On August 28, 1989, just a few days after Clee's retirement, we got word of a southbound inspection train coming down the CE&D. It was a gray and hazy day, but you've got to do what you've got to do. Operator Bobby McClara is coming down the steps for the rollby.
After the southbound train passed, we heard that there was a track geometry train coming north after meeting the inspection train. So we decided to hang out and wait, and ended up with a HUGE surprise.

I imagine the Illinois Central tower operator at Gibson City, IL was kind of like the Maytag repair man, since it was often hours between the passing of trains. At this time in April 1990 there were only 5 or 6 trains a day through town, including the IC Clinton-Gilman local each way; the NS Decatur-Chicago train each way; and the NS Decatur-Peoria train. I don't recall if the Peoria train ran daily or 3 days per week each way.

A rather old coach for a Travelstyle tour to Eastbourne in 2012 and operator at the time unknown - but possibly Solus? Former Shearings Volvo B10M-60 Van Hool Alizee J301 PND, now ACZ 1133, was still lettered for previous operator Olympic Executive Travel of Rochdale when seen in Brighton on 28th July.

Inside the cab of the abandoned B&E dragline out near Ferris, Texas. Here's a shot of what this behemoth looks like from the outside.
While it may not look like it, this space was surprisingly difficult to light-paint. The mixture of different surfaces and tones coupled with the ambient light made getting the values in the different areas pretty challenging. I probably ran 8 or 10 short test exposures before nailing a combination of strobe hits that produced the result you see here. Then it was just matter of duplicating the lighting scheme, and letting the background burn in from the moonlight.
You gotta view it large on black to see all the details.
Night, full moon, 2 cross-fired strobe hits up top (one at each side window), and one below, about a foot off the floor, at the base of the operators chair.
This is the first time I saw a drone operator wearing a first person viewer (FPV) headset. In fact, he was violating the law at the marina park which has a drone prohibited sign at the front entrance.
Although Tower 98 in Springfield had been closed since pieces of the line were CTC 'd in the NYC era ,Springfield station still housed a block operator's office whose job it was to deliver train orders to trains passing through.
One of these was TV13 seen here as the operator ,having handed up the orders , now observes the train for defects.

When SELNEC took over from eleven municipal bus operators in November 1969, one of its first problems was to decide on a paint scheme for the new fleet. It was decided to make a clean break with the colours of the old fleets, and a scheme of 'sunglow' orange with broken white was adopted. Number 53, which had been delieverd new in Manchester's red and cream, was chosen as an early guinea pig for the new scheme, and was posed at the back of the Hyde Road depot and works complex for an official photo.
The railway lines in the background are just outside Ardwick on the line from Manchester to Sheffield via Woodhead - now cut back to Glossiop and Hadfield. If you ride past this spot today on a train, it is the area just before Ardwick station (if you're travelling towards Manchester) on the left, that is today used as a container storage yard.

An operator working for Her Majesty's Government protecting ships in the increasingly dangerous seas of Africa requested a lighter, full automatic variant of the Mk. 77 Features a smaller 16" barrel, lighter internals and a considerably shorter over-all length and weight.
I really wanted to do something else with this design, guess this is it then.
