pic is very likely circa 1952. It is working the trunk Manchester (Stevenson Square) - Hollinwood - Oldham - Waterhead route joint with Oldham. Oldham town centre looks pretty grim in this view where George St meets High St. The last tram passed in August 1946 but the track mostly remains among a patchwork of stone setts and tarmac.
This smart all-Leyland PD2 was new to West Riding, in 10/1948. It is seen here on the A638 Aldams Road, having just left Dewsbury Bus Station, when operating a heritage journey on a return trip to nearby Ravensthorpe, for the Dewsbury Bus Museum Open & Running Day on 17/11/2013. Apparently, this was the first day of carrying passengers for forty years after undergoing extensive restoration, which is a credit to her owners. Behind is Arriva Yorkshire, 1900 YJ58FHA, a Heckmondwike based ADL Trident 2 Enviro 400, new to Arriva Yorkshire West, in 10/2008. The smart green lined out livery of the PD2 contrasting with the drab turquoise livery of Arriva. © Peter Steel 2013.
