I tell you, my speech was a big hit. But it was difficult for me to read it, because this was the only light in the boardroom.

Home owned by Anne Rice in the Garden District, she sold it in 2005 just before Katrina hit New Orleans. It is Greek Revival style house, Built 1857. It is the setting for several of Anne’s novels about the Mayfair witches. The address is 1239 1st St. at Chestnut.

Preserved owned former Salford City Transport 112 TRJ 112, a Daimler CVG6 built 1962 with a Metropolitan-Cammell H37/28R body turns from Middleton Road in Manchester into Heaton Park to take part in the Trans-Lancs Transport Show. Sunday 2nd September 2018
Note, TRJ 112 was originally owned and operated by Salford City Transport as number 112. Salford City Transport’s operations were transferred to the Central division of the Selnec Passenger Transport Executive on 1st November 1969, TRJ 112 being renumbered 4001 in Selnec Passenger Transport Executive’s March 1970 renumbering scheme. The Selnec Passenger Transport Executive’s operations were transferred to the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive on 1st April 1974 due to local government reorganisation. TRJ 112 was withdrawn from service in 1977 and purchased for preservation

INDEPENDENCE, OR: The Rogue Micro Hopyard hosted a Pumpkin Patch Party October 16th, the final fling of the fall season.
Gigantic Leroy-o-lantern pumpkins were given away to every kid who wanted to pick his own. We released our first batch of GYO Pumpkin Patch Ale, so adults had fun too. Made from the pumpkins we grew here on the Hopyard, it’s now available at the Chatoe Rogue by the pint, bottle and growlers.
There were games, raffles, Family Photo Station, Pumpkin Weighing Contest, Painting Booth and Free Range Chicks, Turkeys and Potbellied Pigs as well.
Owned by the St Petersburg municipality, Albert Whitted Airport has no scheduled services, but private aviation keeps it busy and local sightseeing flights are available. The Hangar Bar & Restaurant is a popular venue with non-flyers and there is a balcony for watching the aviation activity. I will be grateful if anyone can identify the aircraft types here, especially the natty one with the high tailplane.

Vigilant
1904 Thames Barge
Official No. 116176, 73 ton. Built of wood at Ipswich in 1904 by Orvis & Fuller
Owned by Alfred Horlock, who considered her to be a very fast barge, before she was converted to a yacht in 1932. Sold back into trade and converted to motor barge by Whiting Bros.
Passed to L.R.T.C. Owned by Dawes, Thomas and Martin. as private barge yacht until sold to Ms. Lynn Johnson & Graham Head in late 1997 and she was based at Woodbridge, Suffolk.
She moved to St Osyth in 2004, looking like she would end her days there. However, in a late twist for the barge, she was bought, patched up with plywood and motored around the South Coast under her own power to Topsham, Devon, where a restoration has been started.
She has been reframed and replanked, new hatch combings and had a new transom installed. Notably, her transom now says ‘Vigilant – Topsham’.

Mark Small's, Ferguslie Park Community Council held event to encourage young folk onto their bikes to play safe and keep fit
. Though the day was a wet one it never kept away the kids and adults all out for a good time, in what's become a massive push by local groups to make Ferguslie park a better place and encourage others into the community.
Ferguslie’s long history of depression and financial neglect has seen many come together to build a better future for everyone, where it’s seen the rebirth of the community council that’s led to the understanding of the political system and the routes to local funding under the leadership of John McIntyre. And where local council member Mark Small has used his understanding to place his bid like many others recently and won his group five thousand pound to punches for the community, bicycles to help encourage kids away off the couch and away from the TV and back into the streets to play where many no longer venture due to the rise of social media, where friendship is the click of a mouse.
Today saw an army rise from their chairs and into the Ferguslie park Tannahill centre before heading around the streets of Darkwood, while encouraged on by the locals and police alike, in what is hopped to be the start of many and an alternative to slouching around on the couch and a lost childhood in front of the television.
The event also help the Darkwood Crew, run by another local council member Terry McTernan and his team to raise funds, by backing cakes and offering up tea and coffee within the Tannahill during the event. With the hope of creating a peaceful and relaxing area filled with plant life and benches for the locals to relax and help bring everyone together to help strengthen community given so many have been lost to social media and the need for thumbs up in what’s become a lost generation of digital victims devoid of real friendship and community policed by media giants who’s version of community is do as we say or be band, rather than allowing young people to be individuals and find their own footing all be it riding safely among friends in a real community environment..

