Thought we'd roast the chicken over a wood fire instead of the grill tonight. I had some hickory nut hulls that we soaked in water and added to the fire to add a little hickory smoke. After roasting we brought it in, smothered it with homemade BBQ sauce and I baked it for a few more minutes. Then it was shredded and enjoyed on a freshly bake sourdough bread with homemade mozzarella cheese oozing out the sides - MMMMM.
Yesterday was the most beautiful day here in Ohio. It was sunny and warm (well 40 degrees which is warm this time of year). The morning was frosty, with temps down in the teens. All the sap that was flowing the day before had stopped and was frozen in the spiles. It didn’t take long for them to thaw out with the sun and warmth and start flowing again. These are prime sugaring temps; you want it to be above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. The rest of this week and next week look like it’s going to be beautiful, especially for sugaring.

Mr Chiots and I spent a week traveling through New England, mostly Maine. We enjoyed camping on the ocean for a few days. Camping is such a wonderfully relaxing thing to do. There's nothing like cooking breakfast and enjoying coffee while watching the tide come it.

One of the benefits of blogging is that now my entire life is documented through my camera lens. Just about everything I do is photographed from every angle.
I like having a journal of my days and I most likely wouldn’t be doing it without the encouragement of having people reading each and every day. I do appreciate that you all stop by and read each day, it keeps me posting.
This is: trout grilled over a fire, sided with brown rice, asparagus tips and ramps with a lemon butter sauce and a grating of parmesan on top.

Check it out - google "rocket stove" or check out other folks' photos here on Flickr. We got a little fancy with ours and went for a double burner for our outdoor kitchen (work in progress). Still working out the combustion/air flow kinks. And yes, ladies (and men who fancy), oh yes. He spends an awful lot of time with his shirt off, lucky me.
Allotment to garden table to flickr: lettuce, peas, wrinkly potatoes, and swiss chard leaves and grilled zucchini both stuffed with feta cheese. Ñam yum!

I took my family to the 3rd annual International Dutch Oven Society Dutch Oven Gathering for Region II on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The event was held Saturday at the Stockton Delta KOA campground in Terminous, California, between Rio Vista and Lodi.
The high point of the day for me was the opportunity to walk around Randy Brown's nineteenth century chuckwagon. The chuckwagon is the original American mobile kitchen.
This was the little pamphlet that came with the Grillette. "Charcoal Charlie" asks, "is there any other kind?" Guess not. Go with Kinsford. Of course!

This was the charcoal lighter fluid that came with the Grillette. No fluid was found in the bottle, thank goodness. I probably wouldn't have bought the thing if there had been.
