Was built in 1856 by the English company The Arica & Tacna Railway Co. It is currently the only international railway owned by Peru and is the oldest railway still in service, as it was the second to be built, during the government of Ramón Castilla.

Arica is one of the terminal stations of the Tacna-Arica Railway. It is located next to the pier serving Peru and is the starting point of the railway line to Tacna, which is operated by the Regional Government of Tacna. It is located 3 meters above sea level.

History:

The Tacna-Arica Railway was built in 1856 by the English company The Arica & Tacna Railway Co. It has five bridges: San José, Chacalluta, Gallinazo, Hospicio, Lagartito and six stations: Arica, Chacalluta, Escritos, Hospicio, Kilómetro 42 and Tacna.

As one of the terminal stations and one of the most important on the line, it appears in all publications on the subject, for example those by José Olayo López in 1910, Santiago Marín Vicuña in 1916, and also appears on official Chilean maps from 1929.

In December 1986, the construction of the new building for the Arica terminal station, which houses it to this day, was completed. By means of Act No. 12-2005 of 2005 of the Tacna Regional Government, the Tacna-Arica railway, the Chinchorro land and the Yanulaque House became the property of the Tacna Regional Government, to be used for development purposes in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

The classic postcard of the train and the Arica hill as a backdrop, a scene that cannot be missed.

The southernmost tourist railway in our country and the second oldest in operation is currently managed by the Regional Government of Tacna, the city from which it departs to reach Arica (Chile), after traveling 62 kilometers.

But its history is also as extensive. Built by the English company Arica & Tacna Railway Co. and put into service in 1856 during the government of Marshal Ramón Castilla, the Tacna-Arica train is the second oldest railway in Peru that is still in service. The train was then given in concession to said construction company for 99 years.

In 1869, President José Balta ordered that studies be made for its extension to the city of La Paz (Bolivia), which was never carried out.

During the Pacific War, after the Chilean occupation of Peruvian territory, the railway was not expropriated and the concession granted by the Peruvian government to the English company was respected.

With the Treaty of Lima, signed in 1929, Tacna was returned to Peruvian territory and the section of the railway that was on the Chilean side also became Peruvian property with Chilean territorial sovereignty.

In 1955, when the Tacna-Arica railway was nationalized, it became the sole property of the Peruvian State. In December 1986, the construction of the new building for the terminal station in the city of Arica was completed.

Fifty years later, in 2005, the dock serving Peru in the Chilean port of Arica, the Tacna-Arica railway, the Chinchorro land and the Yanulaque House became the property of the Regional Government of Tacna for use for socioeconomic development purposes in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

In 2013, the recovery and sustainable use of the Tacna-Arica railway, the Peruvian dock in Arica and the Chinchorro land were declared to be of national interest and public necessity, with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) assuming the role of grantor.

A year later, the call for studies to improve the railway transport service on the Tacna-Arica section was launched. In July 2014, the studies were awarded to the Spanish company Idom Engineering and Consulting.

The renovation and improvement works on the international railway began in February 2015 and since August of that year, test runs have been carried out with the existing railcar.

The entry of the train into Chilean territory is coordinated by the Foreign Ministries of both countries. Railway passengers are subject to immigration control by the Peruvian and Chilean Immigration Offices at the Tacna and Arica stations.

In addition to the Tacna and Arica terminals, the Tacna-Arica train route covers the San José, Chacalluta, Gallinazo, Hospicio and Lagartito bridges on its 62-kilometer route.

Historia:

There is no quick fix....step up, be honest, swallow your pride, call your sponsor, eat, sleep, play, make love, work in the yard, play music, make some art, cook something yummy, clean up your house, wash clothes, take a bubble bath, take a long hot shower, shave your legs, put on fresh make up, change your clothes....whatever it takes to make your life bearable...and never be afraid to tell people to back the fuck off when they are trying to tell you how to work your program. We are all unique and need to embrace our visions for our own lives. Love who is lovable and kick the rest of the fuckers to the curb...but remember to pray for them, maybe they will come around with God's help. It's not your job to make everyone else ok!!!

Personal: After trading the ES339 for the '81 LP silverburst I no longer had a hollow-body. My mgr at work bought this new and had Gibson 57 Classic pickups put on it along with a Gibson bridge. This guitar has a nice throaty, smooth sound and plays very nicely.

Hardly played it and wound up selling it back to the original owner.

Update: just traded to get it back again.
