We taught a special robot class for adults and teens at Tam Makers, to show them how to create their own artistic robot. This 2-part evening course took took place in our makerspace at Tam High School in Mill Valley.
Our four students learned how to build their bots from scratch, then make them move in a different ways, using a programmable Arduino board. Each student received their own robot kit, which they learned to assemble and control. They first built a chassis, then wired up the electronics, assembled a remote control, then added a head and arms, with servo motors to make them move.
They then took their completed robots home with them, after the class ended. Now that their bots are assembled and operational, we hope they will learn how to program them and make them move in different ways. We have invited them to join our weekly Maker Club workshops on Thursdays, so we can coach them on how to keep improving their bots.
For this course, my partner Edward Janne and I created our own robot kit, using an Arduino Feather M0 for the robot, an RF remote, a custom chassis, plus three additional servos and more parts. Our robot kit is similar to commercial products, but with a lot more features, at a lower cost. It was a lot of work, but we’re very happy with the final results, and our students seemed to really enjoy the class. We hope this will encourage other teachers, students and makers to create their own animated characters, for art and technology’s sake.

Dr Helmut Marko is unhappy with the management of Red Bull's own Formula 1 circuit in Spielberg. This week, Renault is testing a two-year-old car at the Red Bull Ring, which will be the scene of the first two post-corona races beginning next month.
Red Bull's Marko is not happy that the circuit's management, called Projekt Spielberg, opened its doors to the former Red Bull engine supplier. "It was a great achievement by Projekt Spielberg that they rented the track to a competitor team," he told Speed Week, sarcastically.
"Let's just say that it was a generous gesture." It is believed that Red Bull-Honda is unable to test a two-year-old F1 car because of its poor relationship with former engine supplier Renault who has been reluctant to provide an engine and related services to facilitate such testing by the Red Bull F1 team. Without a doubt this will put more stress on the already very fragile relation between Renault and Red Bull Racing.
Alpha Tauri is therefore running a 2018 Honda-powered Toro Rosso car at Imola next week. It is believed Max Verstappen and Alex Albon could join the Alpha Tauri drivers in getting turns behind the wheel to at least get some time on the circuit.

Heinens, Inc. is a family-owned and operated regional supermarket chain in Northeast Ohio and in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. Heinen's was founded in 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio when Joe Heinen opened a small meat market on Kinsman Road (now called Chagrin Boulevard). After running the store for a few years, Joe opened his first supermarket across the street from the original butcher shop in 1933. By 2014, the company, known as Heinen's Fine Foods, was headed by twin brothers, Tom and Jeff Heinen, Joe's twin grandsons.
In September, 2013 it was announced that the company was in the final stages of negotiation with the Geis Companies for a 15-year lease on space in the Ameritrust Tower at the corner of East 9th Street and Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. The company was reported to have had a long-standing interest in the downtown area and had come close to a deal for space in a major development on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River just prior to the start of the Great Recession. Company leadership, while acknowledging the risks associated with the deal, was hopeful that the population in the downtown area would continue its recent upward trend and further solidify the new store's customer base. This location, occupying the first two floors of the building and the first floor of the neighboring Swetland Building, opened February 25, 2015.

