Next to the main chamber, in the tomb 6 of the Calakmul Substructure IIB lay the bodies of the two companions of Yuknoom Yich'aak K'ahk' ("Claw of Fire" of "Jaguar Paw Smoke"): a young woman and an almost teenage boy. The boy was placed at the woman's feet next to the fish bones and others possibly reptilian; he carried a jade piece in one hand and, like the ruler, the remains of a sea sponge between his thighs. As the only vestige of their cloths, cotton fibers were found near the pelvis.
In spite of the absence of textile remains, the high hierarchy of the woman was proven by being dressed in fine jade jewelry like earplugs, a string of beads from which the face of a deity hangs, and in the left hand, a delicate face human. On the skull of the woman a funerary headdress is distinguished, elaborated with a wooden structure and palm covered with stucco in blue, green, black, red and ocher that forms capricious reliefs and curves.
On their pelvis were placed a hiding vessel with four small obsidian eccentrics in the form of a scorpion, two undulating arrows, and a cross and next to these, 12 stingray spines and three styled
bone needles. Near the body were small bells and other objects of bone, shell and limestone, as well as wicker baskets and a stucco-coated wooden platter with the representation of a deity. Under the headdress there were placed 11 stamps with figures of humans, deities, flowers and hummingbirds. A flower-shaped element made of stucco wood with jade mosaic was also found; shells and snails, a plate with inscriptions covered in red and green stucco, a polychrome glass with the representation of a celestial deily and more ceramic vessels.

Professor Wei Lu leads research in advanced battery materials, electrochemical modeling, and smart battery management systems. His lab develops next-generation technologies to make electric vehicle batteries safer, longer lasting, and more efficient—most recently through a piezoelectric separator that prevents dendrite formation in lithium metal cells. This innovation, under license through the U-M startup Dendrifree, could enable higher energy densities and faster charging while reducing safety risks, paving the way for more reliable and sustainable electric mobility.
