I attend a small, tribally owned community college called Bay Mills Community College, located in Bay Mills/Brimley, MI. At BMCC, we are fortunate enough to be involved with a program called TRiO Student Support Services. In essence, along with offering tutoring and financial assistance, TRiO also offers students opportunities to do things that they might not otherwise be able to do. I have been to broadway plays, spent five days in Washington D.C., and three days in Chicago.... all expenses paid. Their goal is to help broaden our horizons.This is a VERY rural area and to be blunt, most people in this community are not very well off. Therefore, many of us have not had opportunities to do or see things that many other people are able to do on a regular basis. One of those things is the ability to attend a university. They regularly take us on trips called transfer trips. We tour larger colleges/universities and speak with former BMCC/TRiO students who have succeeded at transferring to larger institutions.
This photo was taken in the Native American Center at Lake Superior State University on one of our tours. This painting is by a man named Peter G.Migwans. Although I was not able to get his permission to post these, I do plan on giving him full credit for his work. His paintings are so beautiful and the colors are so vivid, I just HAD to post them.
I own this Minolta lens MD 1:4 f=17mm since January 2020 but I did not used it too much beside some digital series (as this one : flic.kr/s/aHsmL8WMnJ ) when adapted to one of my Sony A7. The extreme wide-angle rectilinear lens needs some training to adapt during the photographic session. The angle is so wide (104° in the image diagonal) that it requires to turn the head around the scene to imagine the picture possible before framing.
On December 19, 2022, I decided to mount the lens on one of my two Minolta X-700, the "China" version (assembled in China 1993-1999). The camera was also equipped with its motor drive MD1 and the Minolta multi-function back. I loaded the X-700 with a B&W super-panchromatic Rollei Retro 400S (Agfa Aviphot 400) 36-exposure film.
The Agfa Aviphot film used for aerial photography is specially sensitized in the red, up to 780nm in the near IR instead of the regular 650-680 nm limit of a normal panchromatic film. The film provides usually high-definition and high-contrast negative views. What is more the Agfa Aviphot is coated on a thin and flat polyester base without any base color increasing the contrast as well. However to prevent the halation possible the Agfa Aviphot is coated on the backside with a black and blue anti-halation pigment to inhibit the light back diffusion (halation). The printing of data from a data back could be then a problem. I tested here the date print on the first initialization frame setting the intensity to the maximum available on the Minolta multi-function back (there are 6 levels of intensity available). The anti-halation is quite penetrated by the red light of the electro-luminescent diodes and a half intensity may be just enough.
On the almost same photo walk done on December 14, 2022 with my range-finder FOCA PF2B and its normal lens, the film was exposed for 400 ISO in the manual mode following either the Minolta X-700 indications or determining the exposure using my Minolta Autometer III and a 10° finder for selective measurements.

After exposures the film was processed using Adox Adonal (strictly equivalent to Agfa Rodinal) developer at dilution 1+25, 20°C for 10min 30s. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were then processed in LR and finally edited to the final jpeg pictures.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg.

Wednesday August 14th 2019 Ferguslie Tannahill Centre Own Yer Bike Inaugural Meeting No1.
Today saw the Ferguslie Community Council join forces with “Own Yer Bike” a local group that was set up by Marc Small, himself a community council leader. Who along with their youth members nominated members to positions such as chair person etc as part of their mission statement agenda?
The group have already given away and sold many bikes salvaged and repaired in what could be one of Ferguslie parks local action groups’ success. Only last week the group held an event in and around the Tannahill Centre, that saw a large turnout of adults and children alike, which prompted the Daily Express to splash the story over their centre pages.
Though still in its infancy the group have made contacts far and wide, where they hope to maintain and repair other group’s bikes while their main aim is to get kids off the couch and on their bikes for a healthier lifestyle.
So if you’re looking for a kid’s bike or would love to get involved in any if not all of Ferguslies many groups. You can find Own Your Bike on Facebook, or just pop into the Tannahill Centre for more info and find out what’s going on in your neighbourhood.
Yay! Okay I'm so excited, I finally started the process of making my own website. This website is just temporary until I can get my website building software (dreamweaver cs4). Eventually the website will have custom graphics and an integrated paypal shopping cart. Hopefully I will have that done by the end of the month. I will be doing all of the coding and designing myself except for the graphics. I also made this temporary website.

