The number of buses registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 18,000 - 22,000 vehicles and presumably new buses registered are offset by old buses being retired or sold over the border in China. (Source - The Transport Department, Hong Kong Government)
Bus services in Hong Kong have to be amongst the best of all major cities in the World.
All major Hong Kong Bus Companies invest heavily and are using mainly brand new double decker buses and all of them are testing and introducing single and double decker 100% electric buses and also hydrogen powered buses for future use.

Any Government OWNED and operated vehicle in this section (such as Correctional Services Buses, Police Buses etc ) have a licence plate starting AM and any Chinese Military Vehicle has a licence plate starting ZG and naturally some of these vehicles have personalized licence plates which they buy at Government Auction!

This scarce Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Instructor’s badge would have been issued by the Liverpool City Council and presented along with a numbered certificate upon successful completion of training. During the early years of the war and those preceding it, ARP services were organised by local authorities to serve their own districts. This badge was issued along with certificate number 30 which would have stated what speciality the instructor had been trained in. The badge depicts the mythical Liver Bird holding a sprig of laver (type of edible seaweed) in its beak and which still represents the emblem of Liverpool City.
Like many Home Front WW2 badges, they were affectionately known as ‘Mufti’ which meant they were worn with civilian clothing to show the wearer was doing their bit for the war effort. During its early years, there were often no uniforms for ARP personnel and the badge (along with an armband) served as an insignia of their authority. Although the ARP were active until May 1945, this badge was likely issued anytime during 1940 and 1941. In 1941, all the various Home Front defence forces across Britain were reorganised and renamed as the Civil Defence Services. ARP units continued to operate as such under the umbrella of the Civil Defence Services until they were stood-down in May 1945 and disbanded in 1946. In response to the developing Cold War situation, the ARP were reconstituted in 1948 as part of the newly formed Civil Defence Corps.
The concept of an ARP goes back to the closing years of WW1 with the development of bomber aircraft and the prospect that cities had become venerable to attack from the air. The general belief was that ‘the bomber always gets through’ and a civil defence organisation to prepare and protect people from air attack was devised. In September 1935, the prime minister, Stanley Baldwin, laid the groundwork for an ARP when he authorised the publication of ‘Air Raid Precautions’ and invited local authorities to make preparations to protect people in the event of war. By April 1937, ARP volunteers began to be recruited and within a year over 200,000 had signed up. Volunteers were mainly unpaid and operated part-time.
The roles and functions of ARP personnel were considerable and varied. ARP Wardens operated on a local basis in areas called ‘sectors’ and their local knowledge would be invaluable in assisting with rescue operations. ARP wardens also helped distribute gasmasks and provided instruction in their use, enforced blackouts, helped with the distribution and instruction for installation of Anderson shelters, fire watch, fire fighting and were trained in first aid. In conjunction with local authorities and other civil defence, the ARP oversaw the running and proper use of air raid shelters.

Meet Jas, my Stranger number 80.
I was walking down through the Temple Bar District in Dublin and I met Shelley, my stranger 79. Shelley, from Vancouver in Canada is on holidays with two female friends. While we were taking the two friends, Jas and Stasa, Stranger 81 arrived. Shelley enthusiastically told them about my strangers project They also agreed to participate in my Strangers project as Strangers 80 and 81
Jas is also from Vancouver in Canada. She is celebrating her 40th Birthday and on on holidays with two female friends, Shelley and Stasa. Jas looked years younger. Jas's parents came to Canada from India. Jas was born in Canada.
Jas, Shelley and Stasa had only arrived in Dublin the previous night. They had already visited Rome and London. While in Ireland they will be visiting Dublin and Galway, on the West Coast of Ireland. Then they will be heading back home to Vancouver in Canada.
Jas also works as a Bank Manager in the same Bank as Shelley and also Stasa.
Jas said she likes reading and watching British TV Soaps. She also does Running. She aims to run in a Marathon. She also loves fashion.
We agreed I would send the photos to Shelley to share.
For the photo it was a dry but dull day. I decided to use different background for each of the photos of the three ladies. Of course it was another case of meeting the stranger first and then trying to find a suitable background. I opted to use the street and blur the background.
I also took a group photo of Shelley, Jas and Stasa.

It is unlikely that any of you have visited this historic cemetery because it has been closed to the opening of new graves for close to 150 years and over that period there was a very limited number of new burials. My understanding was that the cemetery had been closed to visitors [except by appointment] since the 1900s.
I had a chat with a very helpful member of staff and he explained that the cemetery was very badly neglected and that a large number of graves had been vandalised but that the restoration staff had been able to restore the majority of them as the gravestones had not been shattered.
However, the anti-social activity has been serious and ongoing. For example I came across the following report dated March 16 2016: “Up to 13 gravestones were vandalised at a cemetery in Dublin in the last week, including that of W.T. Cosgrave. The Trust said. Cosgrave’s gravestone was previously destroyed in October 2014.” [ NOTE: W.T. Cosgrave served as president of the Executive Council of Irish Free State (the first Prime Minister of Ireland].
Another report dated August 14 2015: “Up to 27 monuments at the Goldenbridge cemetery in Dublin have been destroyed in recent days by vandals who knocked over headstones smashing some into pieces.”
Goldenbridge is a 19th century ‘garden’ cemetery. After the passing of the 'Act of Easement of Burial Bills' in 1824 a committee was established to administer the proposed cemetery. The cemetery was purchased in 1828 and the first burial took place on the 15th October of that year.
Last weekend it was reopened and family graves are now available if you wish to be buried there.
There are 4,250 graves in the cemetery of which 498 have been identified as available for purchase at this time. Goldenbridge cemetery has been designated by Glasnevin Trust as a conservation cemetery. In order to preserve the character and ambience of the cemetery, there are rules apply to the type of monument that can be placed on family graves.
