The 28th Kitsilano Scouts and Venturers spent the weekend camping in the beautiful, snowy Lone Duck campsite at E.C. Manning Park. As you can see it was a blast!

Mr Chiots and I spent a week traveling through New England, mostly Maine. We enjoyed camping on the ocean for a few days. Camping is such a wonderfully relaxing thing to do. There's nothing like cooking breakfast and enjoying coffee while watching the tide come it.

I took my family to the 3rd annual International Dutch Oven Society Dutch Oven Gathering for Region II on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The event was held Saturday at the Stockton Delta KOA campground in Terminous, California, between Rio Vista and Lodi.
The high point of the day for me was the opportunity to walk around Randy Brown's nineteenth century chuckwagon. The chuckwagon is the original American mobile kitchen.

Check my blog 'Round the Chuckbox at for the full story. The coffee was served at the IDOS Region II Dutch Oven Gathering last weekend at the Stockton Delta KOA campground.
After an hour or so of meticulously cooking bacon, potatoes and fried eggs on cast iron over an open fire we finally got food plated up. As I was walking around the campsite with my full plate to find a place to sit I tripped on a rock and sent my plate flying into the air. I tried to catch it and ended up with a hand full of greasy potatoes. The plate of food went flying into my tent, leaving me with an egg I could still salvage and eat, but ketchup and bacon grease on my tent. Ga-ross. I whined and moaned a bit, but got another plate of food and sat down to eat it. It was worth it, after all that I went through :)
The day after my birthday we went to a crab break at my friend Esti's house.
Esti was a neighbor and a babysitter of mine when I was little, now she's super glamourous: she owns 3 of the hottest restaurants in Boston and she's married to the bassist of American Hi-Fi. But they're still real people and just as comfortable eatting pot roast with my family as they are having a gourmet meal.
This crab bake is a year tradition for them (although this is the first year I've gone).

I spent the last week as chef for the Northern California FC Camp in Felton, California. The camp is sponsored by Florida College, a private Christian college in Temple Terrace, Florida. Tuesday night was barbecue chicken night. I baked an apple crisp in three (14-inch) Dutch ovens outside the kitchen. The meal, with Dutch oven scalloped potatoes, grilled chicken and corn-on-the-cob, is one of the most popular meals of the week.
