Way back in BF (before forgetfulness) I had the opportunity to visit El Paso, Texas. armed with my trusty railroad data and 35mm camera, I stopped in to UT-El Paso to visit El Paso and Southwestern number One. At the time I didn't really realize its historical significance. It was just another train on the list to photograph...READ ON!!!
El Paso & Southwestern Railroad No. 1 is a 4-4-0 type steam locomotive, preserved in El Paso, Texas. The engine was built in 1857 by Breese, Kneeland, and Company of Jersey City, New Jersey, and is the only locomotive built by that firm still in existence.
Go to the Wiki Link and read the information on it. At one time it was a woodburner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso_%26_Southwestern_Railroad_N...
And from the wiki link go to the slide show or click on it here. webcontent.utep.edu/tour/locomotive/slideshow00.html
Number 17 is punching it deep down field. Always trying new things. I was closing down from a long day of work and had just finished dinner at Buffalo 3 wings. Driving back to my hotel I saw this soccer action going on under the lights and had to give it a go. Pulled out the 70-400mm G and it was just to slow/dark for this night game action. I was not packing the 70-200mm f/2.8 so I went for the 135mm f/1.8 Zeiss. I think they came out ok. Shot in manual mode, AF-C, shutter at 1/250, ISO around 200 @ aperture f/1.8. Diesel locomotive number 1 "Amanda" is seen at Pinesway junction.
Named after GLR owner John Gartell’s daughter, 'Amanda' is a twin-cab 'Bo--Bo' diesel hydraulic locomotive.
Its power is supplied by a Perkins 6354 engine via a two speed direct drive
hydraulic gearbox to both bogies. This locomotive originated from the Southend Pier tramway and was rebuilt in the GLR workshops with a new body to resemble the mainline Crompton class 33/1 diesel electric locomotives, several of which are still in service on heritage lines.

Today a large number of protesters took to the streets of Dublin in response to the unfortunate death of an Indian woman who was refused an abortion. The 31-year-old woman died following a miscarriage at University Hospital Galway.
The story behind my photographs has been well reported by international media including CNN, the BBC World Service, Channel 4 News, Sky News, the Sydney Morning Herald, France 24 and New Delhi Television (to mention but a few).
Zeenews New Delhi: "The death of an Indian dentist in Ireland, whose life could have been saved through an abortion on Thursday sparked outrage in India with political parties terming it as a violation of human rights while her parents demanded an international probe"
Halappanavar's parents demanded an "international probe" and said Irish law on abortion should be changed. "Only following rules, what about humanity? They killed my daughter to save a foetus. Only a mother knows the pain," said Halappanavar's mother, while her father urged the government to act accordingly.
There is another protest scheduled for Wednesday in Dublin.
So having made-over a half-dozen Queen of Hearts dolls into Number One in Star Trek (2009) continuity, I finally laid hands on a Tango from the FAO Schwartz gift set to be made over into Majel Barrett's Number One from "The Cage".
Because of the scary piercing where she had the rose in her teeth, I had to soak the head in boiling water first, to close up the holes. Luckily, after that I only had to touch up her lipstick slightly. I repainted her eyes, and restyled her hair. She's rebodied on a Mistress of Ceremonies body, but as soon as I can get a Pop Life Steffie for her, I'll probably swap, just so she can wear her ring...
Her fashion is a 9" Playmates Pike's shirt, with a collar I made (badly, I'm afraid) from matching fabric. The trousers come from Mistress of Ceremonies, and the boots come from the 1996 Star Trek giftset.
