Smooth rays are known to charge divers in a bit of a territorial display of authority. It's happened to me before but this was full on! After i saw this guy from the surface, i descended into about 9 m of water. I lay flat on the bottom, and it charged straight for me. I stayed motionless, holding my ground and trying not to move a muscle. It was a game of chicken, (but with a ray) and no one was backing down. I thought it would approach closely, and then veer away at the last moment , but no...it went straight over the top of me....a 2-3 metre wide mass 'breathing' down on me as it passed over me lying on the ground. One hell of an encounter! We became quiet good friends over the next 20-30 minutes as he continued to do close inspections...none as close as this first one though.
I was on the last car of the CTA brown line, and there was barely anybody riding, so I busted out my tripod and started taking photos inside the car.

Rail replacement on the home signal curve at Daylesford by Daylesford Spa Country Railway volunteers
After receiving their gear, the new operators wasted no time heading to the range, eager to familiarize themselves with their equipment and sharpen their skills. They began by working on the fundamentals of shooting, ensuring their stance, grip, and trigger discipline were flawless before advancing to more complex drills.
For Tier One operators, mastering the art of precision shooting is a relentless pursuit. It’s not uncommon for them to spend countless hours on the range—from the first light of dawn to the last rays of dusk—focusing intensely on perfecting a single shot. This level of dedication is what separates them from others, as every detail matters when the stakes are high.
After each drill, the more experienced operators were always nearby, ready to step in with advice or demonstrate advanced techniques. Their insights and hands-on guidance helped the newcomers quickly identify areas for improvement and push their abilities to the next level.

A sort-of self portrait taken by Christina in Cabezon, New Mexico. Somehow in this photo I managed to look extrememly 'college kid'. I think it's the mix of clean shaven, cut hair, star teeshirt, and silly Kurt Cobain sunglasses. I suppose most college kids don't really walk aroudn with high-powered rifles-- or is that "an alarming ammount of college kids are starting to walk aroudn with high powered rifles"...
The rifle is a UE Enfield British L1A1 in .308 on an Inch Imbel reciever.
