When it's cold out, I got the month of May.

When you have a holiday on a different date than the real date, you can call that the Shark-holiday. Like Sharksgiving, or, in our case, Sharksmas. What, you didn't know that?

Anyway, we had some delicious fall squash and greens soup, mashed potatoes and celery root, salad, and pork loin with a garlic rosemary crust. Delicious!

蛋捲 (起司, 蘑菇擇一), 焗馬鈴薯泥, 脆培根, 油醋沙拉與土司或法國麵包 (cheese omelette served with mashed potato, “crispy” bacon, salad and baguette, NT$200) at MEOWVELOUS CAFÉ {貓下去CAFÉ}, 台北市中正區徐州路38號, 02-2322-2364

Inspired by the mouthwatering pics featured on foodinmouth's blog, we decided to try out the fried chicken in this joint. It looks like a take-out place, but is actually a sit-down restaurant with a real menu.

We got the 5 pc order which comes with 3 Md. sides and 2 biscuits for $13.95. The wait was at least 15-20 minutes, but well worth it!!! The chicken was amazingly moist, tender and you can definitely taste the olive oil in the lightly battered skin. It also has a slight kick...probably from pepper. The biscuits, on the other hand, are a waste of calories. Don't bother eating these tasteless lumps of flour!

These side dishes were mediocre. They were also out of the Spicy Creamed Corn that I wanted to try. =(

It's what's for dinner.

One can hardly ever go wrong with this combination.

I'm grateful for the wonderful folks who welcomed me into their home for Thanksgiving -- and filled my belly & heart.

Jake's Famous Crawfish

Stuffed Salmon (with crawfish and bay shrimp) $28

Ah, the #2 stop of the "over-hyped, over-price, yet incredibly mediocre" restaurant of the trip. I must admit, the meal started great. The sourdough bread was good, the steamed mussels in white wine garlic sauce was excellent. Then came the clam chowder, which was just another cup of clam chowder, completely boring. When I was choosing the entree I really couldn't decide, I normally don't get fish in a western restaurant since I think asians know how to cook fish better, but I was in the pacific northwest, salmon seemed a must. The waitress recommended the stuffed salmon, said that it was the most popular dish, so I said ok (not realizing that this dish was $28, or I would've never ordered this). Well, this was pretty foul. The salmon was incredibly fishy, the stuffing was entirely too heavy on an already heavy fish. Ugh, the more I think about how much I paid for it the more angry I get. And look at the plate, how ugly is this thing for $28?

BTW, I don't have any photos from the #3 of the "over-hyped, over-price, yet incredibly mediocre" restaurant , but it was Typhoon in portland, a Thai restaurant. We went there mainly because it was 2 blocks from the hotel, and I had difficulty walking as I had severe back pain. Let's just say that I have had better thai food from a dirty take out place in LA with 1/2 of the price tag.

Whatever it is, it's big. It reminds me of the pile of mashed potatoes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Do you think there are aliens under all that canvas?

“I eat leftovers with mash potatoes

No more candlelight, no more romance

No more small talk when the hunger stops”

I'm eating like this a lot lately. I think this is Calico Sea Bass I caught in Mexico, asparagus and garlicy creamy mashed potatoes with the skins in there.

Braised Ham with garlic-herbs de Provence mashed potatoes and redcurrants compote.

She didn't *Dutch it Up*!!

or maybe she did????

ms.sad is equally a pro at the sewing machine and at the stove!!!

She fell in love with Stamppot while visiting the NL for the first time back in 2004/5. A friend gave her a Dutch cookbook last year and she finally decided to attempt this hearty Dutch dish while the weather was still chilly here in Sizzattle!

Of course, ms.sad put her own *stamp* on the stamppot and added Garlic and Celery (to optimize the flavor). You can't blame her for that-- she's Italian!!!

Maybe one day, if you're really nice, she might make you a special stamppot ;)

The best thing about Thanksgiving? You got it, LEFTOVERS! Clockwise from bottom: delicious smoked turkey from City BBQ, corn pudding, also from City BBQ, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes (why yes, they are real, and spectacular!) and homemade gravy (made from homemade turkey stock).

Utilizing Thanksgiving leftovers is never dull at our house. Bolobilly created this pizza using numerous Thanksgiving leftovers; I think it is the best pizza I have ever eaten! Next on the menu is Turkey Green Chili - yum.
