Hypocoat.—A specific type of ped and void surface feature consisting of material infused beneath a surface. It commonly is formed by oxidation-reduction processes and described as a kind of redoximorphic feature. An example is an iron concentration in a narrow zone within the ped matrix lining a pore.

LOS ANGELES - Under the lights of Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation hosted its annual VALOR Awards on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, bringing together city leaders, corporate partners, and community members to recognize firefighters for their courage and service.
The 2025 ceremony opened with a VIP reception, giving guests the rare opportunity to meet LAFD personnel, view firefighting apparatus up close, and watch exclusive demonstrations highlighting the department’s life-saving capabilities. As the sun set over Chavez Ravine, attendees took their seats on the infield for dinner and the start of the evening’s formal program.
VALOR is the Foundation’s signature event, an annual tradition honoring men and women whose decisive actions, expert training, and selfless commitment have protected lives across and beyond Los Angeles. This year’s honorees were celebrated through a series of video presentations and personal stories, each underscoring the weight of the split-second decisions firefighters make on the city’s toughest days.

The Church of Notre-Dame of Dijon is a Roman Catholic church in Dijon. Considered a masterpiece of 13th-century Gothic architecture, it is situated at the heart of the preserved old centre of the city. It is located in Place Notre-Dame, near the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and opposite the rue Musette.
Work on the church began around 1230. The church contains the statue of Notre-Dame de Bon-Espoir, formerly called the Black Madonna. The church's decorations also include two symbols of Dijon: the jacquemart (bell-striking automaton) and the owl. The church was classified as a Monument Historique in the List of historic monuments of 1840. The chapel of the Assumption, the sacristy, and the gallery that links them have been listed as Monuments Historiques since 5 July 2002.

March for Babies Walk: The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. Our team walked for March for Babies because we wanted to do something about this. Thanks to everyone who supported the cause and joined us on May 1st - We hope to see even more participants next year!

One of the most iconic and best-preserved ancient Roman cities in the world.
The city was located near present-day Naples in Italy and was completely buried under a meters-thick layer of ash and pumice in 79 AD following a devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius . Because the city was sucked into a vacuum under the ash, the architecture, art, and even the tragic imprints of the inhabitants remained exceptionally well preserved.
Today, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world. Since late 2024, a maximum of 20,000 visitors per day has been in effect to protect the fragile ruins from mass tourism.
Streets, shops (such as an intact Roman snack bar), villas with colorful frescoes, and an amphitheater offer a unique glimpse into the daily life of the Roman Empire.
The unique cavities left by the bodies of victims in the hardened ash have been filled with plaster by archaeologists, making the final moments of the inhabitants visible in painful detail.
The excavations officially began in 1748 and continue to this day. New rooms, mosaics, and wall paintings are still being uncovered.
The Casa del Fauno (the House of the Faun) in Pompeii is one of the largest, most luxurious, and most impressive Roman private residences (domus) that have survived from antiquity. The prestigious complex covers an area of no less than 3,000 m² , thereby filling an entire city block ( insula ). The residence was built in the 2nd century BC during the Samnite period and reflects a unique blend of Roman architecture and Greco-Hellenistic luxury.

Traditions of Excellence was held on May 13th, 2016 in the Rita (Bedford Hall), and Wyllie Hall. Alumni continue to carry the great legacy of UW-Parkside alumni forward and contribute to the betterment of our society. From the College of Arts and Humanities, Dean Walker presented the Distinguished Alumni and Achievement Award to Dr. Jay Ruud. Damian Evans was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni and Service Award.
From the College of Business, Economics, and Computing, Associate Dean Gee presented Alan Biland with the Distinguished Alumni and Achievement Award. Richard Gorton was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni and Service Award.
