Freelance project for The City Church.
This is a concept that I have had for a while that finally got to see the light of day. I updated it from an older version. I added floral elements and paint splats to depict both the beauty and the mess that relationships can be. This is a door hanger to promote an upcoming sermon series, the bulletin for which can be seen here.

This shadow caused me to stop and take notice while I was driving around the back alleys of a small Montana town. One of those right time, right place kind of things. The sun must have been in just the right spot to cast that shadow. I figured since Easter is coming up I would post it.

My two October trips to photograph in Utah extended my ongoing education about the place, and one of the locations (but not the only one!) about which I had and still have the most to learn is Capitol Reef National Park. When I first was there in April of 2012, my encounter with this park was perhaps shamefully superficial, though my excuse is that we were only passing through on our way to another place. All I saw of the park was the short highway drive that passed by the Fruita District as it passes through the park - the rest of the park beyond this small bit remained a complete mystery to me. In October I was there twice. On the first visit I was in the area enough to start to get a bit of a feel for the place, though I mostly still stuck to the most popular and accessible areas, with the addition of a bit of hiking and a long drive on gravel roads down the less-visited side of the park. On the second visit I learned and saw a bit more - enough to convince me that there is much more to this park and that it is a place I want to return to.
Although there is no evidence of this in the photograph, this shot was made in a short slot canyon in an out-of-the way area of the park. We drove there on a very cold morning and heading into the canyon while the temperature still hovered around freezing. There was no one else there at all, and we barely even saw anyone else on the long drive to get there. The little canyon itself was quite beautiful and full of interesting surprises - juxtapositions of glowing red-orange walls and shaded blue-purple walls, brilliantly colorful gambel oak leaves, large sandstone faces and walls, and more. As I investigate a place like this I try to let my eyes roam beyond the first things I see, and try to also see smaller things that could easily be missed. Here I happened to look down at my feet - sometimes a good thing to do! - and see that the floor of the stream bed was in places carpeted with oak and other leaves that had recently fallen, and this batch of brown and tan leaves held one that was still green.

Having just got back from a lovely holiday in Florida, I am now all behind with my Christmas decorations and cards ! ;o)

Looking northeast on Route 350 towards the abandoned One Stop general store in Delhi, Colorado. One of several now-dormant communities along the Santa Fe Trail, Delhi was perhaps best known in the 1973 movie Badlands where Martin Sheen's character stops to fill up before he is spotted by the local sheriff as he is being pursued by the law for murder.
To have had one 101 working by June 1989 was exceptional but, as we will see later - all THREE to be active on the same day must have been up there with blue moons and hen's teeth. 103 "Merlin" & 102 "Falcon" pull away from Lisburn with the 09.00 Belfast Central - Dublin Connolly.
My notes give no clue as to how this event came about - was it ITG organised or just something Denis Grimshaw slipped past. Any input will be welcome. For obvious reason, I did not photograph the return.

Church of St Michael de Rupe, (St Michael of the rock) Brentor Devon, built of local volcanic stone, formerly rendered, with local Hardwick stone dressings. It stands on a rocky tor overlooking the Burn valley, all that remains of an ancient volcano. The climb to the top is short and steep, but the views are well worth the effort .
One of 2 parish churches here, it was founded in c1130 and is believed to be the 4th smallest in England, at only 40 feet in length, and stands at a higher elevation (340 metres) than any other. Sometimes a tight fit for the congregation ! www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=436578023218965&set=ecnf...
This was firstly a private chantry chapel for the Giffard family, served by a pair of secular priests and a clerk from Tavistock Abbey. Legend says that Robert Gifford, Lord of the Manor of Lamerton, was caught in a terrible storm at sea. He prayed for deliverance to St Michael and vowed that if he was spared he would build a church on the first land he saw - this would have been his view if the lower land in between was covered by fog. www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=393144804228954&set=ecnf...
Standing in this very exposed position, its fortified design had only one 12c window to the north and south sides of the nave and a small narrow chancel.
This chapel was sequestered by the Bishop of Exeter who rebuilt it in the 13c, being rededicated in 1319 by Bishop Walter de Stapledon, later Lord High Treasurer of England,
The possessions of Tavistock Abbey, including Brentor church, were seized by the Crown at the Dissolution of the Monastery, and Brentor was granted to Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of Bedford,
There is evidence of considerable repair over the ages.
Alterations were made in the 15c when the three stage tower was added and the chancel extended to the same width as the nave, (the east front masonry indicates narrow width of the original chancel). Also probably the steeply-pitched 13c roof was replaced by an almost flat 15c one protected from the weather by tall battlemented parapets supported on the 13c corbel table.

The Batten family of Bremesbatch in the parish, have a slate memorial to a Walter Batten who was buried in 1677 & the name Walter Batten is on the 1694 sundial. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/1x9H05949F Later Lance Corporal John Henry Batten, youngest son of W H Batten again of Bremesbatch who died in Mesopotamia Sept 17th 1916 aged 20 years has a memorial on the nave wall. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/640fp2j524
Following major repair works in 2016, the roof has been fully refurbished, and electric lighting is run off solar panels on the roof (sadly, the Victorian gas lamps have been condemned as unsafe) – There is Evensong every Sunday at 6pm from Easter to Michaelmas (at the end of September). Through the winter, there are festival services (our Advent and Epiphany Carol Concerts, and the Christmas Day 3pm Carol Service are highlights). There is a popular One Friday Easter Ascent on Good Friday, and the aim is for services at least once a month, all year round.

Below the church, on the slopes of the tor, are obvious earthwork remains of an Iron Age enclosure.

SX-70 film, not manipulated. I shot this last winter, just got around to digitizing it. I may try repairing the sky, but then it wouldn't be a real Polaroid. Anyway, I like it. This is what my town looks like in winter.

Taking a walk around the city on my way home after my visit with the physiotherapist for my hand at the hospital. It is a hard place to get a good shot of the work because of all the buildings that surround it!
World-renowned street artist ROA has completed his large painting of a moa on the side of the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch.
The big black and white artwork on the northern wall of the museum was finished this week by the Belgian artist, who is known for his large pictures of animals.
ROA is one of about a dozen artists who have been commissioned to create works as part of the Rise street art festival.
The festival also features an exhibition at the Canterbury Museum of international and Kiwi street artists, work by British street artist Banksy and new work by Australian artist Ian Strange.
The exhibition has already proved to be one of the most popular in the

This is my sister Becca and I. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is my first photo of Bec on my stream. Sometime I'll let you see her face. :)
We got to the sunset just in the nick of time because it was steadily going down; you could literally see it moving. We had to run through thick mud just to get on top of this hill, but I think the shot was worth it. The colors are barely enhanced - that's how amazing and beautiful the sky was.