Everyone has their own image of America. For the most part it is the people, 'the Americans'. who capture our imagination. Be they presidents, film stars, wrestlers or Wall Street financiers, they absorb, appeal to and appall us. the stage upon which these players strut hardly figures at all. however, it is this stage or landscape that is the chief subject of most of Martin Beek's paintings. People, when they feature, are by no means insignificant but they occupy a small part in the scheme of things, His paintings seem to me to fall into two distinct categories. In the one he depicts that secret America: the largely unexplored and certainly uninhabited countryside of forest and rolling plain; the fearsome emptiness of the New Mexican desert the lush jungle either side of the Mississippi the cold sweep of a British Colombia Lakeside. These paintings are not cosy, railway waiting room art. Like the landscape of the United States and Canada, the images presented are exciting and grand. In what appears to be an entirely different body of work and one which incidentally has not been shown in Britain or America before, Martin depicts the quintessential American Mid-West small town with the comfortable images of library, school, church, twisting river and pleasant green. Here Beek's America is quiet and orderly despite being set in technicoloured aspic. It is a tapestry, fantasy world viewed somewhere above the fluttering Stars and Stripes, where like some sort of benevolent god, he shifts the familiar images around from painting to painting. Beek in these recent works acknowledges the influence of American folk artists Grandma Moses and Grant Wood as Europeans Breughel and Gauguin but the boldness and vibrancy of his colours, whether he is working in oil pastel or water-colours, are all his own making."

Many of them are experienced makers, who are happy to share what they know. Here are some of the cool maker projects they are working on this month: a graceful robot spider, an eagle god with creepy eyes, an Arduino-powered garage opener, a Wifi server on a chip, and many laser cut picture frames.

This was D/M William McDonald of the 4/5th Bn KOSB (TA) practising for the Drum major's competition at the Highland games.
He wears no1 (lowland) dress, blue jacket with Leslie tartan trews. This was a semi highland uniform with the inclusion of the plaid on the shoulder. Prior to 1881 the regiment wore the same uniform as English regiments

Bird Island | Seychelles - a privately owned, remote, coral sand cay island situated in the Indian Ocean just south of the equator, some 1200km off the East African coast - the northernmost island of the Seychelles archipelago.
Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
Hawksbill Turtles are now officially classified endangered, as numbers have declined dramatically over the last century. Seychelles is one of only a few major nesting sites around the world and, fortunately due to its remote location, Bird Island has perhaps more than its fair share coming up to lay each year. The laying season normally starts around the end of September / beginning of October, which coincides nicely with our annual visit. This is the time the south-easterly wind lessens and the sea becomes clearer and calmer. Whilst the even rarer Green Turtle only comes up at night when it’s dark to lay, the Hawksbill is happy to come up any time of the day. However, whereas the Green Turtle will lay throughout the year, the Hawksbill’s nesting season only lasts a few months through to February.
As part of the island’s ongoing conservation programme, as many Hawksbill Turtles as possible are measured and tagged after laying – a procedure that we have been privileged to share on many an occasion. We have also witnessed a number of turtles laying on our own when we have been responsible for obtaining the tag numbers. There is usually a tag on each flipper so, in theory, it’s just a simple case of recording the numbers, but sometimes this is easier than others because, although relatively small as far as turtles go, they are remarkably strong. Although the process of coming out of the sea, up the beach to find a suitable nesting site, digging, laying and the covering up can take over two hours, there is a sudden sense of urgency when the job is done and all they want to do is get back to the sea as quickly as possible. Consequently, the best time to approach and take the tag numbers is during the covering-up process. Whilst respecting their situation, you can also approach a turtle when they are laying. However, if you’re walking around the beach and see a turtle in the shallows looking for a suitable spot to come in, or one that is already on the beach in the process of finding a nesting site and/or starting to dig, then it is essential to keep your distance. If a turtle is disturbed before laying, or doesn’t like the beach area she’s chosen, she will simply return to the sea to come up another time. The evidence of this is often seen when you find tracks in the sand that show one has come out and back in again without laying. Sometimes these tracks are short, but other times, particularly at the remote north end of the island, they can extend over distances exceeding 150m or more.
They lay up to 200 eggs at a time, so hatchings can be large and quite exciting to watch for those that are fortunate to witness. Whilst Hawksbills are protected, they still have to ensure that their chosen nest site is in a safe location well above the high-tide line to guard against crab predation. But, at the same time, hatchlings need to be given a fighting chance of reaching the sea alive before being attacked by crabs or picked off by gulls or frigatebirds, which means that they don’t really want to nest further from the sea than necessary.
