This manuscript was illuminated by a circle of at least five highly organized manuscript painters active in the Flemish cities of Ghent and Bruges. The principal illuminator was Alexander Bening, who painted the majority of the book's miniatures. Manuscripts produced by this circle of artists are renowned for the decoration of their borders, which typically feature a rich variety of realistically-painted flowers, birds, and butterflies. This prayer book, called a book of hours, was intended not for a cleric, but for the private devotions of a lay person-in this case, Isabella the Catholic, Queen of Spain (1451-1504). Isabella's coat of arms embellishes the book's frontispiece. It is unlikely that the book was commissioned by the Queen herself; rather, she probably received it as a diplomatic gift from someone courting her patronage, perhaps Cardinal Francisco Jimenez de Cisneros. A Franciscan friar, Jimenez was dependent upon Isabella for his advancement, first to the post of Queen's confessor in 1492, and then to Archbishop of Toledo in 1495.

Krewe of Bacchus, February 11, 2018 in New Orleans Louisiana.

Pictures of the National Museum of Singapore during my recent visit to Singapore. Went through a cool exhibit on the history of radio in Singapore as well as their general history exhibit. Pictures were taken during my visit to the museum on May 14, 2016 and throughout my stay for the librarian conference in Singapore.

This shot was taken at the Holland, Michigan Farmer's Market. The flowers were amazing... the colors were unreal.

Jupiter Missile

Jupiter was the United States' first intermediate-range ballistic missile. In December 1955, the Army and Navy announced a dual program to create a land and sea-based intermediate-range ballistic missile. The Jupiter IRBM was designed as a short missile to ease handling aboard ships. At the end of 1956, the IRBM program was transferred to the U.S. Air Force.

The Jupiter missile was used in a series of sub-orbital test flights. The most famous of these was a biological test flight conducted on May 29, 1959. An American-born rhesus monkey named "Able" and a South American squirrel monkey named "Baker" rode in the nosecone of the missile to an altitude of 360 miles and at a top speed of 10,000 miles per hour. Both monkeys survived the flight in good condition and proved that living creatures could pass through space and return safely to earth.

The Jupiter missile on exhibit is 67 feet tall and weighs 11 tons (22,000 pounds) stripped of its internal equipment.

The regional consultation on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women (RPA EVAW) was convened in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1 to 4 December 2025. The meeting gathered representatives from ASEAN Member States, Sectoral Bodies, the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), the ASEAN Secretariat and technical partners to take forward the development of the next RPA EVAW 2026–2035.

The consultation built on national consultations held earlier in seven Member States, as well as two thematic ASEAN processes: the consultation on disability inclusion in violence against women and girls’ policies and programmes, and the consultation on the forthcoming Common Chapter on the intersections between violence against women and violence against children.

The meeting was hosted by ASEAN, with support from Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, ACWC Thailand, the Chulalongkorn University Institute of Asian Studies and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.

The consultation was supported by UN Women and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) through the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia, funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and by UN Women through the PROTECT Project, funded by the European Union. Additional support was provided by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

I've underexposing these crazy sunsets for a pretty cool effect

My third visit of the year to the Peony Gardens at the Nichols Arb. Been such a strange Spring in Ann Arbor - very cold for a long time and then we jumped into what feels like summer weather. Lovely day in Ann Arbor. The blooms are almost in peak bloom. Taken on Monday June 4th, 2018.
