The good old number six. It stopped both in front of our hotel, and very near Lange Erlen, the wonderful little park on the German border that stole my heart. Here it is, coming and going, on Gerbergasse, near Marktplatz. As for the architecture, half of Basel looked like this, an absolute glut of grand old stone buildings with steep roofs pitched against the snow. Not that we saw any in July, but this nifty video may give some idea of the sights (and sounds) of a tram ride on a somewhat more wintery day.
It was an interesting doorway both for the ordinariness and the honest wear and tear. What way of life exists behind this door? Who knew. But ordinary lives live behind all kinds of doors.
6101 numbered 258 going to South Harrow Station but its side blind says 142 via Stanmore. It is a 60 reg VDL DB300 operating from Garston Bus Garage Watford.

Brass address number fixed to an Australian brush fence. I love brush fences as they are so natural, but on the minus side, some dastardly fiends go around lighting them up ... and they catch fire so easily.

From a slide dated December, 1977 - Delaware and Hudson RR Alco PA locomotive number 18 leased to the MBTA for Boston area commuter service. Location not recorded but probably near Route 128 [Now Route 128 is called Interstate 95 but in 1977 it was Route 128]. Probably a little west of Newton and east of the 3 Wellesley stations. The train is funded by the MBTA but is operated by a Boston and Maine crew and is hauling former New Haven RR coaches. The locomotive is leased from the D + H. Note the silver trucks. The railroad was once the Boston and Albany for many years owned by the New York Central. In 1977 freight service was proved by Conrail
After scribbling at Mr Wolf’s for the last few months Tim Miness and I were asked by Mr Wolf himself to illustrate the floor of the, soon to be open, pizza restaurant on the first floor of Number 51 (formerly The Junction), Stokes Croft.
We spent the whole weekend crawling around the floor drawing vintage adverts related to the restaurant and the history of the area and we’re pretty pleased with how it turned out. The first picture is just after we finished the job and the second is after it had been varnished.
I’ll put a few more up when tables are in place and the restaurant is up and running.