these are all the Vapor skates i've owned. first one i had was the Vapor V (i think the 2004 model) on the right. the fit of those skates isn't as good anymore so i only wear them occasionally when my other skates are being sharpened. the XXXX's are in semi-retirement until i can get another pair. so that just leaves the XXV as my current full-time skate.
Driving with Serena and her mom. Camera was in the back seat. She picked it up, took off the lens cap, and started taking pics. Then we stopped to look at some 4-legged kids.
Not yet 6 years old. I think she did great! Can't wait to show her these. I did not edit them in any way. When we got to the goats, I put the camera on auto.
Crystal Brook.
Kupsch family owned and run bakery was established in 1963 and is especially known for its pasties. These days their range includes kranskies, chicken and leek pies, sausage rolls and sweet pastries, cakes and Kitchener buns. A possible relative was August Kupsch who took up land at Tarcowie in 1879. Other relatives lived at Laura and at Stone Hut for decades. A member of the family took over the aerated water and cordial factory in Gladstone in 1939 and from 1940 a grocery and confectionary business in Gladstone.
Surveying of the land known as the Crystal Brook run for agriculture began in 1872 but it was March 1873 before the Hundred of Crystal Brook was declared. So high was the optimism that some land sold for £2 or £3 per acre instead of the usual £1 per acre. This was a good windfall for the government. The government began work on the Port Pirie to Crystal Brook railway in early 1874 so it would reach the district by harvest time in late 1874. The cost of this railway was over £28,000 which included a bridge across the Crystal Brook : the bridge was being shipped from England. By mid 1874 local farmers were calling for a town to be surveyed. The Crystal Brook township blocks were sold at auction on 14 January 1875. They sold for between £4 and £52 a block for the 337 town allotments which all sold. The town grew phenomenally fast in the first few years. The railway from Port Pirie did not arrive in time for the 1874 harvest as it took another two years to reach the town. It opened in December 1875 north of Crystal Brook town beside the creek and it crossed the new bridge into the town in April 1876. Its arrival in 1876 sealed a prosperous future of the town. The line was then continued on to Gladstone and to Peterborough by 1880. Many public buildings were erected in the years between 1877 and 1880. Construction work on the first hotel began in February 1875. A general store opened in February 1875. A stone government school was completed in 1877 as was the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Adelaide Square. The square is located at the end of Bowman Street, named after the owners of the Crystal Brook run until 1872 when the government resumed it. Like Adelaide, Crystal Brook is also surrounded by parklands, although these have been used for development in places. In the 1870s SA government towns were surveyed with north, south, east and west terraces and a grid street pattern like Adelaide but only one or two were ever surveyed with a central park like Victoria Square in Adelaide. Crystal Brook, however was an exception as the government had such high hopes for the expansion and growth of Crystal Brook. The railway line divided the town into two parts with the western housing beyond the parkland belt.
The old bakery in Crystal Brook is now the National Trust Museum. It has unique underground baking ovens which were built behind the two storey building in 1881. The fine two storey house and shop in front was erected for Mr Hewett in 1875, the first year of the town’s existence. Initially it was a butcher’s shop but also a bakers from 1881. In 1900 it changed hands and was only a bakery and tea rooms as Mr Hewett opened a butcher’s shop in Port Wakefield. From 1911 to 1974 it was a grocer’s shop. It was saved from demolition by the local National Trust group in 1977. Some sources say it was built in 1870 but this is impossible as the town was not surveyed with town blocks until January 1875 and in 1870 this was part of the Bowman’s sheep run.
Growth of the town was based on its industrial development and the employment opportunities this provided. The first blacksmith was started by John & Robert Forgan who had learnt their trades with James Martin of Gawler. Their Crystal Brook foundry and implement works began operations in 1878. In 1884 the business expanded following the death of Robert. John also opened a branch in Port Pirie in 1902. The firm was still operating in 1973 when the town centenary history was written. The first flour mill was built on the corner of Railway Terrace and Cunningham Street in 1880. The flour mill burnt down in 1905 but the chaff mill part of the operations continued until the 1920s when it too burnt down. It was replaced by a motor vehicle dealership and garage. But the biggest employer in the town was the SA government. In 1885 construction of the Beetaloo Dam, upstream on the Rocky River commenced. The government based its headquarters for the construction team in Crystal Brook. Once this project was completed work began on the Bundaleer reservoir in 1898. This was connected to the Beetaloo system. All the engineers and other workers for water in the mid north were based in Crystal Brook. Next the Baroota Reservoir was started in 1921. The Engineering and Water Supply (E & W S) office has thus been in Crystal Brook since 1892. Since the 1950s Crystal Brook has been the regional head office for E & W S with over 100 employed in the department’s workshops and offices. They are still located on the edge of Adelaide Square. The Highways Department has also had regional headquarters in Crystal Brook since 1943. In the 1970s this department employed 110 people in Crystal Brook. The railways were the other major government employer in the town before the rail standardisation of 1970 which saw the old station complex demolished. Today Crystal Brook has a population of 1,300.
Mooresville, NC - It was a bit of a special weekend for Detroit Speed. For the first time in a while the hauler wasn't zipping across the country for an event. The event was in our own backyard at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Optima and their "Search for the Ultimate Street Car" series invaded Charlotte, NC and it couldn't have gone better for Detroit Speed and Detroit Speed equipped cars. Kyle Tucker and the Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro Test Car came away with first overall in the GTV class while Bryan Johnson, driving his DSE "Equipped" 2013 5th Gen Camaro, took home top honors in the GT class. DSE was also represented by Ryan Mathews in the 5th Gen Camaro Test Car while Stacy Tucker wheeled the DSE 2008 FR500S Mustang during the events.

Not to be outdone, Kyle followed that up with the 2nd fastest autocross time of the event in the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car. The Speed Stop was a bit different than usual, with it being held on the drag strip at Z-Max.
Following a full day of racing the road rally took off from Z-Max and ended with the Holley Welcome Party at Detroit Speed. There was music, food, prizes and much more with the shops open for all competitors to enjoy including some homemade ice cream for dessert.
Sunday was all about the road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The infield road course had all new asphalt and a new configuration with 60 feet of elevation change over the length of the course. On my own wedding day, I took my camera to take my own memories.
As I also had a new camera, I wanted to see what sort of wedding results I would get.
I wasn't using a speedlight and only had the 18-135mm STM (kit) lens, so I am somewhat happy with the results. Even with some shots having high levels of grain.

