An evening of wine tasting, food, and dynamic conversation! Forty years ago, American winemakers surprised a panel of French wine experts (and the world) by placing first in a blind tasting that pitted the new American wines against the best of France.
Join us for a conversation about the legacy of the Judgment of Paris and American wine history from the people who were there and then test your own wine tasting skills and more in an interactive reception. Listen and learn from the experts themselves:
This is from inside the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC. I like this because it uses the "original intent" of a Founding Father to refute the idea that we should live in a nation with laws based on the Founding Fathers' "original intent." (I, too, can be a hypocrite I suppose...except that I cite Jefferson as my prerogative, not because I believe I'm compelled to do so.) I also like this because it suggests that changes to the Constitution should be borne from enlightenment, progress, new truths -- and not from the base, animal fear and single-minded insularity and intolerance that seems to drive most proposals I hear floated about for amending the Constitution.

Squirrels on campus of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) on Thursday April 18th and Friday April 19th, 2019. Taken during my visit to Boston for the Academic Business Library Directors meeting at the Harvard. These are Eastern Grey Squirrels on campus including black color variants. So here is the whole story. We were on a late afternoon tour of MIT and as we got off the bus at 77 Massachusetts Ave in front of Building 7, we were congregating and Jennifer from Georgetown pointed out the squirrels along the building. I only got a few pictures before the tour started. I did not see another one during the tour. But on the bus to our next stop, we were navigating traffic (back on the bus) and I just happened to be sitting on the right side (facing forward) on the bus when I noticed a cavity nest on a tree right at the corner of Memorial Drive and Massachusetts Ave (next to building 1 on the sidewalk). I quickly pulled out my camera and got a few pictures of what looked like juveniles looking out of their nest (that practically was over the street). The pictures from the bus were not that great. So I realized that I had to go back. After our meetings were over at HBS, I went back to MIT and I saw these two juveniles at the tree. One was in the nest (and hovering around it), and the other was learning how to climb the tree. One little one was calling out (maybe for momma) as he or she clung to the tree. It took quite a while - around 30 minutes to get from around 7 feet off the ground to back in the nest. There was also a hawk around (got one picture) - glad there was no meal involved. Seeing the juveniles was fun for sure. I hope momma is OK and around. I only saw squirrels on the big trees off Massachusetts Ave - maybe I will have to come back and explore again. Another day in the world of squirrel tourism!

Tijdens de koude oorlog stegen dagelijks met veel gebrul Amerikaanse straaljagers op van Vliegbasis Soesterberg. The Sound of Freedom noemden omwoners het overweldigende geluid.
