"The sky is one whole, the water another; and between those two infinities the soul of man is in loneliness."
Henryk Sienkiewicz
This beautiful Grizz and I were really staring each other down a few days ago. The full Latin classification for this species is "Ursus Arctos Horribilis", but I prefer to leave out the last word; It doesn't feel appropriate.
We encountered this fellow excavating tasty roots along the Alaska Highway near the Beaver Creek Canada Customs station.
Lots of happy bears around this year, many seen along the Alaska Hiway ...
The Grizzlies are busy digging up roots, the Black Bears munching away on fresh flowers.
Next posting: A happy Blackie feasting on fresh Arctic Lupine ....

I was in town (Philly) and about to take a photo of the building across the street when this fellow said, "Hey, you tryin' to take my picture? Let's do this right. Get ready and I'll start walking." Then he displayed his Eagles shirt and I snapped the shot. And he just kept on walking. You gotta love this guy!
I forgot all about taking the photo of the building. :o)
Came across this perfect setting of nature when we were touring in Wilpaththu early 2015. One of the magical & stunning encounters witnessed ever.
As small as the Royal Wulff was in the last post, this one is gigantic, about the size of a baseball.
Tier unknown.
... when sunny was the weather. :-)

I noticed after the fact that this BNSF transfer from TRRA's Madison Yard to BNSF's Lindenwood Yard had one of each of the three BNSF "heritage schemes." I wish the last unit was leading, but I'll take the cigar band "heritage 2" as second best.
Note the over-under with the Sperry Rail truck on the I-70 Stan Musial Veterans Memorial bridge in the background.
This plane, SAM 26000, a custom built 707 served three presidential administrations... John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and the first term of Richard Nixon. It is the plane that took JFK to Dallas alive and well in 1963, and brought him back to Washington, well you know. It is arguably the most historically significant airplane around. At one time the victim of budget cuts, now it is back on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. A must read:
