Knox College students and staff move equipment, as the art department moves into the new Whitcomb Art Center.
A new chapter for Pataphysical Studios started today, as we moved the 'Pataphysical Slot Machine to a new home. Our poetic oracle made its maiden journey to the hilltop ranch of Drs. Canard and Figurine, after six years of art incubation in Dr. Rindbrain’s backyard.
The move went very smoothly, with a fine crew of goggled pataphysicians on hand. It took us about four hours to load, unload and set up the exhibit, on a balmy Saturday afternoon. Getting the electronics connected took about an hour — and we got it all working, with a bit of soldering and ritual incantations.
We celebrated this historic occasion with a shot of absinthe and lots of good cheer. Ubu and the Slot Machine seem to fit right in their new home: a lovely guest room with a private entrance, overlooking an idyllic garden with views of the bay.
We plan to host viewing parties and open studios every few months, so others in our community can get to experience the Slot Machine and its magical wonderboxes. Long live Ubu!

This was one of many posters and other ads designed to lure people out of London to build or buy suburban houses. I love the way the smoke from the factories morphs into trees!
This relates to "The Forsyte Saga", since a central idea, Soames' building of a country mansion in Richmond, 12 miles from London, is actually part of a larger trend that Galsworthy wonders may be starting in the late 1880's.
Move-In Day is the official day for FAU’s residential students to return to campus. The day offers a unique opportunity for students and their families to connect with FAU officials, faculty, staff and student groups who are on hand to help them move into the residence halls.

Once the rear wheel had a tyre put on it became obvious that under full compression the rear guard would foul the box so it has moved to the more traditional position for a Boxer battery.
I'm sitting here listening to the movers pack all of my worldly belongings into neat little boxes so they can make another trip half-way around the world. I've realized over the last week or so that I have a lot of stuff. Some of it useful, some of it sentimental, some of it I just had to have at that moment. I'm not a person who tries to get all wound up around the status symbol of stuff: I don't own an e-reader, I got my iPod about 5 years after everyone else, I don't have a fancy phone, the last gaming system I owned was the original Nintendo. And, I could probably do quite well without all this stuff. But I'm not planning to live the life of a monk who has sworn off the material. Sometimes, it's nice to go into "that" drawer that you don't dare open and see something that you haven't seen in awhile. Mind you, I plan on down-sizing a bit when I un-pack...but I think I'll always be someone with stuff.
Sometimes I'm irrationally sentimental. I rarely have extended family visit me, so how are they going to know that I donated that garage sale ornament they gave me when I was in high school? For awhile, I had about 100 T-shirts because I obtained them from around the world. Luckily, my grandmother quilts and the good majority of them are in a nice patchwork design that I can display. I think I need to take pictures of some of the things that I don't want to get rid of for fear of offending someone. If I don't even remember who I got it from or why it's important, it can safely go. But, if it does have a story, I'll take a picture and write down the story so that some day it doesn't fall into the former category.
I guess I'm rambling now, but I never know what to do with myself when the movers come. I could stand out there and watch their every move, but I trust the Japanese moving companies. I'm hoping that they start clearing the individual rooms so that I can start cleaning. For anyone who knows me, I don't like to be off schedule and I'm about 8 hours behind. But the guys look like they've been working hard all day so I can't get mad at them! Here's to being flexible!
Because, technically, 98% of my stuff is moved and in the room it should be, but... whoa.
That speaker and chair are buried in the back corner.
