"British beef steak with red wine gravy and long Clawson stilton in lovely pastry"

In addition, I had minty peas and mashed potatoes along with more gravy. This was quite good and I would definitely eat this again.

Strip steak topped with bleu cheese and sauteed onions and mushrooms, carrot raisin salad, potato salad with bacon, garlic mashed potatoes, and home-grown lettuce with herbs.

It's winter, it's cold and this beef stew with mashed potatoes was perfect. So perfect that I'll probably make it a couple more times before warm weather arrives.

I found the recipe for this on Pinterest a while ago and rediscovered it in my pins last week when I was planning future meals: katieatthekitchendoor.com/2012/10/17/cookbook-review-and-...

Well, here am I again, trying out Fresh Express ready-to-go meals.

Two pieces of breaded and baked salmon, two mounds of mashed potatoes, some broccoli and tomatoes. Pretty good but I really think salmon just isn't my fish. I'm not in to too fishy fish :)

Mom had a sandwich, to be uploaded later. Sandwiches are better because the bread balances out the too salmon.

Asparagus close-up.

This was my dinner from the Wedding: Roasted Chicken with Sauteed Onions, Steamed Asparagus, and Mashed Potatoes.

I couldn't eat the potatoes for obvious reasons, :P but the chicken, onions and asparagus were very, very good! ^o^

The other dinner choices were steak (I don't eat red meat) and some sort of eggplant pasta roll (that had a tons of cheese in it) so I went with the chicken, thankfully.

I'm feeling proud tonight...

Believe it or not with all of my culinary adventures, turkey cooking, roasts and whatnot I have, in fact never cooked a whole chicken.

Growing up it was seriously all we ever ate, my Mom would joke that we would grow wings, then I was a vegetarian forever, and now I cook so big, I just never do, but 12lbs worth of 2 chickens was more than enough and it was delicious!

I kept it simple and slow roasted it with just S&P and a little butter and olive oil on top, and stuffed the cavity with fresh orange, rosemary and onion. I made a simple pan gravy and it was fabulous! We all enjoyed our dinner very much.

I like Ikea's meatballs and gravy. And mashed potatoes. And lingonberries. I'm still not sure what a lingonberry looks like in its natural habitat. Time for wiki

I'm pretty sure this was the second dish I ever learned how to cook (*,**). I'm also pretty sure I mastered it by age 5 or 6. Hot dogs with mashed potatoes and cheese melted under the broiler (***,****). It is traditionally accompanied by canned corn, but alas, this meal is also known as "I forgot to go to the grocery store this weekend (*****)."

* the first being Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

** "cook" is a relative term here

*** the parsley is optional, the pinwheel layout is not

**** as a nod to adulthood, those are reduced fat hot dogs, mashed potatoes sans milk or cream, and slices of unpasturized whole milk cheddar -- I'm not saying it's highly nutritious, but it sure is tasty

***** which is perfectly OK, as this counts as a yellow meal all by itself

After a long walk in the badlands I'm hungry and don't feel like cooking very much, but do want something nutritous and healthy. So, I choose Banquet Salisbury Steak TV dinners!

This year didn’t feel like Thanksgiving. Not because I was alone...I have been celebrating alone for the last few years. I don’t mind it. It just didn’t feel “happy”. Probably a mixture of how crappy this year has been, and also the fact that today was so warm and blah. I started getting hot while making dinner and had to turn a fan on and open the windows....just not right on Thanksgiving.

I still made a feast fit for a king, though...all from the comfort of my little room.

A Gardein turkey roast, which I simply thawed and deep fried the heck out of. Macaroni and cheese. Mashed potatoes. “Green bean casserole” (just a can of green beans I had, some condensed cauliflower soup, topped with some crunchy fried onions). Some corn. Yams with marshmallows. Hawaiian sweet rolls. Stuffing made with vegan sausage (which I also just deep fried. Don’t judge me...it’s fast, easy and tastes good). Knorr vegetable spinach dip with Ritz crackers (I always have to have that). Cranberry sauce....and sparkling apple/grape juice.

I had “Planes Trains and Automobiles” playing in the background while I made dinner, then popped on “Dutch” while I had my feast.

It could have been been worse, I suppose.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable day, or at the very least, meal.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

I had to work late tonight so my wife sent me a chicken fried chicken Banquet frozen dinner.

Leftovers from Thanksgiving make the BEST burritos. Forget turkey sandwiches, try this!

Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and a little Asadero cheese in these burritos.

It didn't look nearly as realistic as the photo on the menu.

The "Training Platter" from Leroy Selmon's (A three meat combo consisting of Hall of Fame Ribs, Soul -Good Pulled Pork and Backyard BBQ Chicken) with a side of bacon and cheese grits and a side of "smashed" potatoes. $19.99

Tender pork tenderloin served over a bed of red pepper mashed potatoes accompanied and layered with grilled eggplant and sautéed peppers a drizzle of a soy sauce reduction and deep fried caramelized carrot strips is the finishing touch.

Venison chop with yukon gold potatoes and carrots. This is what Allison ordered. I only tried the carrots which were really good.

The real version. Blogged by Aaron, my farm intern.

This meat is from the first sheep we slaughtered and butchered ourselves. (Ourselves = Frank and Aaron plus I helped wrap meat) Usually we send them to a butcher but we wanted to guarantee a humane ending and the only way to do that is to DIY. It is also the oldest one we've done. Usually we only do lambs but this wether was four years old. People the world 'round eat mutton but we had never tasted it before. Our verdict -- yummy.

With lamb stock that I'd made earlier in the year, veggies and potatoes from the garden ... as local as it gets. When I whipped the mashed potatoes, I used milk from Ella Mae that was still warm.

Movie # 13

So this one is surprisingly good. Adorable Carla Gugino kidnaps her niece & nephew to keep them out of the foster care system that she was raised in when their mother is imprisoned. They end up stranded & broke in a town called Bethlehem, but luckily good ol' Lynn Redgrave is around to be the Santa and make everything alright.

I made some really tasty mashed potatoes that I worked on for longer than this entire movie. I overboiled them by around 30 minutes and then left them in the hot water for awhile and then forgot them in the mixer before they were mashed for 20 minutes or so and then eventually mashed them. They are the best damn mashed potatoes ever! I now dub these the Miracle Potatoes.

I guess for my experience, the mixer could be the Santa character who came around to fix things even though I, the bitter, sad character in need of some Christmas attitude adjustment, tried so hard to ignore the joys of the holiday potatoes. I'll have to go see if I can find a cute little Santa hat for my mixer now.
