GETTING A HEAD START ON DRAINAGE
Many farmers are taking advantage of the weather and are putting drainage tiles into problem fields. Once the tiles are in place wet and lower ground areas may drain better allowing for the complete fields to be seeded at springtime, including the lower and wet problem areas.

Frances Lewis is shown at the counting tokens by machine at the Capital Transit barn at 4615 14th Street NW in Washington, DC in June 1943.
The transit company was hit with a severe shortage of streetcar and bus operators during World War II, but refused to hire African American operators.
In an attempt to fill the shortage, Capital Transit hired white women as streetcar and bus operators from 1943-45. A few of the women continued to operate until streetcars were phased out in Washington. The last streetcar ran in 1962.
