Day 132 of Project 365.

Cheap plastic masks close to Shinso-Ji.

The first mask attempt. I did a lot of measuring and math for this, had circumferences and how far from the top of my head my nose was, etc. Turns out I way over-planned the shape and ruined it in the process.

It came out too tight and I cut the eye hole too large. Didn't realize how much the spandex would stretch (more than you would expect). Scrapped it and tried again.

This is a shot from my second visit to the sleep clinic on August 22, 2006. Here's the CPAP mask I wore that night. This is similar to the one I have now. The hose is on a full swivel which helps prevent the mask from getting ripped off as I tossed and turned all night.

Here's a wonderful wood carved Diablo mask. It's more decorative, but with straps it would fit a face, about 9-12 inches. I don't know how old it is, or where it was made, but I believe it's Mexico.

As Hong Kong Coronavirus/COVID-19 surpasses fifty cases in the city so most people don a face mask to protect themselves from the virus. Although there is some debate over the effectiveness of the masks to protect against infection and a citywide shortage of masks still the face covering has become started attire for most people in the city.

Day 2 of 365 days.

I'm really excited to be a part of this group. I joined the 365 project earlier this year and learnt so much about photography, but I ended up falling off the map after a few months. Since I sometimes put in some big days at work, I'm going to cut myself some slack if needed. I can miss up to a week, but if I miss more than 2 weeks . . . I have to start over.

An activist and a hereditary Chief from the 'Namgis First Nation, Dick was also known for his artistic practice rooted in Kwakwaka'wakw culture. During some Kwakwaka'wakw ceremonies, dancers wear ghost masks to perform dramatizations of a visit to the land of the dead. According to Dick, a mask is only "activated" when it is worn during such a dance. Bookwus Ghost Mask was danced by the artist in the opening ceremonies of the Walk for Reconciliation in Vancouver in 2013.
