Cooking rocking stove made from old water heater tank. Has a stainless steel inner ring in the fire chamber. Small sticks are fed into the bottom feed tube...the ends ignite/burn in the combustion chamber. Creates a very efficient hot fire.

My two "Brothers from another Mother" (they're actual brothers) and I often send each other pics of us relaxing by a fire. Over the years I've casually mentioned that out in the woods where I live, I spend a lot of time without clothes, but I wasn't sure they took me seriously. Wanting to be more open about being a naturist, I sent them both a couple pics to prove it. They were slightly surprised, but it didn't cause any problems, at all. Now, they casually mention me being naked in the course of normal conversation.

Covered Barbeque Cooking: a booklet that came with the Weber Covered Barbeque Kettle. No date or illustrator given.

All the pages have some nice 2-color illustrations that are usually found at the bottom of each spread, alternating red and yellow. Cute little gags, offering support to the copy found on the pages.

Here is the finished product after baking for 1 hour at 400 degrees. Still in the cast iron bread pans.

Baking bread outdoors in my Big Green Egg Ceramic Grill. It is about 25 degrees cold outside today. Made the dough in my bread machine, then baked in cast iron bread pans at 400 degrees for 1 hour . Used the upside down baking pans with aluminum foil over the open side to deflect the direct heat, and set the cast iron baking pans on top of them.

This is the dough after rising in the cast iron bread pan for 1 hour 15 minutes, and now transferred outside and into the BGE ceramic grill.

Big Green Egg Chiminea Video. First use. The cone comes off, and I have the cooking grill, but have not used that yet. The grill and stand are optional too.

Best viewed closer. What cookbook on outdoor parties in the 50's wouldn't be complete without an illustration of a luau?

One of the benefits of blogging is that now my entire life is documented through my camera lens. Just about everything I do is photographed from every angle.

I like having a journal of my days and I most likely wouldn’t be doing it without the encouragement of having people reading each and every day. I do appreciate that you all stop by and read each day, it keeps me posting.

I like how it says at the bottom there: "Be the Barbecue Leader in your neighborhood. Your friends will call you the best host in town. Then they'll invite you to their backyards after they've learned your tricks of entertaining in the great outdoors." If they've learned your tricks, why would they invite you? Look, they capitalized "Barbecue Leader." As if it's something special. (Although, if this was in the South, it would be something VERY special. No kidding.)

90,000 BTU's heats up a cast iron flat top for some outdoor camp cookin' goodness....I love this stove. Stir fry's, steaks, egg scambles, wild rice soup, stews, biscuits/gravy, hotcakes.....we've made some good meals. Cooking outside in the woods is hard to beat, everything seems to taste a bit better.

The crock pot was already prepped with a cup of beef broth and my blend of herbs and spices. I pulled the sections apart and dropped them in there for two hours high heat and a couple of hours at low heat.

I had a craving for fried fish after watching a video on YouTube, but it was too hot to cook in the kitchen, so my brother set a table for me outside and brought out the portable stove, so I did a little fry station in the shade, and managed to keep the house from warming even more, the odours out and kitchen clean. These are some smelt.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... The Grillette.

A magnificent mini grill complete with briquettes and charcoal lighter fluid, all neatly packed up tight and ready for on-the-go outdoor grilling. Perfect for that "I haven't got the time or money for a big grill" husband who prefers to cook his choice steak on miniature grilling stands. A pretty nifty idea, probably best used in camping situations I'm guessing. Anyway, this sweet little doo-dad set me back a mere $10. Nice. It's now a part of my office decor.

Steaks on the BBQ, yes they tastes as good as they look.

That "OK" sign the chef's giving us looks a bit on the wonky side.

The Navajo traded with the Spanish, Mexican, Pueblos, Apache, Comanche, and even the early American pioneers. Around 1846, large numbers of pioneers moved into the area and the cavalry came with them. This is when troubles began. The troubles escalated with the murder or Narbona (1766-1849), a well-respected Navajo leader on August 31, 1849.

On this day, Narbona along with several hundred of his warriors, had come to meet and discuss peace with U.S. Colonel John M. Washington and others of the military stationed in the area. There had been trouble with the “New Men”, the New Mexican settlers who had driven Mexican settlers out of the area.

After several hours, it was believed a settlement had been agreed upon. However, a young warrior by the name of Sadoval, had plans of his own. Mounting his horse he began to ride in front of the Navajo party, attempting to have them break the treaty. A U.S. Calvary soldier began to say that one of the horses ridden by a Navajo was his, and what peace there was in the meeting that was disintegrating into battle.

Colonel Washington commanded the Navajo to stand down and return the horse to the soldier or he would fire into them. The rider and horse were now gone, and the Navajo party did not comply. A canon was fired, and Narbona was mortally wounded. It is told that he was scalped by a U.S. soldier as he lay dying.

This disastrous attempt at peace led to the “Long Walks”. In September 1863, Kit Carson (1809-1868) was dispatched into Navajo land to retrieve a surrender. When no Navajo came to meet with him, he ordered the burning of the land. Attempts were made to starve out the Navajo, and many were captured and taken to Bosque Redondo near Fort Sumner. Hundreds starved on the 300 mile walk, and more would die later in the crowded and disparaging conditions. Navajo were placed with the Mescalero Apache were home peace was often not the case. The camps were meant for 4,000 to 5,000 people, yet there were now over 9,000 people, and supplies were meager.

The government supplies of lard, flour, salt, sugar, baking powder or yeast, and powdered milk were often rancid. Fry bread came from these few foods provided during the 4 years of captivity. Since that time, it has become common food at most all PowWows of numerous tribes

To some, Indian Fry Bread is a sacred tradition. It is to be consumed by the people until the earth has again become purified.
