Another shot of the Navy Pier that I hadn't posted. Although the amusement rides weren't operating, give Chicagoans credit for being out on a cold Saturday night instead being parked on the sofa in front of their Tivos.

The first cases of rabies in Bali were reported in 2008. FAO established a technical assistance project with the Government of Indonesia with the aim of supporting national efforts to control the disease on Bali. This was to be achieved by establishing an effective programme to coordinate and facilitate rabies control with government agencies and partner organizations. As a result of the programme, human rabies cases were reduced from eleven per month in 2010 to just one per month the following year. Following a mass vaccination of dogs, there was another major reduction in 2012 and 2013, bringing the number of reported cases down to only one human case in all of 2013. The model developed in Bali is now being modified as appropriate and used in other affected parts of Indonesia to progressively control and eliminate the virus from the entire country.

It is said that the inspiration for this sculpture was the head of James Watt (1736-1819), inventor and maker of steam engines.

The text is attributed to Leonardo da Vinci and appears to assert the superiority of the inventions of Nature over those of Man.

The sculpture was moved from its original location near Tower Bridge, London, to the Design Museum, Kensington, London UK in 2016.

Day two of the Big SEKI Loop involved leaving Granite Lake ,and heading down the Simpson Meadow Trail to some wooded campsites near the Middle Fork of the Kings River. It was another no nonsense day - 21km/13 miles. A moderate push up and then a murderously steep trail down which I later learned from a NPS worker was nicknamed "The Bitch". Despite the descent, it was a pleasant day of clear weather and classic Sierra Views.

Photo taken during Day 2 of my Big Sequoia/Kings Canyon Loop. This was about a 300km/180 mile loop through various trails and off trail rambling in the Sierra Mountains of two National Parks. It included elements of the PCT, High Sierra Trail and John Muir Trail with less crowds.

I am not sure how it took so long, but I finally signed up for the All Access Ship Tour on our recent cruise. Wow - this was fantastic! Our tour guide was Nemo (from the Shore Excursions team) - and he did a great job. I took the tour on Thursday February 21st at 9am (our first of two days at sea on our way home). Here is the description from the cruise planner: "Get a behind-the-scenes look at what we do to create your best vacation ever. Join your friendly guide for an exclusive narrated tour onboard your ship. Start off in the dining room, where you’ll find out what our crew does to get ready for every meal, plus try to set up a table yourself. Do you know where to place the water glass or soup spoon? Walk through the main galley to see how our delicious dishes are prepared, plus take a look at the provision area to see all of the ingredients we need to have on hand — it’s a lot! Then step inside the engine control room, where we monitor the systems used throughout the ship. You’ll also visit the ship’s vast laundry facilities. See where anything from napkins, table cloths and sheets to beach towels and the laundry you request gets cleaned and folded. Plus, you’ll have a chance to stroll the “I-95,” the long corridor in the crew’s area, named after the longest highway on the U.S. east coast. Finish with a real treat – a visit to the Bridge for a tour of the ship’s command center." On board the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas for a 9 Night Southeast Coast & Bahamas Cruise (February 14th through the 23rd, 2019). The itinerary include stops in Charleston (SC), Port Canaveral (FL), Freeport (Grand Bahama Island), Nassau (Bahamas) and Miami (FL) before heading back to Baltimore.

A State of 90's - Lets meet again! 13-03-2010. Elkaar weer ontmoeten deden we zeker deze avond. We hebben het hier over: A state of 90's.

The Temple of Edfu is the best-preserved Ancient Egyptian Temple from the Ptolemaic Dynasty, and is located in the town of Edfu on the West Bank of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. Constructed between 237 BC (under Ptolemy III Euergetes) and 57 BC (under Ptolemy XII Auletes), the temple has a nearly intact pylon in the front, followed by a large Peristyle Hall (courtyard) with intact columns of varying designs, followed by two intact Hypostyle Halls that lead up to the Transverse Hall (Hall of Offerings) and the innermost sanctuary, home to a naos of Nectanebo II, which stands in the middle of a circular corridor surrounded by many small chambers. The complex was constructed during a time of great prosperity in Egypt, and was surrounded by mud brick walls and had a nilometer to measure the level of the Nile. The structure continued in use as a temple until 391, when the persecution of pagans was carried out by Theodosius I, whom favored Christianity over the native pagan religions of the empire’s various provinces. The building was vandalized by these early Christians, whom burned the painted ceiling and destroyed many carved reliefs. Following this, the structure sat empty for centuries, and ended up being buried to a depth of about 40 feet in Nile silt from repeated flooding and sand from the sandstorms that plague the region. By 1798, all that remained above the surface were the tops of the pylon’s two sections, which were excavated by a French Egyptologist starting in 1860, whom demolished the homes of locals that had been built over the ruins.

Blois château, France. One of a series of female saints in the Oratory (once the queen's private chapel). Designed by Michel Dumas in 1858, the windows were painted by Claudius Lavergne in 1859. Each of the saints depicted has a connection to the Medici or Valois family. This somewhat unsaintly figure has me completely beaten. Suggestions please as to the saint represented.

The power-assisted manipulator is suitable for various manufacturing and processing industries, and can handle workpieces and products of various weights and shapes. The fixtures of each manipulator are specially designed and produced according to the specific conditions of the customer. The manipulator can be installed on-line, which not only saves manpower, but also improves production efficiency. While ensuring assembly quality, it also reduces the incidence of accidents.
