2011 Bring Your Own Big Wheel (BYOBW) race. Annual race held every year at 20th and Vermont Streets in San Francisco, California at 4pm on Easter Sunday.

Men, women & children, often in costumes, sign a waiver and race down the curves of Potrero Hill for free in homemade big wheels. An Easter event in SF like no other!

I own this Minolta lens MD 1:4 f=17mm since January 2020 but I did not used it too much beside some digital series (as this one : flic.kr/s/aHsmL8WMnJ ) when adapted to one of my Sony A7. The extreme wide-angle rectilinear lens needs some training to adapt during the photographic session. The angle is so wide (104° in the image diagonal) that it requires to turn the head around the scene to imagine the picture possible before framing.

On December 19, 2022, I decided to mount the lens on one of my two Minolta X-700, the "China" version (assembled in China 1993-1999). The camera was also equipped with its motor drive MD1 and the Minolta multi-function back. I loaded the X-700 with a B&W super-panchromatic Rollei Retro 400S (Agfa Aviphot 400) 36-exposure film.

The Agfa Aviphot film used for aerial photography is specially sensitized in the red, up to 780nm in the near IR instead of the regular 650-680 nm limit of a normal panchromatic film. The film provides usually high-definition and high-contrast negative views. What is more the Agfa Aviphot is coated on a thin and flat polyester base without any base color increasing the contrast as well. However to prevent the halation possible the Agfa Aviphot is coated on the backside with a black and blue anti-halation pigment to inhibit the light back diffusion (halation). The printing of data from a data back could be then a problem. I tested here the date print on the first initialization frame setting the intensity to the maximum available on the Minolta multi-function back (there are 6 levels of intensity available). The anti-halation is quite penetrated by the red light of the electro-luminescent diodes and a half intensity may be just enough.

On the almost same photo walk done on December 14, 2022 with my range-finder FOCA PF2B and its normal lens, the film was exposed for 400 ISO in the manual mode following either the Minolta X-700 indications or determining the exposure using my Minolta Autometer III and a 10° finder for selective measurements.

After exposures the film was processed using Adox Adonal (strictly equivalent to Agfa Rodinal) developer at dilution 1+25, 20°C for 10min 30s. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were then processed in LR and finally edited to the final jpeg pictures.

All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg.

She was inspired to write 40 books during this time whilst tending to the two acre garden.

The gardens are a series of formal, modern and naturalistic ones all joined up by wonderful curling pathways and beautiful views. Meander through the Cottage Garden, the Lavender Terrace, the Formal Garden, the Rose Walk and the Water Garden, all of which are teeming with wildlife. The gardens feature in the Most Amazing Gardens in Britain and Ireland and also The Good Gardens Guide.

Enid Blyton called the Old Thatch 'home' and spent many a happy afternoon watching the garden wrens flit in and out of a wonderful old yew hedge feeding their young.

Please note - the gardens are now permanently closed to the public.

A privately owned historic house that became a hotel in 1856. It stands on the site of grand Royal Palaces of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The great cedar tree was planted by Charles I to celebrate the birth of his son, Henry of Otelands.

It is the perfect site for weddings. On the odd occasion being there, I noticed weddings going on (only there for family get togethers every couple of years)

Blackberry is owned by Jim and Michelle Brackett. They are a unquie feline breed called Scottish Fold.

The Scottish Fold is a breed of cat with a natural dominant-gene mutation that makes its ear cartilage contain a fold, causing the ears to bend forward and down towards the front of their head, which gives the cat what is often described as an "owl-like" appearance.

Originally called lop-eared or just lops after the lop-eared rabbit, Scottish Fold became the breed's name in 1966. Depending on registries, longhaired Scottish Folds are varying known as Highland Fold, Scottish Fold Longhair, Longhair Fold and Coupari.

A visit to the National Trust owned Flatford Mill in Suffolk.

Flatford Mill is a Grade I listed watermill on the River Stour at Flatford in East Bergholt, Suffolk, England. According to the date-stone the mill was built in 1733, but some of the structure may be earlier. Attached to the mill is a 17th-century miller's cottage which is also Grade I listed. The property is in Dedham Vale, a typically English rural landscape.

The mill was owned by the artist John Constable's father and is noted, along with its immediate surroundings as the location for many of Constable's works. It is referred to in the title of one of his most iconic paintings, Flatford Mill (Scene on a Navigable River), and mentioned in the title or is the subject of several others including: Flatford Mill from a lock on the river Stour; Flatford Mill from the lock (A water mill); The Lock. The Hay Wain, which features Willy Lott's Cottage, was painted from the front of the mill.

The mill is located downstream from Bridge Cottage which, along with neighbouring Valley Farm and Willy Lott's Cottage, are leased to the Field Studies Council, a group that uses them as locations for arts, ecology and natural history based courses.

Before we went on a guided tour of Flatford Mill, we popped into the RSPB Wildlife Garden. It was lightly raining on and off.

Bone Suckin’ Corned Beef & Cabbage

This is a great way to corn your own beef naturally. No preservatives!

Prep Time: 7 to 8 days

Cook Time: 6 hrs.

Ingredients:

Bone Suckin’ Hot Seasoning & Rub, 3 Tbsp.

Bone Suckin’ Sauce, 1 cupWater, 6 cupsBeef Brisket, 6 to 8 lbs., “flat cut” (ask your butcher), with some fat on

Cabbage, 1 head quartered (optional)

Sea Salt, 1 cup

Brown Sugar, 1 cup

Pickling Spices, ¼ cup

Lager Beer, 2 (12) bottles

Directions:

In a large resealable container or roasting pan, pour water and 1 bottle of beer. Add salt and sugar and let sit until they are dissolved. Mix in pickling spices. Pierce brisket all over with a sharp knife. Place brisket in container and weight down, (I weighted the meat down with bowls), cover and refrigerate for 7 to 8 days. Turn meat once a day to ensure brine is getting to all the meat. When brining process is done, rinse meat with cold water and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Brisket may be stored like this for up to 2 days.

To cook, place meat (and cabbage, if so desired) in a slow cooker and pour Bone Suckin’ Sauce, 1 bottle of beer and cover completely with water. Set slow cooker on high setting and cook for 6 hours.

Cut corned beef against the grain in ¼ inch strips and serve with cabbage on the side. Makes great sandwich meat, with Bone Suckin’ Hot/Sweet Mustard for Reuben’s.

Cooks note: This processing method is natural way of corning beef. The beef will not be pink like most corned beef, but will taste the same. Serves 6.

I just have been bothered with the white background each time I see it and tried to make it a little better to my eye. Problem for me is, when i try to crop too tight, I lose some of the petal magic on the outer edges and the rose becomes less identifiable as such.

I did grow this rose in my back yard but the rose design was a fluke. Or better, a nice little gesture by the Designer, I think. ;)

I decided not to replace the original photo because of all the comments attached as well as it's "Interestingness" rating. I wanted to let it continue to stand on its own, but I have been wanting to crop it forever!

We made our own sushi on the weekend. Was one of the best parties ever. The food was excellent.