Widya actually has her own space on the first floor on the right, the mom, grandma, aunty and cousin live in the left side with the two stories. i think the house also extends further in the back. it was kind of hard to tell where one house began ended. they leave the doors open during the day too because it's hot, and that evening one cat kept coming in. it would enter through upstairs then come down and we would chase it out the front door. seemed like it was a common occurrence.
Rievaulx Abbey was a Cistercian abbey in Rievaulx, situated near Helmsley in the North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, England. It was one of the great abbeys in England until it was seized under Henry VIII of England in 1538 during the dissolution of the monasteries. The striking ruins of its main buildings are a tourist attraction, owned and maintained by English Heritage.

Rievaulx Abbey was the first Cistercian monastery in the north of England, founded in 1132 by twelve monks from Clairvaux Abbey.
Its remote location was well suited to the order's ideal of a strict life of prayer and self-sufficiency with little contact with the outside world. The abbey's patron, Walter Espec, also founded another Cistercian community, that of Wardon Abbey in Bedfordshire, on unprofitable wasteland on one of his inherited estates.
The first abbot of Rievaulx, St William I, started construction in the 1130s. The second abbot, Saint Aelred of Rievaulx, elected in 1147, expanded the buildings and otherwise consolidated the existence of what with time became one of the great Cistercian abbeys of Yorkshire, second only to Fountains Abbey in fame. Under Aelred, the abbey is said to have grown to some 140 monks and 500 lay brothers. By the end of his tenure, Rievaulx had five daughter-houses in England and Scotland.
The abbey lies in a wooded dale by the River Rye, sheltered by hills. The monks diverted part of the river several yards to the west in order to have enough flat land to build on. They altered the river's course twice more during the 12th century. The old course is visible in the abbey's grounds. This is an illustration of the technical ingenuity of the monks, who over time built up a profitable business mining lead and iron, rearing sheep and selling wool to buyers from all over Europe. Rievaulx Abbey became one of the greatest and wealthiest in England, with 140 monks and many more lay brothers. It received grants of land totalling 6,000 acres (24 km²) and established daughter houses in England and Scotland.
By the end of the 13th century the abbey had incurred debts on its building projects and lost revenue due to an epidemic of sheep scab (psoroptic mange). The ill fortune was compounded by raiders from Scotland in the early 14th century. The great reduction in population caused by the Black Death in the mid-14th century made it difficult to recruit new lay brothers for manual labour. As a result, the abbey was forced to lease much of its land. By 1381 there were only fourteen choir monks, three lay brothers and the abbot left at Rievaulx, and some buildings were reduced in size.
By the 15th century the Cistercian practices of strict observance according to the Rule of Saint Benedict had been abandoned in favour of a more comfortable lifestyle. The monks were permitted to eat meat, and more private living accommodation was created for them, and the abbot had a substantial private household in what had once been the infirmary.
At the time of its dissolution in 1538, the abbey was said to consist of 72 buildings occupied by the abbot and 21 monks, with 102 lay employees, and an income of £351 a year. The abbey owned a prototype blast furnace at Laskill, producing cast iron as efficiently as a modern blast furnace.
As was standard procedure, the confiscated monastic buildings were rendered uninhabitable and stripped of valuables such as lead. The site was granted to the Earl of Rutland, one of Henry's advisers, until it passed to the Duncombe family. In the 1750s Thomas Duncombe III beautified his estate by building the terrace with two Grecian-style temples. They are in the care of the National Trust. The abbey ruins are in the care of English Heritage.

Presented by Kurdistan Art & Culture, Community Arts North West and North West Playwrights
A new play devised by Kurdistan Art and Culture, a group of Kurdish artists in exile in Greater Manchester, and scripted by lead actress Bhean Ali. One Night There draws on the performers’ own experiences of life in Kurdistan and in exile and creates a wider exploration of the pressures faced by women in contemporary society.
The piece was originally performed in Kurdish at CAN’s Tower of Babel event in March 2010. This English language version has been developed especially for Exodus Onstage by playwright Crystal Stewart, in collaboration with Bhean Ali and Kurdistan Arts and Culture.
In July this year the group returned to Iraq to perform the play at several venues in the Kurdish Autonomous Region, where it provoked great interest and discussion.
