Mobility Operators Meeting | Day Two, Opening and Sharing Tools and Methodologies for Evaluation and Documentation
NEWPORT, RI – The U.S. Naval War College holds at graduation ceremony for students from the International Maritime Staff Operators Course (IMSOC) held at the Naval War College Museum onboard Naval Station Newport, June 2, 2023. IMSOC was jointly designed by the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) International Programs department and the College of Maritime Operational Warfare to teach international students the fundamental concepts and processes necessary to support a multinational maritime component commander at the operational level of warfare. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage. BVG Pride Month
Berlin's transport operator BVG - Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, has shown solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community for many years now and rainbow flags on stations and around the system are nothing new. The BVG does of course, have one of the largest LGBTQ+ workforces in Berlin.
This year, stations at Alexanderplatz and Nollendofplatz have been decorated, as has one train on the U2, which runs between both stations and has been given rainbow colours as well.
The Art Work by Tape That Berlin Kreuzberg:
Smooth rays are known to charge divers in a bit of a territorial display of authority. It's happened to me before but this was full on! After i saw this guy from the surface, i descended into about 9 m of water. I lay flat on the bottom, and it charged straight for me. I stayed motionless, holding my ground and trying not to move a muscle. It was a game of chicken, (but with a ray) and no one was backing down. I thought it would approach closely, and then veer away at the last moment , but no...it went straight over the top of me....a 2-3 metre wide mass 'breathing' down on me as it passed over me lying on the ground. One hell of an encounter! We became quiet good friends over the next 20-30 minutes as he continued to do close inspections...none as close as this first one though.
To give you a little idea how far we have come, this is a picture of the operators desk before we started restoration. The windows were boarded up but still were smashed. Water got in everywhere and ruined the desk top. The desk drawers are below.
Air lautnya sungguh menggoda.
Features six images from my towboat set. I have a new set which contains these images.
California ISO Headquarters, Dreyfuss & Blackford Architects. #wedesignedthis
The California Independent System Operator moved into their new headquarters campus, ahead of schedule and right on budget. This was a visionary project for the non-profit ISO, which manages the electrical grid for the entire state of California. The over-arching goal in the new facility was to create a secure, innovative and energy efficient headquarters complex. A further design goal was to enhance the work environment so that California ISO becomes the “employer of choice” for engineering and technical staff in the region.
The site is a pristine, gently rolling savannah with a glade of nearly 100 native oaks. We carefully nestled the building into the natural site, preserving the native oak trees. Generous native landscape areas were also preserved and incorporated as passive security setbacks for the facility.
The complex was designed with three separate building elements: a wing for public functions, a wing for administrative offices, and a wing housing the essential services “mission critical” operations. A striking central lobby serves as a hub, linking the building elements, providing way-finding and security screening.
To demonstrate leadership by example, the project placed an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability and in July 2011 earned a LEED Platinum rating – the highest rating possible - from the US Green Building Council. The building is designed with a particular focus on achieving energy efficiency and is projected to operate nearly 40% more efficiently than California’s restrictive Title 24 standards with nearly 20% of it’s annual power consumption being supplied by renewable energy from on-site photovoltaic arrays.

I took these photos while I was in between pilot runs on Amtrak #5 and #6 on November 5-6, 2010. #5 and #6 were detouring over the former C&NW and UP between Chicago and Omaha because of bridge work on the BNSF.
