The only dinner dish not in the picture is the kale lasagna Sara W convinced me to try, which I had to get on a second round. With a second veggie corn dog.

Last August, we camped for a week at the Tahoe Valley Campground in South Lake Tahoe. Unlike past camping trips, photography was the focus instead of cooking. I only posted one recipe during the week on my blog (http://roundthechuckbox.blogspot.com/).
My favorite sandwich at Maverick's. You can get fries, onion rings, potato wedges, but I got mashed potatoes and gravy.
This sandwich joint is Roseville is THE BEST. Go there now!

After cooking it, and munching here and there all day, I do not know what prompted me to load my plate so full. I ate almost half of it, then finished it later of course! We ate early, 1pm-ish, then napped, then ate again around 6...hehe

we feasted - a very homey meal, something reminiscent of days gone by.
i made the mashed potatoes on the fly once i saw the final meat dish and knew only one side dish was suitable to sop up that luscious sauce!
the carrots are sauteed in butter and olive oil until tender then finished with a generous spoonful of honey and fresh rosemary. i picked this idea up on epicurious last winter and find it quite satisfying - great with parsnips too!
the collard greens are my speciality - a recipe i've adapted over the years from mark bittman's How to Cook Everything. if you've had traditionally prepared greens with the hamhock and musty flavor these are the exact opposite - spicy, tangy, delicious. tons of crushed garlic and red pepper flakes go into these along with white wine, lemon juice and tabasco.

I had mashed potatoes and corn. It just sounded good. I used "Yukon Butter Gold" potatoes, which make kick ass mashed potatoes.
This is my dinner at Paula Deen's Restaurant.........The Lady and Sons..........in Savannah, GA. We ate from the buffet because all of the food there is from her original recipes when she started cooking. It was melt in your mouth delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonights dinner was comfort food at it's best, whole Roasted Chicken, which I can't seem to stop making, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots and onions roated in the pan with the chicken and petite asparagus that I did in the oven with S&P and some olive oil...SO GOOD!!!
Silly to take a picture of mashed potatoes, but I don't think I've never had mashed taters with a swirl design like cake frosting.
Trader Vic's has changed their menu, and I am very disappointed. There are hardly any "lunch"-type choices (e.g., sandwiches and smaller offerings) and the prices have increased substantially. The best bet now is a 3-course prix fixe menu for $19 - one of the cheapest items on the new menu (seriously!). It looks like we will need to find a new place to eat after the dentist's visits.