BUWAN NG WIKA 2016
By: Julienne Allyah C. Legutan
Every August, Franciscans always celebrate Buwan ng Wika. It is where students dedicate the whole month in remembering, sharing and giving value to our own language. This celebration helps us to show how nationalistic we are. This year’s theme was “Wikang Filipino: Wika ng Karunungan”. Our school has prepared a lot of activities for the students. First, there was a Daglitasan where each level has one representative. They were presented with two questions to answer. All of them did a good job as through their answer, they help spread the definition and importance of the Filipino Language. The daglitasan was a good way to know everyone’s opinion and at the same time, it teaches the students the value of our language.
On August 26, 2016, we held the Buwan ng Wika Celebration for the high school students. There was also a performance by each level. Their performances consists of a cultural and contemporary dance that everyone surely enjoyed. Their performances symbolized how diverse and unique our country is. It is truly touching to witness students, who are the youth today, perform traditional dances that define and show our rich culture. That just means that even though we continue to become modernized as years go by, we still look back at the past, our culture, and our traditions. This is what exactly we are instilling in every Filipino in this country.
Aside from the daglitasana and cultural performances, who would forget the Lakan and Lakambini competition? Each level has representatives. Each level representative wore their national costume, formal wear and performed well for the talent portion. The question and answer portion tested the contestants’ knowledge regarding our country and our language. Their confidence, poise, and nationalism makes them stand out. But just like stars in the night sky, there will always be one who will shine the most. Alvin Jan Diaz of Grade 10-Einstein was the Lakan 2016 and Donita Mae Manlunas of Grade 8-Aristotle was crowned the Lakambini 2016. There was also a Food Raffle hosted by the Student Council. Cakes, pizza, doughnuts, gift checks from the standards were the prizes donated by sponsors. The Student Council was thankful for them. The students enjoyed the raffle draw especially the lucky winners.
Students are not only students; they were the citizens of the country first. It is truly right for us to celebrate Buwan ng Wika. Through this celebration, we are taken back to the past as we relive and unfold our country’s wonderful traditions. We give importance to our language as it was part of our culture. Jose Rizal once said, “The youth is the hope of this country”. The future of our country lies on our hands, We need to give value and importance to our country now that we are still young. Above all, the Buwan ng Wika celebration allows us to become not only better students, but better citizens of our country.

Nature's own tree-hugger!
And yes, I know it looks like one of those Bigfoot hoax images, but the bear had just sprinted from the open field to the right, probably because there were so many of us photographers snapping pictures yards away.
The first strange pic taken with my new Finepix S5100! My friend Sarah just seems to pop right out of the pic, it's kinda' creepy... But hey, these things happen. Especially when taking pics in a hurry, while cold. :D
Yes, I know I've been without a camera for a VERY long time now... However, I'm definitely back now, thanks to Creativity+ (aka Tim) and my luck stumbling upon selling a great camera. He's gotten some really great pics with this thing, so go check his profile out, and see what the camera can do in the hands of someone who actually knows what they're doing lol!

If astronomy had its own Academy Awards, then this part of the Milky Way would have been the Favorite Nebula pick for 2011. Competing against 12,263 other slices of the sky, this got more votes from the 35,000 volunteers searching for cosmic bubbles than any other location.
The volunteers are all citizen scientists working on the Milky Way Project, scanning a vast collection of infrared images from NASAs Spitzer Space Telescope. Their goal is to identify bubbles that have been blown into gas and dust by stars forming in our Milky Way galaxy. The volunteers study image after image, drawing circles around possible bubbles. Together their efforts have produced a catalog of more than 5,000 bubbles, 10 times what was known before.
While scrutinizing each of the images, the volunteers can to bookmark favorite areas. The bright yellow-red nebula at the center of this image garnered the most votes.Interestingly this nebula, which is in the constellation of Scutum, has no common name since it is hidden behind dust clouds. It takes an infrared telescope like Spitzer, which sees beyond the visible spectrum of light, to see through this dark veil and reveal this spectacular hidden nebula.
We are seeing stars in the process of forming within this audience-favorite nebula, as well in the surrounding areas in this image.

Come make your own art, tech or woodworking project at Tam Makers!
Every week, we host a ‘Maker Club’, an open workshop for adults and teens in our makerspace at Tam High School. Club members like to ‘show and tell’ their latest projects, and bring their own materials to build new projects, with guidance from our staff and other community members.
Many of our members are experienced makers, who are happy to share what they know. Some of the cool maker projects we have built in our makerspace include a graceful robot spider, an eagle god with creepy eyes, an Arduino-powered garage opener, a Wifi server on a chip, and more.
If you are interested in creating your own maker project with the help of others, join our Maker Clubs!

Respecto a ti: te extraño.
Nada más que decir. Ah sí, según mi hermana de cuatro años estoy "triste, sola y gorda". Ajajajaj, dios, apoyo moral y ése. Después de ese constructivo comentario me iré a vomitar un rato (?) xd
