Day 37-February 6~Psalm 18:1-3
"I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress and my Savior. My God is my Rock in Whom I find protection. he is my Shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety."
This area is called Blue Rocks, near Lenhartsville, PA. There are several "rivers" like this throughout the area. Always an amazing site to behold, knowing those rocks have been there for thousands of years!
The College of DuPage Board of Trustees congratulated this year's outstanding faculty during a special May 15 meeting.
Travelogue of me and my wife's honeymoon trip to Switzerland. We covered mainly the southern, southwestern and central switzerland. The experience was breathtaking with each alpine scenery taking our breath away.
Shots taken on day 7 for one of the most impressive highlights along this vacation. We head up to Jungfraujoch and took a glacier hike to Monchsjochhutte. An ardous 1.5hour hike to the hut but the views there together with a superb lunch made our day. Ice/Snow and fun filled afternoon. Memories at this Top of Europe were what we will remember for years to come.
I never asked her to jump. She wanted to do this jump. Lol...
Earlier this year, a group from the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw visited Detroit for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. They worked hand in hand with teens from the Archdiocese of Detroit as part of a continued effort to foster opportunities for encounter among the youth. The world’s largest permanent exhibition space for Western art is in Cartersville, Georgia at the Booth Western Art Museum.
Open since 2003 and located just north of Atlanta along I-75, the Booth is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast and an Affiliate to the Smithsonian Institution. At 120,000 square feet, the Booth is an architectural wonder – designed to resemble a modern pueblo and constructed from Bulgarian limestone. The Booth’s permanent collection of Western art, Presidential portraits and letters, and Civil War art allows visitors to “See America’s Story” – the land, people, struggles, dreams, and legends – in paintings, sculpture, photography and artifacts. Sagebrush Ranch is an award-winning, hands-on experience and interactive children’s gallery.
Western art in Georgia, specifically Cartersville? Booth Museum was started by a family who call Cartersville home and have been Western art collectors for many years. It was their wish to share their art with the community, particularly young people who might not otherwise be exposed to art. The Museum was named for Sam Booth, a good friend and mentor to the founders of the Museum. Booth Western Art Museum is operated under the umbrella of Georgia Museums, Inc., which also includes Tellus Science Museum, Bartow History Museum and, coming soon, Savoy Automobile Museum.
Since opening, more than 3/4 million people have visited the Booth. As the buzz surrounding the Booth continues to grow, so does the Museum’s accolades, including being named the 2016 Escape to the Southeast Travel Attraction of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society, 2016 Reader’s Choice “Best Western Museum” in America by True West Magazine, listed among “The South’s Best Museums” by Southern Living, top 10 ranking in “30 Must-See Art Museums In The U.S.” by thecareerartproject.com, and one of “5 U.S. Art Museums to Add to Your Bucket List” by thedailyquirk.com.
The Booth’s permanent collection covers more than a dozen galleries, showcasing legendary artists such as Frederic Remington and Charles Russell to contemporary masters Howard Terpning and Andy Warhol. Unique to the Booth, the Millar Presidential Gallery displays a portrait and original hand-signed letter from each U.S. President, George Washington through Donald Trump. Supplementing the permanent collection are several temporary galleries, hosting 10 to 12 exhibitions per year.
In addition to “Seeing America’s Story” in our galleries, visitors can experience American heritage through several annual events, plus lectures, programing, and exhibition openings. Each February the For the Love of Art Gala Weekend features live and silent art auctions generating funds needed to help support the Museum’s mission. Every March the Southeastern Cowboy Gathering features traditional Cowboy food, music and poetry. October brings the Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium with Native American dancing, gun fight reenactments, art history lectures, a Western marketplace and much more. The museum also welcomes visiting artists and scholars to speak at twice monthly lectures and exhibition openings throughout the year.

Her vibrancy and attention to detail in costuming is integral to translating stories of race, politics, and culture to the big screen. From humble roots in Massachusetts, Carter has helped style the Afrofuturism movement for almost 40 years.

In this exhibition the NCMA displays more than 60 of Carter’s original garments while also showcasing her immersive process, historical research, and the attention to detail that imbues every project she brings to life.

Saturday (4/21/18) Clean Bread and Cheese Creek Community Cleanups had a truly beautiful day to work with over 150 wonderful volunteers along at Bear Creek Park and Shoreline for our Earth Day Cleanup - nearly filling a 40 yard dumpster with trash and debris they removed from this historic stream as well as from Bear Creek Elementary School, General John Stricker Middle School, Charlesmont Elementary School and Charlesmont Park totaling over 4 tons!!! This included 342 bags of trash, 5 tires, three shopping carts, 2 bed frames, a heavy duty dolly, a head board, a plastic 30 gallon drum, a plastic raven statue and more, Thank you everyone so very much for all your hard work! Our volunteer’s dedication to working toward a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment is wonderful sight to behold!!!!
We would also like to thank the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and American Rivers for all their assistance and support on this cleanup and to thank Chick-fil-A Eastpoint, Pat's Pizzeria Dundalk MD, Pizza Hut (Dundalk, MD), Chesapeake Traders Food Warehouse and Mr. Robert Jones for their generous donations of food to feed all our hungry and hardworking volunteers!!! Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White visited the College of DuPage campus April 21 to promote Donate Life month and encourage faculty, staff and students to join the Illinois organ donation registry. During his visit, White visited many of the College's facilities, including the Homeland Security Education Center and newly-renovated Physical Education Center.

Located to the southeast of the intersection of North Spring Valley Road and Kansas State Highway 18, this old schoolhouse was built in 1873. It is a part of the Spring Valley Historic Site.

Newly built, the structure nevertheless conveys the typical Tibetan flair, with monks lingering around the ground and ravens flying over the bell-fitted tiers of the main temple. Perching to the slope at the foot of the temple are the housings of the monks, little cubicles beautifully decorated. Inside the temple there are some beautiful murals depicting the Buddhist way. Behind the temple there is a small cemetery with prayer-flags and white ribbons adorning every bush

Written on September 10, which was the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 (but it occurred in 1813) - hence the new USPS stamp issue that day!!
