Experimental Pewter Casting with jeweler Sian Evans and Plant Moisture sensor masterclass with Romain and George who are both technicians at the Institute of Making.

Members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) which includes the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), took oath before his Excellency the President of the Republic General Michel Aoun today on 16 July 2019, as follows:
“I swear by Almighty God to carry out my duties in the National Human Rights Commission with all integrity, faithfulness and independence and act, in all that I do, in a trustworthy manner and always seek rightfulness and protect and promote human rights. “
In accordance with Law No. 62 of October 27, 2016, the National Human Rights Commission, which includes the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, was established in reference to Presidential Decree No. 3267 dated 19 June 2018, and the Presidential Decree No. 5147 dated 5 July 2019.
It includes 10 members: Judge Khalil Abou Rjeily. Prof. Fadl Daher, Mr. Bassam Kantar, Ms. Rida Azar, Dr. Fadi Gerges, Dr. Rana Al-Jamal, Mr. Raymond Medlej, Dr. Bilal Sablouh, Dr. Josyan Madi Skaff, and Mr. Ali Youssef.
The NHRC protects and promotes human rights in Lebanon in accordance with the standards laid down in the Lebanese Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as International Human Rights Conventions and Treaties and Lebanese laws consistent with these standards. The NHRC shall carry out special functions set out in the present law and may, for this purpose, communicate independently with international and local human rights bodies.
In particular, the NHRC is vested with the following duties:
Monitor the extent of Lebanon’s compliance with Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law and draft and publish special or periodic reports thereon.
Contribute independently to drafting reports that shall be submitted by the Lebanese State
Offer feedback and consultation upon the request of competent authorities or on its own initiative in regard of respecting and observing human rights standards.
Receive claims and complaints of human rights violations and contribute to handling these claims through negotiations and mediation or through prosecution
Contribute to disseminating the culture of human rights and push for the implementation and development of educational programs on human rights.
The Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), works within the NHRC on protecting the rights of persons who are detained and deprived of their liberties pursuant to the provisions of the present law and in accordance with Lebanon’s obligations under the OPCAT - Optional Protocol to the “Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment” (hereinafter referred to as “Convention against torture”)
As defined by the OPCAT, CPT carries out the function of a national preventive mechanism (NPM) aimed to protect the rights of persons who are detained and deprived of their liberties. The NPM enjoys the independent legal capacity to act in matters related to torture and prevention thereof.
Both NHRC and CPT each in its own field sets down a unified report including their annual program, achievements, and challenges. NHRC shall submit the unified report to the office of the President, the office of Head of Parliament, the office of the Prime Minister and the office of Head of the Supreme Council of Justice. The report shall be published in the Official Gazette and may be discussed by the Parliament.
The report shall not mention any personal information or details that could reveal the identity of victims or witnesses without their consent.

Cyprus is an island country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Situated in West Asia, its cultural identity and geopolitical orientation are overwhelmingly Southeast European. Cyprus is the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia. It is located southeast of Greece, south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel and Palestine, and north of Egypt. Its capital and largest city is Nicosia. Cyprus hosts the British military bases Akrotiri and Dhekelia, whilst the northeast portion of the island is de facto governed by the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is separated from the Republic of Cyprus by the United Nations Buffer Zone.
Cyprus was first settled by hunter-gatherers around 13,000 years ago, with farming communities emerging by 8500 BC. The late Bronze Age saw the emergence of Alashiya, an urbanised society closely connected to the wider Mediterranean world. Cyprus experienced waves of settlement by Mycenaean Greeks at the end of the 2nd millennium BC. Owing to its rich natural resources (particularly copper) and strategic position at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and Asia, the island was subsequently contested and occupied by several empires, including the Assyrians, Egyptians, and Persians, from whom it was seized in 333 BC by Alexander the Great. Successive rule by Ptolemaic Egypt, the Classical and Eastern Roman Empire, Arab caliphates, the French Lusignans, and the Venetians was followed by over three centuries of Ottoman dominion (1571–1878). Cyprus was placed under British administration in 1878 pursuant to the Cyprus Convention and formally annexed by the United Kingdom in 1914.
The island's future became a matter of disagreement between its Greek and Turkish communities. Greek Cypriots sought enosis, or union with Greece, which became a Greek national policy in the 1950s. Turkish Cypriots initially advocated for continued British rule, then demanded the annexation of the island to Turkey, with which they established the policy of taksim: portioning Cyprus and creating a Turkish polity in the north of the island. Following nationalist violence in the 1950s, Cyprus was granted independence in 1960. The crisis of 1963–64 brought further intercommunal violence between the two communities, displaced more than 25,000 Turkish Cypriots into enclaves,: 56–59 and ended Turkish Cypriot political representation. On 15 July 1974, a coup d'état was staged by Greek Cypriot nationalists and elements of the Greek military junta. This action precipitated the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on 20 July, which captured the present-day territory of Northern Cyprus and displaced over 150,000 Greek Cypriots and 50,000 Turkish Cypriots. A separate Turkish Cypriot state in the north was established by unilateral declaration in 1983, which was widely condemned by the international community and remains recognised only by Turkey. These events and the resulting political situation remain subject to an ongoing dispute.
Cyprus is a developed representative democracy with an advanced high-income economy and very high human development. The island's intense Mediterranean climate and rich cultural heritage make it a major tourist destination. Cyprus is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement until it joined the European Union in 2004; it joined the eurozone in 2008. Cyprus has long maintained good relations with NATO and announced in 2024 its intention to officially join.

On September 26, 2010, these traffic signals will be removed and the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 20th Street here in Saskatoon will be revamped and rebuilt. There will be "bulbed" corners, new traffic signals and will be part of the 3rd Avenue Streetscape Project. For more information, on the project, you may click here. This is part of the third phase of the project, I think.
This was taken before the removal. Pictures after the removal will be posted at a later date, as well as pictures with the new signals. When the lights at 22nd Street were replaced, I did take pictures of the "progress." However, due to time constraints and laziness when it comes to uploading photos, I have decided not to take pictures of the "progress," as "progress" in Saskatoon is pretty slow.

Here is a strip mall in Bloomington called Bloomdale(near France & Old Shakopee). It's been sitting there abandoned for quite some time. There were supposed to be new shops put in there about 9 months ago but nothing has changed.
The cornerstone was laid in 1892, the year Ellis Island opened. The Founders built the seven Chapels of the Tongues to commemorate the major immigrant groups that were pouring into the building and the city. The cathedral hosts people of all faiths; i.e., Priests, Rabbis, Monks and Imams share the pulpit.
During the Blessing of the Bicycles, hundreds of cyclists, including bike messengers, wheel into the Great Crossing. Animals, including camels, are blessed at the Feast of St. Francis
