Huntington Beach State Park includes Atalaya, a vast 1930s Moorish-style castle, was the home of the Huntingtons, who once owned the land. The castle is unfurnished, except for a few closets, cabinets and plumbing and kitchen appliances. I was amazed to see how plain this mansion was, even though it is huge. Mrs Huntington was a sculptor and was much more concerned about space and lighting than she was about fancy furnishings.
The Jetsons might have stopped by here in the 50s. The tower had just been built, the land was covered for miles in every direction by lush orange trees, grapefruit fragrant with sting....
Owned by the National Railway Musuem and having been restored by the LMS Carriage Association LMS Period 1 Third Open, 7828 is now in use on Peak Rail dining and cream tea services.

On land owned by John Murray, this small building opened early 1840s. Difficulties with supply of ministers led to Rev H L Tuck, Baptist minister from Gumeracha, being asked to take services 1851-1865.
Meanwhile, 2½ miles away, John Warren of Springfield built a church linked to the Church of Scotland. Large enough to hold 150 people, it opened Feb 1851. Rev James Roddick from Scotland was inducted 2 Nov 1863. A meeting in 1865 sought to unite the Springfield & Murray Vale congregations, without success.
In August 1866, after using a schoolroom for 18 months, Roddick opened a church in the town of Mount Pleasant. In Oct 1866 the Springfield church was damaged by an earthquake, was declared unsafe, fell into disuse and no longer exists.
Services continued at Murray Vale until Jan 1879 when a devastating bushfire swept through the district destroying property owned by Murray, Warren and many others. The shingle roof, doors & windows of the small church were burnt and not repaired.
From June 11, 2022: Today, in the @beyourownbeloved challenge I’ve been working through, we have permission to pause and reflect on whatever is going on in our lives... So this reflection is more like what I usually do here with my daily selfies. And I admit that the last few weeks have seen me #slip again. But I have taken steps to hopefully put the brakes on another free-fall.
I had an assessment with @kwantlenu counselling to get back to regular sessions, which are so needed.
I had a complete physical #examination with my primary care physician, and was sent for blood work.
I got a new set of #prescriptions for my #anxiety, #depression, #diabetes, and high blood pressure. I’m nervous about taking these again though - most notably the anxiety and depression #medication. When I started them in January they knocked me right out. My doctor said the psychiatrist who prescribed them had a plan where the dosage would change after 30 days, so I should try and stick to the plan he had. So I think maybe my body will get used to the medication? I dunno. I know I need to eat better, and get more exercise. But if the pills knock me out I don’t have energy for exercise and then I end up sleeping more and falling further behind. But I’m going to try my best not to fall behind. By being more gentle with myself, and getting a little bit done everyday.
But I’m also worried about my Mum. She’s had several bad falls lately, but trying to get her to reach out for help has been difficult. They come on without warning. She has an #MRI scheduled for this evening. So I hope that goes well. I don’t talk a lot about my Mum on this platform, outside of mentioning the odd fight we have had. She’s a good person, and has a lot of love in her heart. She’ll go the distance for those closest to her. Life hasn’t always been good to her though. She has a myriad of health issues: arthritis, diabetes, degenerative disc disorder, fibromyalgia, and heart disease to name a few. Sometimes I think it would be easier to list things she hasn’t dealt with. I try to help her out as best I can. But my own major depressive disorder hasn’t always made things easy on that front. But I try.

Owned by East Lawn Mortuaries and Memorial Parks, a private family-owned corporation based in Sacramento, Calif. They own three cemeteries and three other funeral homes. The building was completed in 1927 and is of the exotic "Byzantine" revival style of architecture.

