This demon mask would have been worn during performances involving mythical characters and moral tales. These performances, known as Kolam, were developed in Sri Lanka based on an ancient tradition from India. The cobras represent the dangerous nature of snakes and are intended to inspire fear in the audience.

This mini-drama mask is in my mother's room. She loves the masks even though she is not a theatre person. Although she does not have the comedy mask, she does have both masks tattooed on her thigh. The mask is actually set in plastic!
I bought a beautiful Orchid plant for my mom for St. Patrick's day and looking closer, upside down, it kind of looks like a mask.
This cake was done to help out a decorator doing 110 cupcakes to go with it. Mask supplied by the client and cake done to the clients specs in red black white and gold. I would have liked to have added a bit of the purple from the design to compliment the mask a bit. Gosh I hope she likes it, the gold lettering on the red background was a bit of a task and took me twohours.
A lot of the "summer" of 2008 here has been soggy and grey. I was attracted to this leaf by the way the limited daylight reflected from the water drops. When I adjusted my viewpoint, it looked a bit more sinister than I had realized. Turned it to B&W to emphasize the contrast. The light levels were dire.

Wednesdays at the Carnevale di Venezia tend to be slow days. I didn't know of any group shoots so I took a relaxing morning and just wandered around Venice, soaking in the charm and history. After lunch I went to the Piazza di San Marco and San Zaccaria. I ended up shooting with some models but my body was happy to have a slow day.
I took these photos at the 2019 Carnevale di Venezia in February 2019.

Black mask, my first attempt at a mask ala Joel Cooper. It is too bad he does not post instructions, because this mask really did not turn out the way I wanted. Oh well, still kind of neat.