The "Blow You Own Horn" parade marks the actual start of the All Canadian Jazz Festival on Saturday morning in Port Hope. The Heavyweights Brass Band walked in the parade and were the first stage act. In spite of a bit of rain at the start, the rest of the parade was relatively dry.
The following photo's were all taken at the Cass Sculpture Foundation Goodwood, & are my take on the works of art displayed here. The majority of the displays are in clearings in the woodland so are subject to the ambient light & the elements sometimes I have only taken a segment of the sculpture & have applied my own titles.
Mark Small's, Ferguslie Park Community Council held event to encourage young folk onto their bikes to play safe and keep fit
. Though the day was a wet one it never kept away the kids and adults all out for a good time, in what's become a massive push by local groups to make Ferguslie park a better place and encourage others into the community.
Ferguslie’s long history of depression and financial neglect has seen many come together to build a better future for everyone, where it’s seen the rebirth of the community council that’s led to the understanding of the political system and the routes to local funding under the leadership of John McIntyre. And where local council member Mark Small has used his understanding to place his bid like many others recently and won his group five thousand pound to punches for the community, bicycles to help encourage kids away off the couch and away from the TV and back into the streets to play where many no longer venture due to the rise of social media, where friendship is the click of a mouse.
Today saw an army rise from their chairs and into the Ferguslie park Tannahill centre before heading around the streets of Darkwood, while encouraged on by the locals and police alike, in what is hopped to be the start of many and an alternative to slouching around on the couch and a lost childhood in front of the television.
The event also help the Darkwood Crew, run by another local council member Terry McTernan and his team to raise funds, by backing cakes and offering up tea and coffee within the Tannahill during the event. With the hope of creating a peaceful and relaxing area filled with plant life and benches for the locals to relax and help bring everyone together to help strengthen community given so many have been lost to social media and the need for thumbs up in what’s become a lost generation of digital victims devoid of real friendship and community policed by media giants who’s version of community is do as we say or be band, rather than allowing young people to be individuals and find their own footing all be it riding safely among friends in a real community environment..

It is said that the mushroom, and especially Mycelium has the potential to replace all sorts of (harmful) materials like plastics and batteries. Here at Mediamatic we are interested in the cultural and artistic implications of this 'new' bio-material and conducted a workshop to explore the possibilities. During this introduction course we learned how to cultivate the Oyster Mushroom at home and by doing so gained a better understanding of the potential of this organism.

In Hamlet, the play, Polonius told his son, "to thine own self be true."
Everyone in this representative photo seems old enough to have taken grade 12 English to read Hamlet. Most likely, they have come across this scripture and thought deeply into it. But, all I saw was, "to thine own self" and nothing else. This photograph. Everyone seemed to be off in their own world. No one cared for each other, no one cared that one person got a "Tall White Hot chocolate" or a "Grande Skinny Vanilla Bean Latte."
What was the point of all this? Why buy from a higher class coffee shop? Why not go to a family-run coffee shop? Why Second Cup where things aren't relatively cheap?
To show off. Everyone wants to look better, more expensive than the people around them. They are so focused on beating their "competitors" that they don't even focus on their competitors at all. They don't stop to think, "hey, if I’m not paying them any mind. why should they?"
The girl in the front is wearing a Von Dutch hat, bought a grande drink that cost over a few bucks, and shopped for a few expensive underwear that no one sees but herself. Why? Why would she bother to even put on heavy hoop earrings and shop around all day when no one will notice because they're all just thinking about themselves?
Because, they have all forgotten the last two words that Polonius said to Laertes, "be true."
They only stop to remember, "To thine own self."
I took this picture in this angle so that I could get as many people in it as possible and I got the perfect moment in which no one had eye contact with each other. The girl in the front probably thought about HER day shopping, the woman in the red probably wondered when HER drink would come out, the cashier probably wondered how much longer HE'D have to work, and the man in line probably wondered when HE would be served. The lighting I chose was a mellow one. The reason is because when one is in a mellow mood, they usually zone out of reality and forget things. It reflects the storyline to this photograph. People zone out of what Polonius really said and they twisted it up.

Come make your own gadget, robot or wearable art at Tam Makers!
On Wednesday evenings, we host ‘You Can Make It’ workshops for adults and teens in our makerspace at Tam High School. During these open sessions, participants build new projects, with guidance from our staff and other community members.
Many of them are experienced makers, who are happy to share what they know. Here are some of the cool maker projects they are working on this month: a graceful robot spider, an eagle god with creepy eyes, an Arduino-powered garage opener, a Wifi server on a chip, and many laser cut picture frames.

Shades of Life
We've owned the "8-Ball" building for about 10 years after buying its burned out hulk. Built in 1907, it once housed an honest-to-god Safeway store in the 30s before that chain settled into large stores in larger towns and discovered that the "cash and carry" concept didn't work in towns used to local credit accounts. We use it for Loren's woodshop, and this past month actually got around to installing new window frames that approximate the original windows.
As the disgusting phrase "new normal" was thrown around and events were modified or cancelled left and right, I learned the inportance of creating normal. My husband and I had our own Italian Festival when our hometown of Scranton cancelled theirs. Everyone brought an Italian Dish and we picnicked outside. This is one of our lovely centerpieces
